• With my first shots I followed my initial ideas on how the person in my images would stand and hold themselves. I got these ideas from research on other hip-hop music magazines such as Billboard and

Vibe as shown to your right.• I also liked the idea of the dark hair and features with red lips

which I also choose to apply to my images as its what I considered to make the image stronger and more effective.

• In order to be completely certain and satisfied with my final images for my music magazine, I choose three models to do the

same stances and poses in different clothing to get an exact idea of what works better.

• However, I did not use these images on my front cover as they didn’t appeal to me as a frequent hip-hip magazine consumer and I felt like something was missing and they could have been stronger.

FIRST SHOTS - FRONT COVER

MODEL ONE

• I think this is a good image because the clothing choice and the makeup complement each other. I also stick to the same reasoning that dark hair against a white wall stands out as more striking and appealing. Also the pose I choose for this shot with this model looks natural which is an advantage.

• However I did not use this image on my front cover as it has a slightly more indie feel than hip-hop which I feel is due to the clothing and jewellery. Also I didn’t think the facial expression was as appealing compared to the other images I had taken , partly due to the eye contact and makeup not being as strong.

MODEL TWO

• I think this is a good image because the makeup is very strong and the red lips and dark facial feature's and hair work extremely well together. I think the image comes across really elegant and with a strong posture. This however was the best image out of the three.• However I did not use this image for the front cover of my music magazine because I felt regardless of her strong posture the model did look slightly awkward with her arms and hands and I still felt something was missing, and the eye contact needed to be stronger in order to engage fully with the target audience.

MODEL THREE

• I tried something different with my third model, instead of having a vacant facial expression I made my model smile to see if it looked any better. I believe this is a really nice and natural photo.

• However I did not use this image for my front cover as I don’t feel it fits the conventional hip-hop magazine just like model one it fits more of a indie type of genre. I now recognize that the dark features for me definitely works better than the blonde hair and light features.

SECOND SHOTS- FRONT COVER

MODEL TWO

Page 8: Original music magazine photos

• I felt model two from my first shots was the strongest out of the three. Therefore I tried a different pose with her

which I have also seen done previously on both Billboard and Vibe magazine. I feel the pose is very important in

order to successfully sell a magazine.• I liked all of the images taken by model two of this pose

however I did not choose to use it for the front of my music magazine as I had better ideas for shots I wanted

to try out first.

THIRD SHOTS- FRONT COVER

• My third shots were also very much inspired by current music magazines. I was completely mind set after seeing both magazines on the top left and right that this would be the best way to show great eye contact.• I think the hair over the eye is shown to

be very engaging and appealing connoting all kinds of messages such as mystery making you want to find out more. This is what I want from my magazine people to want to read more! Want to find out more!

THIRD SHOTS- FRONT COVER

• I choose this image for my front cover because I just thought it was such a good shot. I loved how the hair complements the makeup and the clothes are simple and don’t take away the effect the eyes/eye makeup has. I found it really appealing for both myself and my target audience as it fits the genre.

• I edited the image as shown in the second photo to make it look more athletically pleasing.
