Avenue Road, O- ta-huhuThe East West Connections programme, a joint Auckland Transport and NZ Transport Agency project, focuses on the areas between Onehunga, East Tamaki and Auckland.This programme includes the implementation of FN32 – a frequent network route for the new south Auckland public transport network that will run between Ma-ngere, O

-ta-huhu and Sylvia Park.

As part of this route, the existing O-

ta-huhu town centre bus station will be replaced by the new train and bus interchange that is currently under construction adjacent to Walmsley Road.

To serve bus passengers in the town centre, new bus stops will be created on either side of Avenue Road, to allow 4 bus operations in each direction.

These new stops will include a large bus shelter in what is currently the entrance to the O

-ta-huhu bus station, and multiple shelters on

the opposite side of Avenue Road.

As part of this upgrade, new Exeloo toilets will be installed to replace the existing toilets, and a redesigned canopy will cover the head of the bus stop.

What happens next?Avenue Road will be upgraded as the new bus stops are provided. The quality of the street will be enhanced consistent with the section of Mason Road, adjacent to Great South Road, which was completed in 2015. The footpaths will be widened with new surfaces and new street lights, seats, bins and planting provided.

Later this year we will begin planning the streetscape upgrade of Great South Road, Mason Ave and Station Road and we will want to talk to you!
