2. CO2 emissions from fossil fuelburning power plants.- Electricity from coal burningpower plants releasestremendous amounts of CO2into the atmosphere,40% of theUnited States carbon dioxideemissions come from electricityproduction and burning coalaccounts for 93% of emissionsfrom the electric utility industry. CO2 emissions from burning gasfor transportation.-Cars are responsible for 33% ofemissions in the United Statesalone. It is the chief greenhouse gasthat results from humanactivities and causes globalwarming and climate change. The concentration ofatmospheric CO2 has increasedby about 35% since thebeginning of the industrialrevolution. CO2 can alsocontribute to acid rain. 3. Forests remove andstore CO2 from theatmosphere. Deforestationreleases largeamounts of carbon. Reduces the amountof carbon capturedand thereforedecreases the amountof oxygen producedby the trees duringphotosynthesis. 4. The increase in sealevels is due to themelting of twomassive ice sheets inAntarctica andGreenland, especially on theEast Coast of the U.S 5. Wind speeds of tropical stormshave detrimentally increasedsince 1981. Some evidence suggests that thehurricane season has beengetting longer for years. Hurricane Katrina was oneexample of killer storms. Katrinawas a category 5 hurricane, thesurface temperature of the Gulfof Mexico were one to twodegrees Celsius warmer than thenorm. 6. The rising temperaturescan lead to theextinction of over amillion species that areessential to the foodchain. Humans can not existwithout a diversepopulation of specieson Earth. 7. Plastic breaks downinto edible pieces butis non-biodegradableso it gets eaten andfills the stomach ofanimals, mainly smallsea creatures. Landfills emitpollution into theirsurroundingenvironment. The trash vortex inthe Pacific Ocean is ahuge issue. 8. Alternative Forms of Energy Solar power- Converts sunlight into energy. Wind turbines-Converts kinetic energy from thewind. Hydro-power systems-Derived from the power of fallingwater. 9. Instead of throwing yourcan or bottle out of the carwindow throw it in arecycling bin. Take old cardboard boxes torecycling dumpsters. Thesedumpsters can be found atACTC. 10. Get a compact car. They dont consume asmuch gas as a SUV, ortrucks. Investing in alternativefuel ideas. 11. If everyone would pitch in and reduce, reuse, andrecycle we might have a chance at saving ourwondrous planet. 12. Music by Radiohead-Bloom
