Dear God, Thank you for our lives and giving us the opportunity to reflect on our actions. Thank you for your love and all the blessings that you’ve given to us. Forgive us for sinning and our selfishness this Lenten season and help us renew our faith. Amen (prayer by Sahana Hariharan, gr. 8) Dear OLG Families, $31,643.55 = Crab Feed 2019 net profit! Congratulations to the Crab Feed Committee Chairs, all our families for their hard work, donations and expenditures, and our teachers for fabulous projects, and so many friends! This is the most we’ve made in years! Way to go, OLG families! Our theme for Crab Feed 2020 is Mardi Gras! Start planning your costumes, folks. More Good News Summer Session 2019 will be open to PreK through incoming sixth graders. It will run from June 17-July 12, with July 4-5 as holidays (a 4-day, 4 th of July weekend); from 7am – 6pm. Last year was the first time we offered an all day summer session and it was so successful that we’re bringing it back, better than ever. More information will be posted in next week’s bulletin. Thank you to our returning Summer Session Principal, Mrs. Shannon Bellison, for making this happen! When the School Board developed the Strategic Plan a few years ago, one of our goals was to establish a Spanish program at OLG. This past trimester, we have run a pilot PreK Spanish program. In the 2019-2020 school year, we will be incorporating a Spanish program from grades PreK-5! We plan to grow the program into the 6 th -7 th - 8 th grades in the next three years. Meanwhile, this trimester we are starting a Robotics unit in the 6 th ,7 th , and 8 th grades and it will continue to grow into the 2019-2020 school year and beyond. Thank you to all those whose vision and support are making it possible for us to grow our programming while we focus on our students becoming the best they have been created to be. Looking Ahead… While there’s growth and change, life also brings challenges. We are facing the challenge of hiring for the positions of 8 th grade and 7 th grade teachers and a part-time Spanish teacher. After 14 years of incredible dedication to our junior high math/science program and 8 th grade activities, our beloved Mrs. Kim Hughes will be leaving us. God has given her the opportunity to continue sharing her teaching gifts at a school within 5 minutes of her home. No more wondering if the Sunol road is open after the night’s downpour or needing to contact me as she sits in traffic on 680. No more rushing home in traffic in an effort to make it to her child’s concert or to a teacher-parent conference. We will miss you very much, Mrs. Hughes, but I know you will hand over all the curriculum plans and 8 th grade activity plans and…and…and we’ll see you at the Diocesan Science Fair where OLG science students will continue to shine! Though she has only been with us one year, Mrs. Amber Cunningham who is ‘with child’, her second baby, has endeared herself to her students and colleagues. Her flexibility and openness to teaching our 7 th graders, teaching art in the junior high and teaching digital citizenship throughout the grades, has been a gift to all of us. Get ready for OLG's second annual Tech for Life Week! This year we will be exploring all things tech the week of April 1. If you work in the tech industry, or use technology as a primary part of your job, we would like to invite you to come talk about it with our junior high students on Wednesday, April 3. You will be sharing how you use technology in your job, how the technology has changed your job, how to get into your field, etc. Sharing will occur within 30 minute rotations, from either 8:30-10:30 or 11-12:30. If you're interested, please email Ms. Harmuth at [email protected] We look forward to hearing from you!

Best of Parents Press The Best of Parents' Press was born with the idea to give readers throughout the Bay Area a chance to voice their opinions on their personal "Best" choices for everything kids and family. The program has evolved over the years, and hopefully, with a lot of input from our readers, we've been able to make it better and better. The voting for Best of Parents' Press is conducted in a two-round process. The first round occurs in the month of March with open write-in nominations taking place. In addition, to open write-ins, selected past winners are also listed to make selecting them easier. As more and more nominations come in, the most written-in

entities become automatically selectable and listed among the past winners. This makes it easier and easier for people to cast their nominations. And write-in nominations continue to be open until the end of the month. As the nomination period in the first round comes to a close at the end of March, shortly after, the second round opens with the top nominees in each category being selectable in this final round of voting during the month of April. Write-in nominations are no longer available, and voters are open to select their favorite from among those that are listed. The final winners are posted in the July issue of Parents' Press Copy & Paste Link to Vote: http://parentspress.com/best-of-parents-press-alameda-county.html#//
