Commitment & Family

Mass – Y6

Our Lady of the Cape Primary School is a community where each child is

valued as an individual and nurtured spiritually, by many hearts working

together as one voice to fulfil their overall potential.

Many Hearts, One Voice 16 June 2017

My thanks to our most professional and committed teachers and leadership team members for

accepting this extra leadership and teaching responsibility. This will ensure that all of our school

improvement plans and efforts will continue in my absence.

Casuals for Catholic Care

I received a letter of thanks from Bishop Holohan recently thanking us for the $339 we raised to

help those in need in the Bunbury Diocese. Thanks to all families for your generosity.

Working with Children Clearance for Family Camp

A letter was emailed to all families recently regarding the legal requirement for all adults attending

the Family Camp to obtain and provide a WWC clearance. The letter outlined the background

to this requirement along with what we have in place to assist families. If you did not receive the

email, please contact Fran. The Family Camp will be organised early next term. Thanks again to

Catri Jones, Jordie Rock and Leanne Verhoeff for their leadership with the camp, and to Ben

Huxtable, Gary Hodge and Eloise Jennings for their help with the Working With Children

organisation.

OLC Parent Satisfaction Survey.

All families should have received an email via SEQTA on Wednesday asking them to participate in

a five minute survey. We are required to publish the results of this survey on the school website by

the 30th June as part of the funding agreement with the Commonwealth Government.

To facilitate this, we would like the survey completed and submitted by next Wednesday 21st June.

I would like as many families as possible to complete the survey so we have valid and

representative data available to guide our future School Improvement Plans. We have checked

the returns and we had 74 families respond by lunch time Thursday. Another outstanding response.

School Promotions

Please check out the Coles Boards I mentioned last week. They are in place in the shopping

centre and present most professionally. Thanks again to all who helped with this.

We have produced “Why Choose Our Lady of the Cape for Your Child and Your Family?”

brochures and these are available from the display, along with a Little Seedlings flyer. I have

included the Why OLC brochure as an attachment to the newsletter for our families. We have

only focussed on a few of the outstanding features of our school, but this will help everyone in our

community to promote our school with some specific information.

Busselton City to Surf Fun Run – 13th August 2017 The school is organising a team for the Chevron City to Surf in Busselton for Activ on Sunday 13

August. Not only is this a great event to participate in either running or walking but this year we

are attempting to win the team with the most registrations. Everyone in the school community is

encouraged to participate including mums with prams grandparents, friends, walkers and runners.

The entire school community is encouraged to sign up – teachers, parents, friends and family. Each

entry adds to our final school team tally so start getting the word out! The team with the most

entrants wins a Wildcats Training Clinic and $1000 toward our school sport or recreation program.

Click on this link below to go through to the OLC team and choose what category you want to

participate in. On payment, please use the code SHCLB0021 to gain a 15% discount off your

registration fees and to help us win the prize.

My thanks to Mrs Sinclair and Lauren Bidesi for doing all the work to set up this opportunity for

everyone. Mrs Sinclair will provide a school cross country shirt (funded by the P&F last year) for all

students. More information will follow closer to the event. The event will be conducted on the 13th

August: Please contact Lauren on 0418 950 049 or [email protected] for any queries.

Kitchen Garden Busy Bee

Our busy bee team of Dave, James, the Mikes, Amanda, Sherylee, Lisa and Robyn laid some

carpet for “grass” management and we plan to tackle each of the big veggie beds one at a

time during “busy bees”. A HUGE thanks to Mitre 10 for the “No Frills” and seedlings ALL donated!

We are now really on track with the “Stephanie Alexander” planting program to supply our

children and wider community with produce.

Canteen is to be supported with herbs going forward. We are planning before assembly

“markets” to sell some produce. Thanks to the Mike’s for the lemon tree pruning which has

inspired the first “market” where we will have lemon curd and fermented lemonade to sell on

Friday 30th June.

School Disco – Friday 23rd June

Plans are in place for another enjoyable disco for all students, thanks to the efforts of our very able

parent volunteers; Leanne Verhoeff, Lauren Bidesi and Nicole Vernon.

We are publishing a flyer with all the details attached to this newsletter.

Faction Cross Country

Our faction cross country will happen next Thursday, 22nd June. See Mandy Sinclair’s note in the

newsletter for further details.

To assist with parking this year, I have asked all staff to park in the lower gravel car park as we have

to close this off for safety once the event commences. With this change in place, the parking

area beside the new classroom and the upper carpark will be available for parents

(approximately 30 extra spaces). Please do not park on the school side of Sloan Drive or in front

of our northern neighbours.

Grandparents Day

Please refer to the flyer in this newsletter. As a grandparent, I now fully understand how special

these days are. Please ensure you send in your RSVP ASAP with information on how many will be

attending. I look forward to welcoming everyone to the Prayer Service at 9.00am. My thanks in

anticipation of the class reps organising some plates of morning tea for the event.

Kind Regards and God Bless,

Des Wilkie

OLC CATHOLIC COMMUNITY CORNER PRAYER ASSEMBLY

Mr. Jones’ Year Three class reminded us of the power of forgiveness with their prayer assembly this

morning. They shared with us the story of Zaccheus, who was a man who knew that he had

cheated people. Zaccheus invited Jesus to his house, and he confessed and said that he was sorry

for what he had done. He said to Jesus, "I am going to give

half of all that I own to the poor, and if I have cheated

anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the

amount."

Because Zacchaeus was sorry for what he had done and

confessed his sin, Jesus forgave him. Yes, Zacchaeus was a

little man with a big problem -- sin! But he met Jesus and his

life was changed. It doesn't matter if you are short or tall,

when you meet Jesus, he will change your life too.

Our Father, when we meet Jesus it is a life-changing experience. Thank you for your love and

forgiveness. Amen.

GRANDPARENTS DAY

We are looking forward to celebrating the gift of our

Grandparents during our Grandparents Day in Week 10. Please

look out for information from your class representatives, and

return your RSVP as soon as possible for catering purposes.

ST VINNIES DRIVE – “GIVE A CAN IF YOU CAN”

Our local St Vincent De Paul Society regularly puts together food hampers for those people of

Dunsborough who may be struggling to make ends meet. Many of us are fortunate to be blessed in

our daily lives and it is important that we consider those less fortunate, and take action to show

compassion. To this end I will be placing a box in the front office and will be asking for donations of

non-perishable food items that we can donate to the Vinnies. So next time you are at the shop,

maybe grab an extra can or packet of something and drop it off to the box. All donations will be

most gratefully received. Thank you!

Mrs Amie Meyer, OLC Religious Education Coordinator.

Cross Country

This year’s Cross Country will be held on Thursday 16th June.

Children are to wear their faction coloured T-shirts and bring along

coloured decorations (teddies, banners etc). They can wear coloured

zinc, but must not colour their whole face, as this can get very messy!

I encourage you all to attend if possible. We will begin (with the Year 1’s to

6’s) at 9.15am and it will conclude before recess. I do ask if you can stay

to watch all the races and the presentations, as it is very disheartening for

the older children when there are only a couple of parents left! This

carnival is very short anyway.

Thanks for your ongoing support,

Mandy Sinclair

School Garden Market Stall

Thank you for supporting our Market stall today. We raised over $50!

Our next stall will be on Friday 30th June. We will have lemon curd, probiotic lemonade,

hot buttered lemonade and lemon cordial for sale!

If anyone has some eggs to donate, please contact Robyn Cross, or drop in at the school office.

Also we need some jam jars. If you have any lying around, can you please also drop off at the

office. Thanks for your support.
