…with the introduction of the second-generation OM 471 engine.The new, second-generation OM 471 engine delivers both improved driving dynamics and better fuel efficiency. It is 3% more fuel-efficient than the previous generation of OM 471 which over 130,000km (at an average consumption of 9.9mpg) saves 1100 litres of fuel and three tonnes of CO2 per year. The OM 471 achieves this thanks to:

1. The improved X-Pulse injection system with new eight nozzle injectors and higher injection pressure which is more reliable, requires less energy and maximises exhaust gas quality while reducing particulate emissions.

2. A brand new fixed geometry Asymmetric Turbocharger that has been specifically developed and manufactured in-house for the second-generation OM 471.

3. A reshaped piston bowl, which contributes to increased compression ratios, shifting the best consumption figures to lower engine speeds.

4. A new, repositioned EGR Valve that allows infinite adjustment and precise control of exhaust gas distribution improving both fuel consumption and driving dynamics.

A combination of these features allows a longer standard rear axle ratio that reduces engine speed by 3%.
