Our Oswegatchie School Learning community is a safe,
engaging and positive environment where we are respect-
ful, responsible, and kind.
Dear Oswegatchie School Community, It has been a busy day at Oswegatchie today. Stu-
dents participated in the Hour of Code. The Hour
of Code is a global movement reaching over 100
million students in over 180 countries. We live in a
world surrounded by technology. And we know
that whatever field our students choose to go into
as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly
depend on understanding how technology works.
That’s why every one of the hour students at
Oswegatchie are joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of
Code during Computer Science Education Week (December 5-11). Students uti-
lized our technology lab, including some of our new Dot and Dash programmable
robots during the day, and new iPad.
Second grade student also attended the annual performance of the Nutcracker at
the Garde Theater. Students were introduced to the ballet at an Assembly here at
school on November 30th that featured some of the dancers in the show.
Today, we held our December Town Meetings in the cafeteria. At the Morning
meeting Mrs. Getty’s class led the school in the singing of the school song.
First Grade Students performed their simple machines dances. They have been
working on these dances with their teachers and resident artist L’Ana Burton,
who has helped to integrate dance and move-
ment into the student’s science curriculum to
get them to better understand and remember
the science concepts.
At the afternoon Town Meeting, Mrs. Zac-
caro’s Class shared their family winter tradi-
tion writing, Mrs. Servideo’s Class shared
their Winter writing poems, Miss Lane’s
Class shared their prime numbers dance,
which was completely student, organized,
and presented. Mr. Schaedler also had
some fifth grade student’s perform songs on the recorders.
Tonight is the OSO Winter Carnival from 6:30-8:00. It is a night of fun for fami-
lies. There will be games, music , movies, Cookies & Hot Cocoa and much more.
Come out with the kids and enjoy a fun filled night.
Our Holiday Sing Along will take place on Friday, December 23rd at 11:00
A.M. this year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ozmun

Dear Parent(s),
A few reminders as we head into the Winter Season
from the Health Room
*Please remember to send a COMPLETE, seasonally
appropriate change of clothing with your student to REMAIN at
school, at ALL times.
Our students go outside daily for recess and we do not
have clothing in the Health Room, and have limited storage ca-
pacity to maintain a supply
emergency student clothing. Please send
a hat, coat, mittens or gloves as well.
* Please remember to call the Main Of-
fice or School Nurse when your child is absent from School
* Please be aware that medical concerns or injuries that
occur at home, should be managed at home whenever
possible. The school Health Room is designed to attend
to illness and or injury that transpire during the school
day.
*Please be mindful of the following when planning for
return of your child to school post illness:
Students must be free from fever for 24 hours
WITHOUT the use of fever reducing agents (Tylenol
or Motrin)
BEFORE return to school
Students MUST remain home for a minimum of 24
hours after last episode of vomiting or diarrhea
Students recovering from upper respiratory issues
(colds) with a prolonged cough, should have the cough under
control so that they may attend and participate in the classroom
learning environment.
Chapped lip season is here, and you may send a non-
medicated chap stick labeled with your child’s name
to keep in his or her backpack as needed. Please re-
mind them not to share
Dry skin is a seasonal issue that should be managed at
home whenever possible. It is best to apply a gentle moisturizer
daily when children are still slightly damp from their shower or
bath.
Our mutual goal is to maintain as healthy a school envi-
ronment as possible for all, and reduce non-urgent visits
to the Health Room that impact valuable learning time.
By everyone abiding to these simple practices, it will
hopefully limit the spread of illness during the long win-
ter months!
Please feel free to contact the Health Room should you
have any questions or concerns at any time

Please have your child or children check the lost and
found table for assorted clothing or even a lunch box. We will
donate the lost and found items over the
December Holiday Break.
I wanted to make families aware that there are two ways your child’s lunch mon-ey can go into their account. One way is the meal ac-count. This excludes them from purchasing anything other than full meals, includ-ing milk. The other is the
general account. The money in this account can be designat-ed for either meals, milk, water or snacks. We now offer healthy snacks. They are $0.50 and include whole grain goldfish, cheese-its, animal crackers or pret-zels. We also bake whole grain cookies on Friday and sell them 2 for $0.50. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.
