OUR HISTORY

St. Xavier’s College was established at Palayamkottai in 1923 by Jesuit

Fathers of the Jesuit Madurai Province with an aim of preparing generations

of students for a happy, healthy and harmonious life. It is a grant-in-aid

institution recognized by the UGC Act under sections 2(f) and 12(B). The

College is affiliated to the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. In

recognition of its service and excellence, the College was granted autonomy

in 1987. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)

accredited the College at Five Star Level in 2000 and re-accredited at “A”

Grade in 2006 and 2012 with a CGPA of 3.50. The UGC awarded the status of

“College with Potential for Excellence” to our college in 2004 and again in

2010 and 2014. STAR College scheme has been awarded by DBT,

Government of India (2014 -2017).

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Students can apply from the online (www.stxavierstn.edu.in).

The cost of an application is as follows:

1. All U.G. Courses : Rs. 55/-

2. All P.G. Courses : Rs. 65/-

3. M.C.A. Course : Rs. 100/-

Candidates of all gender can apply for all the UG, PG, MCA, MBA and M.PHIL., courses of

both Shift-I (Aided) and Shift-II (Self-Financing). Our college is basically a men’s college. As

per Govt. rule 30% of women students will be admitted in Shift-I (Aided).

After filling up all the necessary details, students should take the printout of the filled-in

application and the same should be submitted to the College Office either in person or by

post, addressed to The Principal, St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai – 627 002,

immediately after the publication of +2 results. The mark statements downloaded from the

internet should be attested by a Gazetted Officer.

All filled-in applications should reach the College Office within 10 working days from the

date of the issuing of the +2 mark statement.

The list of provisionally selected candidates will be published on the college notice board.

The candidates will have to appear for a personal interview along with their parents. If any

candidate fails to appear for the interview at the notified time, the provisional selection will

automatically get cancelled. After the interview, the eligible candidates must be prepared to

pay the fee immediately.

Photocopies of the following certificates must be enclosed along with application form.

1. QUALIFYING EXAMINATION MARK SHEET (HSC).

2. COMMUNITY CERTIFICATE (BC / BCM / MBC / DNC / SC / ST /SCA).

3. A LETTER FROM THE PARISH PRIEST FOR ROMAN CATHOLICS.

4. CERTIFICATE OF PROOF FOR DIFFERENTLY ABLED: PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED /

SPORTS / NCC / NSS / EX. SERVICEMAN ETC.

All the Original Certificates along with TRANSFER CERTIFICATE should be produced at the

time of interview.

NOTE:

“Admission is subject to verification of mark certificates by the Director of Government

Examinations and if the mark certificate is found to be bogus, admission is liable for

cancellation besides criminal action being taken.”

The incomplete applications and the applications received after the deadline will be

rejected.

B.Sc. VISUAL COMMUNICATION has great potential for employment and self-

employment. Students with artistic talents and interest in media and other

communication-related fields will benefit a lot by this degree course.

M.A. FOLKLORE is a postgraduate course which has a two-tier structure with Folkloristics

and Media Studies along with practical components. Folklore, which is defined as artistic

communication in a small group, never confines itself within the boundaries of traditional

contexts, but travels across different domains of traditional and popular channels of

communication including print, radio, film, television and other electronic modes. This

course will facilitate the students to have a clear understanding on folklore and culture,

and it will also help them to emerge as trained media specialists with human concern.

MSW – MASTER IN SOCIAL WORK is a popular course as its job potential both in Govt.

Sectors and in the Corporate / Voluntary Sectors is a known fact. Students are given the

choice to Specialize in “Community Development (CD)’’ or ‘’Personnel Management

(PM)’’. Students with CD/PM specialization are in big demand in the voluntary sectors and

in Human Resource (HR) Departments of companies. Eligibility:

Students of any UG degree with 55% Marks are eligible to apply for MSW For Personnel Management,

students should have 60% Marks.

MCA - MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS was started with AICTE norms in the year

2000. It started functioning as a separate department as per the AICTE recommendation

from the year 2001. It has a well equipped separate computer lab with internet and 4

servers, 75 cilent systems, 6 demo systems, 5 projectors and printers. A separate seminar

hall and a library with 4000 books have been crucial in the holistic development of our

students. We strongly believe in Industry-Institute Interactions. Several of our students

have been placed in various MNCs through campus interview.

Eligibility:

Pass in Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration with Mathematics at 10, +2 level or at Graduate level

and obtained atleast 50% (45% in the case of candidate belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying

degree examinations. (10 + 2 years H. Sc. +3 (or) + 4 Years bachelor’s degree pattern (or) 10 +3 Years

diploma +3 years bachelor’s degree pattern).

XIBA - XAVIER INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION: XIBA was started in August

2012 as Department of Master of Business Administration, (M.B.A.) affiliated to

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and approved by AICTE.

Duration of MBA programme : Two years.

The curriculum has been updated and diversified under the Choice Based Credit System

(CBCS) with a variety of choices to the learners according to their aptitude and competence.

CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The College offers Co-curricular and Extra-curricular programmes such as, N.C.C., N.S.S.,

A.I.C.U.F., St. Vincent de Paul Society (S.V.P.), Democracy Forum, Enviro Club, Consumer’s

Club, Youth Red Ribbon Club(YRRC), ect. Students will have to join any one of these

programmes during their undergraduate studies. Four credits are allotted to N.C.C. as per

the University norms.

EXTENSION PROGRAMME

All the second year UG and first year PG students have to participate in the Student Training

and Action for Neighbourhood Development (STAND) Extension Programme, which is an

integral part of the curriculum in St. Xavier’s College.

PLACEMENT CELL

A committee under the chairmanship of the Principal of the College has been constituted to

monitor, supervise and conduct programmes to realize the objectives of the cell. This is a

forum which helps students set their goals to choose a better career in life.

COLLEGE LIBRARY

In order to help our students, to develop their reading habit and improve their knowledge in

various fields, the library has a comprehensive collections of books and journals for all the

departments. At present, the total volume in the library has crossed 1.20 lakh including the

back volumes of 4375.

INTERNET CENTRE

A separate Internet Centre with 45 computers provides internet service to the students.

They can download study materials from the internet and copy it on CDs. The internet

Centre is kept open on all days.

LANGUAGE LAB

The College has a Language Lab, which consists of 65 computers with cable box RJ45

connector DVD Rom drive and headphones attached to the computers. Students can

develop their communication skills and make use of the facilities in the Language Lab.

STATE BANK OF INDIA, ST.XAVIER’S COLLEGE BRANCH

The State Bank of India is operating a branch within the campus exclusively for the benefit

of the staff and students of St. Xavier’s college. The working time of the bank is from 10.00

a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and on the first and third Saturdays from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Students

can open an account in their names in the bank and learn to make use of the banking

facilities.

COUNSELLING

There are one full time counsellor and two part-time counsellors for the students. They are

available during working days as well as holidays.

PARENTS MEETING

The college believes in establishing a healthy relationship with parents of the students

studying in our college. The Parents meeting makes the college management, the teachers

and the parents to work for the healthy growth of the students and let the parents

articulate their expectations. Every year two meetings are organized at the time of

distribution of mark statements.

GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP

After admission into the college students belonging to different communities (SC, ST, BC,

MBC / DNC) are asked to apply for various Govt. Scholarships through college office.

MANAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

The management gives scholarship to deserving Dalit and other poor students. After

studying the socio - economic and cultural background of the students this scholarship will

be given to deserving students.

SHORT TERM COURSES FOR LIFE LONG PROGRESS

ARRUPE ACADEMY OF VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (AAVE) St. Xavier’s College offers Diploma /

Certificate courses to promote interest in college students and general public to master

different skills which will shape their future.

Considering the growing needs of the society, the college has from time to time introduced

new courses which are sought after by the student community.

With no doubt the college has been doing a great service to the people of the region.

However, parents employers and the general public feel that students, who come out of the

college, in addition to the degree, must have some Diploma / Certificate courses which will

enhance their special skills. Government encourages every student to do add-on-courses

before leaving the College.

These courses are designed to provide technical skills and academic knowledge to the

students in their area of interest.

OUR HOSTELS

FOR BOYS

XAVIER HOSTEL, situated in the College campus, accommodates only male students who need hostel

accommodation. After getting admission in the College, students must approach the Director, Xavier

Hostel for hostel accommodation.

FOR GIRLS

Mother Teresa Women’s Hostel, constructed by the College at a cost of Rs.2.25 Crore, admits girl

students of shift I and shift II. Other women students will be given accommodation in Sharon Hostel

which is run by St. John's College.

TO THE KIND ATTENTION OF STUDENTS AND PARENTS

i) Smoking and use of tobacco are strictly forbidden in the

College & Hostel premises.

ii) The use of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited. Any student

found using or having used drinks, drugs or any other

intoxicants will be summarily dismissed from the college.

iii) Ragging in any form is a serious offence and those indulging in

it will be summarily dismissed.

iv) Students who

(i) Are guilty of rude language towards the staff of the college

or hostels,

(ii) Assault or attempt to assault staff or fellow students of the

college or hostels will be severely dealt with as per the

educational rules of the Tamil Nadu Government (1978). If

proved guilty, he / she will be dismissed from the college.

v) Possession or use of Camera cell-Phone / Ordinary cell-Phone

is strictly prohibited in the Campus.

vi) Regular attendance at all classes is insisted upon in this

college.

PLEASE NOTE

Asking, receiving and giving bribe for admission is an offence. Complaints about bribe for admission should be brought to the notice of the Principal immediately.
