The church which is the ‘new creation’ {2 Cor 5:17} lives as the body of Christ in a fallen and

broken world giving glory to God. Thereby being obedient to Jesus’ command in John 13:34,35.

καταρτιζω [ katartizō ], to mend ( Matt. 4:21 ; Gal. 6:1 ). “For the mending (repair) of the saints. Here it is translated ‘equipping’.

So, what is the church?

The church is not a civic center, not a social center, nor a encounter group or a Sunday

morning meeting place, it is not for entertainment or excitement, nor a rallying

point to change legislation.

It is the Body of which Jesus Christ is the head. It is the family of the “Twice-Born.”

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God… Rm 12:1

Urge is from “παρακαλω [ parakalō ] has the basic meaning of calling alongside in order to help or give aid.

Brethren— it is plural!

The call is WORSHIP.

By the mercies of God…we…

Are beloved of God 1:7;5:5

Have received grace. 3:24; 5:2

We have salvation 1:16

He extends his great kindness towards those he saves. 2:4; 11:22

Forgiveness & Propitiation of our sins 3:25; 4:7,8, also freedom from them. 6:18, 7:6

Reconciliation with Him 5:10

By the mercies of God…we…

Have received justification 2:13, 3:4

Are being conformed to His Son 8:29

Will be glorified 8:30Have sonship 8:14-17

Have the Holy Spirit who indwells us 8:9,11

Who intercedes for us 8:26, and through whom God has poured out His love 5:5

By the mercies of God…we…

Have peace 1:7; 2:10; 5:1 Hope 5:2,20,24

Therefore

Is this not the most compelling motivation for a love response to live in a manner worthy!
