Our ClubCricket has been played in and around Millhouses Park for over 150 years. Millhouses Works CC was formed through the merger in 2009 of Millhouses CC (who have been in existence since 1860) and Sheffield Works Department CC (a club based in the inner suburbs of Sheffield for over 30 years). The Club has gone from strength to strength in the last 3 years and now boasts a membership of over 280 members and their families.

The Club has a thriving junior section, with over 150 juniors registered with us. The Club’s Junior Co-Ordinator and our dedicated team of qualified coaches and volunteers encourage young people from the age of 7 to learn the game and compete against their peers at U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 levels in the Ben Jessop Junior Cricket League across South Yorkshire. Many of our young people have graduated to our senior teams and some have gone on to represent the Club at City and District level.

The Yorkshire Cricket Board (YCB) has recently re-accredited the Club with the Sport England “Clubmark” – confirming the Club as being a beacon for junior cricket development with an excellent standard of administration, organisation and child welfare. The YCB has also recognised the Club as a ‘Focus Club’ and, by working in partnership with local schools and community groups, we are able to promote sporting activity through cricket in the centre and south-west of Sheffield.

Millhouses Works CC was hand-picked by the ECB to help deliver their ‘Chance to Shine’ scheme in primary and secondary schools in the inner-city and south-west of Sheffield for the last 4 years and has provided coaching to hundreds of children of all ages, ability, and backgrounds through its Hit 4 Six scheme.

On the field, 3 senior teams play across the week in two leagues covering South Yorkshire. The Club’s 1st and 2nd XIs play in the prestigious South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League – the 1st XI gained promotion in only their second year of the competition to highly competitive division one which boasts professional players from around the county as well as overseas players! We are proud to say all of our players are amateurs so all sponsorship money is spent on developing the club. We also play in the Alliance Midweek Cricket League. All our teams, supported by qualified umpires and scorers, offer a wide range of cricket opportunities to players of all levels. We are especially keen to encourage our young players to gain experience at the senior level of the game by proceeding though our player pathway.

We are run entirely by volunteers, one of which has been recognised nationally by being awarded the Natwest Outstanding Services to Cricket Award at a ceremony at Lords.

Some of our facilities are getting a bit tired and are in urgent need for refurbishment. Working in partnership with the YCB, ECB, Sport England and Sheffield City Council, plus other business and community partners, we aim to rebuild and extend the Millhouses Park pavilion building, improve the outfield and pitches and have a facility that not only befits an ambitious community cricket club but is also attractive for our visiting teams and other user groups in the community.
