BY ENRIQUE FERNANDEZ NEW YORK A one-year licensing agreement between RCAI Ariola Internacional, the major's branch for the U.S. Latin market., and the Latin American EMHkloon, brings RCA nearly full circle in its retriev­al of the major Latin artists it Jacked when it opened ilB U.S. office two years ago.

RCA will manufacture, promote, market and distribute EMI-Odeon product in the U.s. and Puerto Rico, thus regaining, at leagt for the U.S. market, Conner RCA superstAr Ro­cio Jurado, who had signed with EMI in 1984. The Spanish singer's new EMI album, produced by 00Tn­

poser/producer Manuel Alejandro, is being released this month under the new licensing agteement.

A similar 8gret!fficnt existed be­tween RCA and Ariola, now merged into one e»mpany, which brought back to RCA 's roster chartrbusting Mexican l:iinger J~ Jose. The RCA Latin roster is also bolstered by ita licensing of A&M Latin product, including recordings by Jose Feliciano and Lani Hall.

Besides Jurado, EMl talent to be handled by RCA includes Luis Mi· guel, La I\!quena Compatlfa, Den­iie de Kalafe and Yuri, a Mexican singer fonnerly with a Mexican af· filiate of the Spanish label Hispa· vox, now owned by EMI.

The plot thickens when one con· siders that Hispavox product, in· cluding such top talent 118 Raphael, is still being distributed by RCA's fiercest competitor in the U.s. mar­ket, Discoli CBS. Through licensing agteements and artist signings, the two majors virtually control the Latin market.

Overseeing EMI interests is the label's head of U.S. Latin opera· tion!:!, Oscar Llord. According to RCA vice president Manuel Sosa, there will be label 6eparation at the promotional level, something that already exUlts in the RCA Puerto Rican offices.

"EMI was looking to establish its own staff," says Uord, "but RCA closely resembled the kind of setup we wanted, with flexibility in both the Latin and American pop areas."
