Our Mission — Nuestra Misión
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, has been serving the com-munity of South Ozone Park and beyond since 1923. We are a diverse multi-ethnic Catholic community in a neighborhood of people of many faiths. We are called in Baptism to proclaim the presence of Christ in Word and are nourished with the Body and Blood of Christ in Communion. We follow Jesus Christ proclaiming him to parish and neighborhood; and we use our gifts and talents to serve others.
La parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro ha estado sirviendo a la gente de South Ozone Park y los alrededores desde 1923. Somos una comunidad Católica diversa y muti-étnica en un barrio con gente de diferentes religiones. Estamos llamados por medio del Bautismo a proclamar la presencia de Cristo por medio de su Palabra y nos nutrimos con el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo en la Comunión. Call the Rectory to make an appointment with the pastor. The child’s birth certificate must be provided. Attendance at the baptismal class is required for parents and godparents. Any parishioner unable to attend Mass due to illness or old age, should contact the Rectory and arrange for a priest or extraordinary minister to bring them Holy Communion. As part of the Diocesan Mission Cooperative Plan, a Salesian Sister of St. John Bosco will speak at our Parish on the weekend of June 19-20, 2021 on behalf of their foreign mission ministries. They will be ask-ing for your help in support of their works throughout the world. (The Salesian Sisters was founded by St. John Bosco in 1872). Their congregation was specifi-cally founded for the service of poor youth, conse-quently, most of their ministries will have an educa-tional thrust. They are grateful for the opportunity of sharing their mission work here at Our Lady of Per-petual Help and of benefitting from you generosity. Thank you and let’s keep our youth in our prayers.

Commentary on the Readings for Sunday, June 13, 2021. 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
The First Reading is from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel (17:22-24). In this passage, the Prophet, is speaking for God, uses the metaphor of a tree branch for the renewal of faith in the Jewish people near the end of the Babylonian Exile (6th century BC). The tender shoot, which represents the fragile Judaism, comes from the “topmost branches” that only God could reach. When he plants this shoot, it will eventually grow into a mighty tree that “shall put forth and bear fruit.” however, we must recognize that it will take time and nourishment for all of this to happen, and it did. The Responsorial Psalm (92:2-3,13-16) is a prayer medi-tating on the development of one’s fait over time. It men-tions giving thanks, singing praises, proclaiming kindness and other acts of faith and devotion that are the nourish-ment our faith needs to grow. It ends with the realization and declaration of how good is the Lord, which recognizes that we are the seeding and God is the planter. The Second Reading is from St. Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthi-ans (5:6-10). In this letter, Paul is telling the Corinthians (and us today) that it takes courage to be a true and pro-ductive Catholic/Christian, and that we must “walk by faith and not by sight” to fulfill what God is asking of us. We cannot expect to be granted the gift of faith without follow-ing through with what God, though Jesus Christ, is asking of us, and our fulfilling whatever that might be. Again, faith and salvation are not a “one-time thing.” They are a con-tinuous process until we “appear before the judgement seat of Christ.”
The Gospel Reading for this Sunday is from Mark (4:26-34). In these two brief parables, Jesus sums up what we have discussed above, as well as other writers: that the Kingdom of God (which is another way of saying sincere faith and/salvation) begins like a tiny seed planted within our heart that takes hold of the nourishment surrounding it and begins to grow; slowly at first, but with continuous at-tention, it will grow faster and stronger and finally bear fruit as intended.
The essence of all of the above readings is to make us aware that we cannot sit back and say, “I have been saved and therefore, I need not do anything more.” As we have said here many times, “Our faith, like our life, is a gift from God. What we do with it is our gift to Him.”

Greetings to all; With the availability of vaccines for everyone 12 years and older, New York State COVID 19 positivity rate being about 1% presently, and the new CDC guidance on wearing of masks and social gathering, it seems like we will soon be adjusting to our new normal. Our Council is collabo-rating with our Pastor Rev. Thomas Ahern for when it is pos-sible to have in-persons meetings in the lower Church. In the meantime, our council-OLPH/Msgr. Flynn will be conducting the following activities within the parish:
BLOOD DRIVE Knights of Columbus OLPH/Msgr. Flynn Council along with New York Blood Center will be conduct-ing a Blood Drive in the Lower Church on July 11, 2021 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Due to covid 19 appointments are strongly encouraged. Walk-ins will be allowed only if social distancing can be maintained. Please contact Tony Harilall at 347-879-3714 to schedule an appointment.
*KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS-RECRUITMENT DRIVE ; We, the members of OLPH/Msgr. Flynn Council # 17153 would like to offer you the opportunity to join us in our work for God and neighbor.
