    Case Studies

    The case method is an instructional strategy that engagesstudents in active discussion about issues and problems inherent

    in practical application. It can highlight fundamental dilemmas orcritical issues and provide a format for role playing ambiguous orcontroversial scenarios.

    MAIN PURPOSE:

    - To enhance the analytic thinking of the students, by means of applying old and newknowledge and their critical thinking.

    PREPARATION:

    - case must be clearly defined in some cases- case study must be prepared

    STRENGTHS:(ADVANTAGES)\

    - develops analytic and problem solving skills

    - allows for exploration of solutions for complex issues- allows student to apply old and new knowledge and skills

    LIMITATIONS:(DISADVANTAGES)

    - people may not see relevance to own situation- insufficient information can lead to inappropriate results

    INTENDED USE

    - science based activity or topics- after acquisition of the basic information of the topic

    - for secondary and tertiary level

    Panel Forum/Round Table Conference

    Panel forum is an interactive discussion consisting of a group of 4 or 8, presenting aspecific topic to be discussed in front of the audience.

    MAIN PURPOSE

    - To present different view from the members of the group and the same timewith the audience.

    PREPARATIONS

    - Presentation of the topic by a group of 4 or 8 pupils, and a chairman beforean audience

    - After the presentation, questions and clarifications can be raised by the otherstudents against the panel.

    - At the end of the discussion, the chairman summarizes and comes up with anintegrated conclusion based on the opinions and the fact that are considered.

    ADVANTAGES

    - Goes beyond the lecture, entails the experiences of the pupils

    - Promotes student-to-student interaction

    - Enhances unity and cooperation among the panel group

    - Frequent changes of speaker keeps attention from lagging

    DISADVANTAGES- If the groups information about the topic lacks

    - It takes a lot more time

    - If not facilitated appropriately by the teacher it may lead to a quarrel

    - Experts may not be a good speaker

    INTENDED USE

    - Solving a specific problem or a concept that a single individual cannotaccomplished

    - Topic may or may not be a subjective based

    - For secondary or tertiary levels
