From the East…Brethren and friends,

It has been an interesting year. We appear to be getting on track financially as the Treasurer, Secretary, and Act. Sr. Warden have our investments working for us in a capital way that we have not seen for some time. Thank you, my brothers. Grand Lodge has had to raise the cost of being a Mason in California, so there has been an increase in the Dues for 2016. The Secretary got over-exuberant and sent out the wrong numbers for the year. He has enclosed an article concerning this issue. Please read that information inside this Trestleboard.

In Need of Some Sunshine:If any member knows of someone that needs a little sunshine, call the Lodge Secretary at (530) 533-7947, and we’ll take care of it. Better yet, you can phone, visit, or send a card, and give a little attention and cheer to these members.

Important Dues Notification:

My Brothers,

As your new Secretary I have made my first major mistake. The amount of dues in the notice you received was in error. I was informed by those more seasoned in the lodge that the sooner these notices can be sent out the easier it is on you, the member, and beneficial to the lodge.

H o w e v e r, G r a n d L o d g e A n n u a l Communication had not been held at that time, normally the middle of October, and there was an increase voted and approved during the 2015 session. The increase was $4.00. A $1.00 portion of which is for the George Washington Memorial Maintenance fund, plus $1.00 (explained below).

I apologize for this error and request, if you would be so generous, to send $5.00 to cover this discrepancy which will be added to your Lodge dues account.

Additionally, the Lodge bylaws state that when the dues are such that the next

Order of the Eastern Star - Amapola #35• Meetings: 1st & 3rd Thursday at 7:30 P.M. •

HAPPY NEW YEAR, ALL Y'ALL EASTERN STAR MEMBERSWelcome to 2016 and all it has to offer. For your enjoyment, enlightenment, service and financial opportunities, we offer the following in January:

“Crazy Socks” night on the 7th. Come to the 7:30 meeting wearing your craziest/mismatched pair of foot wear. Worthy Matron Jackie and Worthy Patron David have fun in store for us. (No dinner this night) WM Jackie has requested we have dinner on the first meeting of each month except those in which we serve a Sat. lunch, so do come for dinner on February 4th.

NOTE that the Worthy Grand Matron has specified that there is NO written dress code for Eastern Star, so you need not come in formal attire. Nice pants are acceptable always.

And then on Saturday, Jan. 23 there will be a mystery accompanied by lunch prior to our meeting. Lunch at 12:30, meeting at 2:00.

For service the Sew-n-sews will gather on Jan. 8 at 9:00 or thereabouts to work on those backpacks. We will not be working on wreaths this month as our usual 3rd Sat. work session is pre-empted by the lunch + meeting. But we do thank those who came to help on Dec. 4. We were “woefully short” of workers that day for whatever reason, and it took us 3 hours longer to get everything out, but the cemetery was resplendent with the wreaths. Major thanks go out to the Hot Shots of the Plumas National Forest (premier fire fighters) who showed up to help load and unload all 4000 of those wreaths and then stayed to make sure they got out to all our veterans grave sites. Those guys were “awesome!”

WM Jackie has as a project this year the gathering of new or gently used duffle bags and backpacks. This is to benefit the foster kids of Environmental Alternatives. Those youngsters often have to move from one place to another with nothing but garbage bags in which to put their belongings. So check your own closets, cupboards and boxes. See if you have a gently used duffle bag or backpack that is not being used. Scout out any such items at thrift stores, or find them new and bring them to the Lodge. Check with family, friends and neighbors for same.

And finally, a word about dues. The chapter dues plus Grand Chapter assessments this year total $59. The secretary will be sending out dues notices but to get a jump start you can send your payments to Malinda Caven at PO Box 16, Soda Springs, CA 95728. Make checks payable to Amapola #35.

age of the Lodge. It should be the first and foremost thing on all our minds, "Recruit". You don't have to solicit, but you can dangle a carrot with a simple question, like "do you know anything about Freemasonry?" That kind of statement can open the door.

I am hoping for a growth in the lodge and good will to all the Brethren.
