PARISH MEMBERSHIP
Welcome! Every Catholic should be registered in the Parish. Letters of testimony for Godparents and Sponsors cannot be given unless one is registered. All
parishioners should be active in parish life and be known to one of the Parish Priests. Stewardship (church support) is a serious responsibility of every Catholic. We urge all parishioners to make regular use of their collection envelopes. When moving,
notify the Parish office.
OUR LADY OF SORROWS MISSION STATEMENT We are Catholic Christians of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish who are conscious of the
plan of God for the salvation of all. We praise the Lord in our everyday lives by sharing our faith and talents with each other for the continued growth of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Community. We wish to live the Beatitudes of Jesus and put them
into practice in our daily lives as we answer His call to evangelization.
Discovering Christ What is Discovering Christ? Discovering Christ is a seven-week spiritual renewal program where members of a par-ish can bring their family, friends, or other guests to hear the Good News and personally encounter Jesus Christ in life-changing ways. Each session includes a meal, a brief time of worship, a teaching, and a small group discussion. The high point of the program is a day retreat (held at Our Lady of Sorrows) where participants have the opportunity to make a personal commitment to Christ and be renewed in the Holy Spirit. We began to form our team in February and continue to meet in preparation for our Discovering Christ program. We are excited about this program and are happy that many of our parishioners have volunteered to be a part of this effort. We could use a few additional volunteers to help as this program includes a dinner, small group discus-sions, speakers, etc. However, more importantly, we need your attendance to ensure a successful outcome. This is a great opportunity to meet and connect to your fellow pa-rishioners; to get to know your names and not just your faces. We greet each other at Mass but wouldn’t it be much nicer to be able to speak your name when greeting you? We are beginning to accept registrations so we can better prepare for the number of people attending. Registration forms and Invite cards are available in the vestibule and side entrances of the church. Please take one and consider joining us. Use the invite cards to give to a friend or some-one you might know who has been away from church for a while. They don’t have to be a parishioner as all are wel-come. Best of all, the program is free!! Registration forms should be submitted by September 18th.
“Did God not choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?” (JAMES 2:5) What is more important—being rich in faith or rich in pos-sessions? Society teaches us that possessions are im-portant. God teaches a different lesson. When we are rich in faith we know that material things really do not matter and we are more willing to share what we have.
The office will be closed tomorrow, Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.
Parish Council News
We are pleased to announce the launching of our official website: www.olskearny.org We truly appreciate the many hours of work Maureen and her husband, Andy spent creating this significant contribution to our parish, and thank them for donating their time and talent to create the website.
The launching of our website now brings us into the 21st century! Our website has a picture of our church, direc-tions in the form of a Google map, staff information, up-coming events, sacraments, religious education and bulle-tins, current and archived. Please visit our new website and Like us on Facebook. www.facebook.com/pages/Our-Lady-of-Sorrows-Catholic-Church-Kearny-NJ/683783938387608 Our Facebook page shows the Church & profile photo of the Blessed Virgin.
In the future, any organization planning an event should contact Maureen so she can add it to our website. Pictures pertaining to an event may also be submitted. Our goal is to let people know who we are and where they can find us.
Fr. Paul Parekkattil V.C. and all the Vincentian Missionaries thank you for your prayers and generous mission offering last weekend. Your offerings will help them to carry out their many missionary, education-al and charitable activities in their missions
and will help them educate young men studying for priest-hood. If you did not have an opportunity to make an offer-ing or would like to make an additional offering you may make your offering through the general parish collection in a specially marked envelope. Thank you very much for your generous support. If you wish to sponsor a seminari-an and help him to become a priest, you may write to:
