    Super Powers...

I always secretly hoped that I was really a super hero! I loved movies like Star Wars, where the main character finds out that he or she is some sort of "chosen one" who has super powers. I'm pretty sure this is not the case for me (pretty sure...) but now I watch my son wish and hope for the same thing. It seems to be a natural desire hidden deep within each one of us, that we are special. Each one of us longs to be unique, important, and in some way more than average. This opportunity, to be something more, to be special, to have power is exact-ly what Jesus offered his disciples when he instructed them to remain in Jeru-salem until they were "baptized with the Holy Spirit". The Pentecost story is the fulfillment of that promise and while remarkable and truly miraculous, the event marks the beginning of something even more amazing, the church! For over 2,000 years, people have been discovering, rediscovering and being transformed by the simple and yet powerful good news of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. So do you have super powers? Will God's Holy Spirit fall afresh upon this place, fill and empower each one of us and through us do something amazing? Join us today and find out for yourself.

    Lectionary Readings

...the living core of the Christian faith is revealed in scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.

...the one God we worship exists fundamentally within a community of the three per-sons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Gods son, Jesus, came to live among us as fully divine and fully human. His life, death, and resurrection points to and fulfills the good news of the freedom from sin and death, which we proclaim.

...we share one mission with Christians throughout time, to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

...it is into community (koinonia) that we have been called to coexist and through this community that we are able to truly manifest the body of Christ.

wherever you are on your journey, we are here for one another! In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity.

You must take care of yourself!

As a nurse I have probably said this at least a hundred times! I now know how inadequate these words are. When you become a care giver the most important thing in your life is caring for the one you love. At that time your whole life changes. Its hard to leave this person in the hands of someone else.

Do they really know how to care for this person? Will they make sure their medications are correct? Will they see that they eat the right foods? Will they be safe getting up? What if something happens while Im gone and Im not there? What if my loved one wants to tell me some-thing important and Im not there to hear it? What if they have a really good moment and Im, not there to share it?

It is important to have help from others for both you and your loved one. Share that help! That help comes in many forms: a card; telephone calls; meals and transportation; visits; praying and sharing your feelings with God. The list goes on and on.

I will continue to tell care givers to take time for yourself, but I will un-derstand their reluctance, and if they dont follow my advice, I will try to assist them as they request.

To all of you I say thank you. Im not good at following my own advice and everything that has been done for Guy and me has been greatly appreciated.

    Reduce Your Skin Cancer Risk:

    1. Seek the shade, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM when the sun is strongest.

    2. Do not burn. A persons risk for melanoma dou-bles if he or she has had five or more sunburns at any point in life.

    3. Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths. UV radiation from tanning machines is known to cause cancer in humans, and the more time a person has spent tanning indoors, the higher the risk. Those who make just four visits to a tanning salon per year can increase their risk for melanoma by 11 percent, and their risk for the two most common forms of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, by 15 percent.

    4. Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sun-glasses. Clothing can be your most effective form of sun protection, so make the most of it with densely woven and bright-or dark-colored fabrics, which offer the best defense. The more skin you cover, the better.

    5. Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

    6. Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.

    7. Keep newborns out of the sun. Sunscreens may be used on babies over the age of six months, but they should also be protected by shade and clothing. Children are very sensitive to ultraviolet radiation just one severe sunburn in childhood doubles the chances of developing melanoma later in life.

    8. Examine your skin head-to-toe every month. If you notice any change in an existing mole or discover a new one that looks suspicious, see a physician imme-diately.

    Dont forget your little ones!

During the entire month of May in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness month, and in connection with the compa-nys Save a Babys Skin Campaign, UV Skinz will include a FREE My First Skinz Whats a Sunburn? UPF 50+ Baby Sun Shirt (size 12/24 mo) with EVERY order placed. In addition to the free baby sun shirt, UV Skinz is offering MOPS moms an exclusive discount of 20% off with coupon code 20DARLING.
