Our Lady of Hope This Week

PREACH THE GOSPEL AND PRACTICE IT

A good leader is not self-seeking, but always has the best interests of his followers at heart. A poor leader thinks only of himself and what he has to gain from his position of authority. Leaders have the power to guide their followers to destruction of prosperity. Jesus is the model servant-leader, humbling Himself and serving all.

    2017 FAITH Catholic-Publishing and Communications

    LITURGY OF THE WORD

In the first reading, God sternly warns the priests that their behavior is leading His people astray, and that they must change their ways or risk His wrath. The second reading finds Saint Paul giving thanks that the people to whom he preached have taken the word of God to heart and put it into practice. In the Gospel, Jesus warns the people not to follow their earthly leaders down the path to destruction, but instead to lead lives of humble service to one another.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

“The greatest among you will be the one who serves the rest,” Jesus says in today’s Gospel. What wonderful good news for those who give of their time in service of others!

    A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR

Beginning today, November 5 through November 11, the Church in America will observe National Vocation Awareness Week. Did you know that in our country there are 20,000 fewer priests and 130,000 fewer religious sisters than there were in the 1970’s? At the same time, the Catholic popula-tions has continued to grow steadily. During Voca-tion Awareness Week, please pray that young peo-ple in today’s society will hear and respond to God’s call to the priesthood and religious life. Thank you for your prayers!

Our second collection this weekend will be the special Catholic Ministries Appeal Collection con-ducted in all parishes in our Diocese. Because we have met our goal, a significant portion of this spe-cial collection will be rebated to our parish. Thank you for your generosity!

ALTAR BREAD, ROSE FOR LIFE & SANCTUARY CANDLE

If you wish to donate the bread and wine for the week’s Sunday and daily Eucharist celebrations, the offering is $50. Opportunities to donate a Rose for Life are also available. The offering is $5 per week. The sanctuary candle is available for memo-rialization. The offering is $15.

**The office will be closed on Friday, November 10 in observance of Veteran’s Day.**
