LCD TV Screen Burn WarningA characteristic of LCD TV Panels is that displaying the same image for a longtime may cause a permanent after-image to remain on the screen. This is calledscreen burn. Most pictures shown on your TV will be constantly moving and fill thescreen.
Examples of images that you need to watch out for are as follows (this is not anall-inclusive list):
• Black Bars: If black bars appear at the left/right or top/bottom of the screenit is recommended to change the format so that the picture fills the entirescreen.
• TV Channel Logos: e.g. Shopping channel logos and pricing displays -especially if they are bright and stationary. Moving or low-contrast graphicsare less likely to cause ageing of the screen.

Its alcohol / ammoniawill dissolve the front window'scoating.Never use solvent or thinner. Neveruse special cleaners which aredesigned for cleaning PC Monitorsor CRT TVs.Finally carefully rub dry with a cleandry lint-free cloth.Do not use paper towels or tissues toclean the set - paper can disintegratewhen wet or may leave a trail ofdust behind. Some paper can alsobe abrasive and scratch your screen.

Note: When thePICTURE SIZE is set to
AUTO, the aspect ratiowill automatically
change according tothe Wide ScreenSwitching (WSS)
signal, if it is available. This may be eithertransmitted by thebroadcasting TVchannel, or via a
recording from a VCRetc. Any WSS signalreceived will only beeffective in the AUTO
mode - however, someDVD players / Digital
Decoders etc. willautomatically switch
the aspect ratio via theSCART input (Pin 8switching), even if
AUTO is not selected. In any case if you
want to change to adifferent aspect ratioto the one selected
automatically, you canchange it by pressing
PICTURE SIZE.
In PC mode, the PIC-TURE SIZE feature is
available only for 16:9or 4:3 format. (In
“WXGA INPUT” mode,the PICTURE SIZE
feature is not avail-able.)
In HDMI or COMPO-NENT mode of scan-ning rate: 720p and1080i, the PICTURE
SIZE feature is avail-able only for AUTO
and CINEMA format.
Pressing PICTURE SIZE repeatedly scrolls through the following options.
Manual format setting
4:3It shows a 4:3 picture in original size with blackbands on left and right side.
FULL SCREEN:Stretches the left and right hand sides of a 4:3picture horizontally to fill the screen, whileleaving the centre of the picture unstretched.
Note:• In this mode the picture is geometrically distorted on the left and the right sides
of the screen.
16:9This mode is used with 16:9 signals from theDigital tuner, a DVD player or other externalsource. This uniformly stretches a 4:3 imagehorizontally to fill the screen (For example, a16:9 image is often stored ‘anamorphically’on a DVD, where the 16:9 image is stored as a horizontally compressed 4:3image - this mode restores the image to its correct 16:9 proportions).
CINEMA:This mode is used to zoom-in on (expand) 4:3‘letterbox’ format pictures (with black bars at thetop and bottom) so that they fill more of thescreen.
Note:• In the CINEMA mode, part of the picture may be slightly cut off due to the
expansion. However, it is possible to scroll the picture up or down to view thetop or bottom part of the picture (see page 19).
14:9:This enlarges a 4:3 picture to the 14:9 format.
AUTO:Automatically selects the aspect ratio (see note to the left).

1Examples of other AV equipment that you might connect to this TV
DVD player:For superior picture quality, set your DVD player to output an RGB signal (refer toyour particular DVD player owner's manual). Always connect DVD players (andother equipment which can output an RGB signal) to AV1 or AV2 - only the AV1and AV2 SCART sockets are compatible with RGB signals. Select ‘RGB’ in the‘AV1 INPUT’ or ‘AV2 INPUT’ option (see P.24 section6/part2). Select AV1 orAV2 input mode (see note to the left).Note:• S-Video signals can be played back either through the AV1 SCART socket, the
AV2 SCART socket, or the AV3 (see page 23). If you wish to use S-Video viathe AV1 SCART socket or the AV2 SCART socket, use an S-Video-to-SCARTadaptor (not supplied). Select ‘S-VIDEO’ in the ‘AV1 INPUT’ or ‘AV2 INPUT’option (see P.24 section6/part2).
• DVD players should always be connected to the TV directly, not connectedthrough a video recorder. This is because the copy-guard used on some DVDscan cause picture disturbance if connected in this way.

3Connecting an audio system
This connection allows you to hear the TV sound through external speakersconnected to an audio amplifier. To control the audio through the amplifier, turnon the TV and the amplifier, set the volume of both to a moderate level, and turnoff the TV’s built-in speakers (see “Turning off the built-in speakers” on page 14).You will need a stereo RCA/Phono audio lead to connect this set to your audiosystem.
Note:• If the volume of either the TV or the amplifier is set to 0 (or OFF), you will not
hear any sound.• Many TV broadcasts are transmitted with surround sound (eg. Dolby Surround)
as well as stereo. If you connect the Variable Audio Output sockets to asuitable surround sound amplifier system, it will be able to decode the sur-round information from the stereo signal output from the TV.
• If your stereo amplifier features Dolby Surround or similar, you will need toactivate this manually, as it will not switch itself on automatically (see your hi-fi's instructions for further details). Please also note that the sound adjustment(bass / treble / balance) controls (see P.13) only affect the sound through theTV speakers - it does not affect the sound through the audio output sockets.
4Connect to a Video camera or games console
Connect the Video camera (or games console) to the TV unit using the appropriateRCA / Phono AV leads (or S-Video if applicable). Select AV3-input mode (seepage 22).
Note:• If you have a camcorder with S-video, use an S-video lead instead of a standard
video lead. Do not connect both a standard video lead and an S-video lead atthe same time, or the picture performance will be unacceptable.

The HDMI input receives digital audio and uncompressed video from an HDMIequipped device or uncompressed digital video from a DVI equipped device. When you connect to a DVI device with an HDMI-to-DVI adapter lead, it onlytransfers the video signal, so it is necessary to use separate analogue leads(RCA/Phono type) to transfer the audio signals. Select the HDMI1 or HDMI2input mode (see page 22).
Connecting an HDMI or a DVI device to the HDMI input
This set is classedas "HD-Ready".This means that it
is capable of displaying HD(High Definition) signals whenconnected to a suitable HDsource, such as an HDreceiver or DVD player thathas HD capability, via HDMI,DVI, or Component Videoconnections.

also use HDMI-1 IN toconnect to DVI equippeddevice - in this case, youmust connect the audioleads to the HDMI-1 AU-DIO/PC AUDIO IN sockets.
