It attracted over 1000 educators world-wide and provided cutting edge information on classroom improvement, student achievement and teacher motivation. Workshops included standards approach, differentiation, leadership, strategies and plenty more. We hope to implement this gained knowledge over the year ahead. Back home, over the last fortnight Year 12 completed their final HSC exams and now the rest of Secondary embark on their exams as do Primary. I ask parents to make sure their students are getting into good study habits over the following weeks. Primary Library Books - All borrowing will end for 2013 on Friday 15th November (Week 6). Please ensure all library books are returned ASAP. Lebanon Independence Day: Friday 22nd November The College will be celebrating this important day with an Arabic presentation, K-6 Open Classrooms and a Parent Association BBQ and Mufti day. The agenda for the day is as follows: 10:35-11:15 Infants BBQ (Parents’ Association) 11:20- 12:40 Celebration Activities Presentation Primary playground K-6:

Mrs Farah will MC the event and present the story of Independence. Presentations will include a K-2 song; 3-4 song; poem from Year 5 and a Year 5 song Followed by Open classrooms: students will engage in an activity which focuses on Lebanon.

These will be drawn from a variety of Key Learning Areas. 12:40-1:20 Primary BBQ (Parent’s Association) The PA will be distributing a note which will include a pre-pay return slip. The last day for money collection will be Fri 15th Nov. Mufti Day money raised will be used to fund purchases for the Christmas Raffle. Secondary will also be involved in the day celebrating with Lebanese food and music. Bush Fire Appeal - Thank you to all the generous parents and students who contributed to our Bush Fire Appeal, the SRC and Ms Roumanus made a donation of $1546.35 on behalf of the College. Claymation Day Preparations - Students in Years 5 and 6 prepared for their Claymation experience by developing scripts and sets for their videos.

From the Careers Advisor’s Desk Yr 10 Work Experience (21-27 Nov) - Many thanks to those parents of Yr 10 students who have supported this programme by organising host employers. This programme is back on-board and students are thrilled that they can be out there working, gaining workplace experiences. Employers will also have the opportunity to complete an appraisal of each student, which will become a worthy source of future references. Good Luck Year 10! Yr 9 Personal Tax-File Number application - Current we are inviting all Yr 9 students to apply for their Personal Tax-File number using a special arrangement that the College has reached with the ATO. Through the same programme Yr 10 students who are still without a Tax-File number are also encouraged to do it too. For identification purposes, students are to bring home their application forms to complete one section using either their Australian Birth Certificate, or their Foreign Passport details if they were born overseas. Thanking you in advance for your support of this programme - Mr P Tuaileva, Careers Adviser Last month our Yrs 7,8 & 9 students began to read for 2014 Premier’s Reading Challenge - The home plays a vital role in supporting the College’s reading and writing programs. Research shows that children who are immersed in a language and literature rich environment are likely to achieve at a higher level in all areas than those who aren’t. Kids who read, succeed! Please encourage your child to borrow books from the library and buy books from Book Club magazines which are distributed to students twice during school term. Please take the time to look through the brochures with your child and consider the books that are appropriate for your child's reading level and interests – Ms O Korkor Team OLOL consisting of Mrs Macura, Ms Sarlog , Mrs J Botros, Ms Pietak and Mr Khattar, entered ‘The Bloody Long Walk’ of 35km on Sunday 3rd Nov to support Australians living with

mitochondrial disease - It was a walk from Palm Beach to North Head near Manly. The walk involved hills, steps, bushland and beaches. Lots of beautiful scenery and amazing expensive mansions with incredible ocean views. We made it and raised over $850 for Mitochondrial disease, which is a truly good cause. A big thank you to all those on staff who sponsored us - Ms Macura End of year Secondary concert is fast approaching - With fairy face painting, a visit from Santa and many entertaining performances, it should NOT be missed. Tickets are on sale now from Miss Georgette. $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Dinner dance fundraiser – thanks to all those who attended or supported our 40 year dinner dance which raised $28,085. The money will go towards paying for the new playground pictured below with Sr Constance doing her inspection! Chemistry students from Yrs 11 & 12 and two Yr 10 students participated in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz - They answered 30 questions in one hour on a wide range of questions, competing against students from all around Australia and from Asian and European countries. Of the nine Year 12 students to take part, one achieved a distinction and three achieved a credit. Two Year 11 students achieved distinctions as well. There was one credit from Year 10. Congratulations to George Chammoun (Yr

12), Stephanie Hatem (Yr 11) and Paul Youssef (Yr 11) for their distinctions and Odette Feghali, Nastashia Sleiman and George Sourenian (Yr 12) and Yvonne Moussa (Yr 10) for their credits – Mr A Stillen

PARENTS’ NEWS Accessing Church and Youth Centre Services - Primary students who are accessing the Church and Youth Centre after school, must be taken there by their parents. Students making their way to these facilities without parental supervision are not the responsibility of the College and any incidences that may occur will be the responsibility of parents. The Parent Association is providing a Barbeque lunch for all students celebrating Lebanon Independence Day on 22nd November. If any parent would like to help, please contact Katerina Najim Ph:0430046977. The PA requires donations for prizes for the annual College Christmas Raffle. If anyone would like to donate please contact Katerina. St Vinnies Christmas hampers appeal - please bring in canned food and non-perishable items. So far we have had many generous donations.
