Vietnamese and Japanese project members including JICA, JST reviewed achievements of the first year and planned the second year activities. HTV 9 was broadcast the JCC on the evening TV news. Zoom in Researchers Osaka Prefectural University Mr. Phan Ngoc Quang from Thai Binh Medical University, who is a microbiologist, is in PhD of Department of Preventive Environment and Nutrition Institute of Health Biosciences. 2 nd JCC on 14 th May 2013 in HCMC In the Project, there are many Vietnamese and Japanese researchers of microbiology, pharmacology and anthropology those who put efforts to clarify wide spread mechanisms of multi-drug resistant bacteria in Vietnam. Also to enhance capacity of researchers, Vietnamese researchers have started doctoral courses at universities in Japan. Microbiology Team Ms. Hoang Hoai Phuong from IHPH, who is a microbiologist, is studying in PhD of Veterinary Science at the Graduate School of Life & Environmental Sciences. Scientific symposium on food safety monitoring system in Vietnam was held on 14th

May 2013

at IHPH. Inviting scientists as well as students, this symposium was to exchange latest scientific

research between Vietnamese and Japanese scientists. From the Project, Dr. Huong of National

Institute of Nutrition (NIN) introduced outline of the Project, and Dr. Kumeda of Osaka

Prefectural Institute of Public Health (OPIPH) presented food safety monitoring system in Japan.

On 15th

April 2013, opening ceremony of Research Collaboration Center for Food Safety was

held at NIN, Hanoi. The Center consists of Molecular Biology laboratory and Microbiology

laboratory, which is equipped with 27 instruments donated from Japan. NIN invited Ministry

of Health and JICA to celebrate the launch of the Center.
