BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO FOLLOW THE LAW OF THE LORD

This Sunday’s readings call us to the true beauty and depth of life that God offers. Until we pattern our lives to respond to God’s love, forgiveness and mercy, “law” is only perceived as limiting and negative. Once we view the law through the lens of God’s infi-nite love for humanity and our covenant with God in and through Christ, we see the law for what it truly is: the framework for a life pointed toward unity with God for all eternity, and a gift that leads to a life of integrity and blessing.

BENDITOS AQUELLOS QUE SIGUEN LA LEY DEL SEÑOR

Las lecturas de este domingo nos llaman a la verdadera belleza y la vida profunda que Dios nos ofrece. Hasta que amoldemos nuestras vidas para responder al amor de Dios, al perdón y a la misericordia, “la ley” se percibe solamente como limitada y nega-tiva. Una vez que veamos la ley a través del lente del amor infinito de Dios por la humanidad, y nuestra alianza con Dios en y a través de Cristo, vemos la ley cual realmente es: el marco para una vida dirigida a la unidad con Dios para toda la eternidad y un regalo que lleva a una vida de integridad y bendición.

Los cónyuges deben reconocerse uno a otro como un don de Dios en sus vidas. El matrimonio es "una escuela para nutrir la gratitud por los dones de Dios y por la apertura a los dones de Dios que son propios del matrimonio", como la inti-midad sexual y los hijos (USCCB, Matrimonio: Amor y Vida en el Plan Divino, p. 50). A través del sendero de la vida, en ocasiones un esposo o esposa necesita reflexionar sobre el don del otro, especialmente cuando surgen malentendidos o dificultades. Spouses should recognize each other as God’s gift in their lives. Marriage is “a school for nurturing gratitude for the gifts of God and for openness to the gifts of God that are proper to marriage,” such as sexual intimacy and children (USCCB, Marriage: Love and Life in the Divine Plan, p. 50). Through life’s journey, sometimes a husband or wife may

need to reflect on the gift of the other, especially when mis-understandings or difficulties arise. To remember how this person came to offer love so unexpectedly or how one rec-ognized the other as “made for you” is to be humbled by the divine gift you have received. In those moments of remembering, thankfulness should fill one’s heart. Spousal gratitude is linked to conjugal char-ity. It will help husband and wife to persevere in fidelity, kindness, communication, and mutual assistance. “In the joys of their love and family life, he [Jesus] gives them [spouses] here on earth a foretaste of the wedding feast of the Lamb,” (Pope Francis, Amoris Laetitia, no. 73)

Stewardship involves more than just the gift we bring to the altar. Today’s read-ings say clearly that it is fidelity to God’s law that makes our offering acceptable.

Los Mandamientos de Dios conforman un estilo de vida. Sexto Domingo en el Tiempo Ordinario Semana del 12 de febrero del 2017 Escucha la Palabra (Mateo 5:17 — 37) Cuando oyen la palabra mandamiento, ¿qué sienten? ¿Qué quiso decir Jesús cuando dijo que no habia venido a abolir sino a cumplir la ley y los profetas? Ve tu vida Pregunta para los niños: ¿Qué reglas presentan más difi-cultades para ustedes? ¿Por qué? Pregunta para los jóvenes: En sus propias palabras, describan lo que es el espíritu de la ley de Dios. Pregunta para los adultos: ¿Han considerado que las leyes se han hecho con amor? ¿Aceptan el amor de Dios por medio de sus leyes? Actividades de la semana Tomen estas actividades para reflexionar más: Comenten lo que podría significar la obediencia radical.

¿Qué se requiere para la obediencia radical? ¿Cómo po-demos ser radicales al practicar nuestra obediencia? Luego, pidan que cada persona diga como él o ella podría practicar específicamente la obediencia de una manera radical.

What did Jesus mean when he said he did not come to abol-ish but to fulfill the law and the prophets? Look into your life Question for children: Which rules cause you the most difficulty? Why? Question for youth: In your own words, describe what the spirit of God’s law is. Question for adults: Have you considered that laws are made with love? Do you accept God’s love through his laws? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: Discuss what radical obedience might mean. What does

obedience require? How can one be radical in practicing obedience? Then have each person relate how he/she might specifically practice obedience in a radical man-ner.

Sirach lived in a culture that did not support his religious values. Do your family members feel supported in reli-gious values by today’s culture? How or how not? What is the solution? How can values be upheld when the culture opposes them? How does the domestic Church, or the family, support its members?

Make a plan for supporting each other in times of oppo-sition to the culture.

“Instruct me, O Lord, in the way of your statutes, that I may exactly observe them. El Venerable Pierre Toussaint nació esclavo en Haití. El fue un filántropo y fundador de muchas obras de caridad Católicas. Como esclavo, el Venerable Pierre Tous-saint fue traído de Haití a Nueva York y aprendio con un peluquero popular en la ciudad. Eventualmente se convirtió en el peluquero más buscado de las mujeres de la alta sociedad. Tras la muerte de su amo, ganó su libertad y tuvo mucho éxito como uno de los primeros empresa-rios de color del país. Se convirtió en una gran riqueza, pero en lugar de

Venerable Pierre Toussaint was born a slave in Haiti. He was a philanthropist and founder of many Catholic charitable works. As a slave, Venerable Pierre Toussaint was brought from Haiti to New York and apprenticed under a popular hairstyl-ist in the city. He eventually became the most sought after hairdresser of high society women. Upon the death of his master, he gained his freedom and was very successful as one of the country’s first black entrepre-neurs. He became quite wealth, but instead of spending lavishly on himself, he support-ed the Church and the poor. He and his wife shel-tered orphans, refugees and other street people in their home. He founded one of New York’s first or-phanages and raised money for the city’s first cathe-dral. Even during yellow fever epidemics, Toussaint would risk his life to help others by nursing the sick and praying with the dying. “I have never felt I am a slave to any man or woman but I am a servant of Almighty God who made us all. When one of his children is in need, I am glad to be his slave.”

La celebración comienza a las 7:00pm en el Santuario de la Par-roquia. Si necesitas transporte, la van de la iglesia puede pasar por tí.
