DinosaursDaspletosaurus torosus “Pete 3”

Locality: Collected in the Judith River Formation of central Montana. 78 million years old.

Size: Approximately 36 feet (10.6m) long and 10 feet (3m) high at the hips.

Description: Discovered in 2006, Pete III is one of the finest and most complete Daspletosaurus skeletons ever found. The semi-articulated skeleton includes most of the body, pelvis, limbs and tail. A moderate amount of skull elements are preserved, and will be restored using cast material. Preparation is nearly complete, and additional skeletal elements are being discovered as progress continues.

Comments: Basic preperation is completed on nearly all of the skeleton. This is one of the most complete Daspletosaurus skeletons ever found.

Availability: Delivery approximately 12 months from date of acquisition.

Price: $1,350,000 prepared, not mounted. $2,225,000 for the original skeleton mounted.

Tail on display in the RMDRC.

Daspletosaurus sp. “Sir William”

Locality: Collected in the lower Judith River Formation of Central Montana. 78 million years old.

Size: Approximately 36 feet (10.6m) long and 10 feet (3m) high at the hips.

Description: Excavation began in the fall of 2002 and continued during 2003 and 2004. We have obtained between 30-40% of the body from one end of the animal to the other, including many skull elements, femur, several vertebrae, ischia and more. The skull of Sir William suggests a more “Tyrannosaurus-like” animal than D. torosus, possibly indicating an intermediate form between D. torosus and T. rex. This may well be a new species.

Comments: Basic preparation is finished.

Availability: Delivery 12 months from date of acquisition.

Price: $935,000 prepared, not mounted. $1,925,000 for the mounted original skeleton, restored.

Thescelosaurus neglectus “Jonathan”

Locality: Hell Creek Formation of Montana. 66 million years old.

Size: 15 feet (4.57m) long and 5-6 feet (1.5-1.8m) tall.

Description: Jonathan, an extremely large Thescelosaurus neglectus, is the latest addition to the TPI fossil family. This articulated, very large ornithoipod is complete except for the neck, skull and distal tail. The preservation is outstanding and this will make a spectacular addition to your fossil collection. The hand, completely articulated, is one of only two known for Thescelosaurus, the other belonging to “Bert.” The feet are exquisitely preserved in perfect articulation. It was professionally collected and is a superb skeleton.TPI will use 3-D imaging technology with rapid prototyping to recreate the skull and other missing elements of this specimen. The specimen will be prepared, restored and mounted in 3D.

Comments: This specimen has been show-prepped.

Availability: Delivery 3-6 months from date of acquisition.

Price: $297,000 loose for study with a mounted cast. $385,000 for the original mounted.

Thescelosaurus neglectus “Bert”

Locality: Hell Creek Formation of Montana. 66 million years old.

Size: Size: 3 feet (<1m) high and about 6-7 feet (<2m) long.

Description: This superb specimen will be described as a juvenile. The majority of the skeleton is present, including a near perfect skull and lower jaw. The specimen also includes the first complete, fully articulated arm and hand ever discovered for this type of dinosaur. Initial publication will be done in an academic thesis, and some restrictions apply to public release of information about this specimen, with details available upon request. As you know, small dinosaurs create a disproportionate amount of viewer interest. Their appeal is universal, and despite the fact that Bert doesn’t have any big fangs, horns or claws, or possibly because of that fact in the dangerous world in which he lived, Bert will endear himself to young and old alike. Bert's skull the best ever found and bone quality is superb.

Comments: Preparation is well underway.

Availability: Delivery 2-5 months from date of acquisition.

Price: $434,500 loose for study with a mounted cast. $467,500 for the original mounted.

Pachycephalosaurus sp. “Sandy”

Locality: Hell Creek Formation of South Dakota. 66 million years old.

Size: 3m long, 1.5m high

Description: This is the only known skeleton of this genus of Pachycephalosaur. Sandy may belong to a new, transitional species. Naming rights are a possibility. More than 50% of the original skeleton is preserved, which is remarkable for this rare animal. It has many unusual and unique anatomical features, including ridged zygapophyses, spikes adorning the posterior skull region and more.

Comments: The scientific publication of this specimen would be the first official osteolo-gy of the post-cranial skeleton of Pachycephalosaurus. Its scientific importance is unquestioned. The specimen is completely prepared and the bones are stabilized.

Availability: Deliverable immediately as is. 8 months for original mount.

Price: $935,000 as-is. $984,500 as-is, with a mounted cast. $1,166,000 for the skeleton mounted free-standing.

Maiasaura “Gil”

Locality: Judith River formation of MontanaDescription: A large adult specimen, missing the rear legs, neck and skull. The specimen is otherwise virtually complete, and during field excavation, many areas of skin impressions were discovered, with more promising to be found during preparation. The specimen is articulated. Rib cage, hips, one arm and the tail are all complete. We recommend mounting this specimen in its death pose, as the right arm is extended forward, ribs pointing up, and tail straight out. It could be mounted as-is, or the rear legs could be composited in, as could a neck and skull provided from a cast specimen for completion.Comments: Preparation has not yet begun. Bone quality is excellent.Availability: Delivery 6-9 months from date of acquisition.Price: $495,000 mount as-is in situ. $530,000 in situ with composited cast and original missing elements including skull.

Mosasaurs

Tylosaurus proriger “Sophie”

Locality: Pecan Gap Formation in the Taylor group of SE Texas. 76 million years old.Size: Approximately 13-14 meters long (41 feet) with a 1.75 meter long skull.Description: Can be mounted as the predator of Xiphactinus (giant fish) skeletons, or in battle with another large Tylosaurus. This is an extraordinarily well-preserved specimen from southeast Texas which rivals the world record for size. Distortion of the bones is at a minimum, and the vast majority of the skeleton is present, missing primarily distal caudals which have been reconstructed. Scavenging of the carcass by sharks, plus vertebral crushing indicating avascular necrosis (the bends) or calcium deficiency from the production of babies makes this an important specimen with a great story to tell. Premaxilla and both maxillae preserve numerous healed injuries from snout-wrestling.Comments: This specimen is the largest Tylosaurus ever offered for sale. This specimen is at least 80% complete. Preparation is complete.

Mike Triebold backgroundProfessional associations:Member of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology since 1987.President of the Association of Applied Paleontological Sciences from 1993-1995, 2004-2006 and reelected to a second term in 2007-2008.Chairman of the commercial paleontology section of the worldwide conference on Paleontology in the 21st Centuryheld in Frankfurt, Germany in 1997.Advisory Board member of Dinosaur Ridge National Natural Landmark, USFS, Morrison, CO.

Mike Triebold has been a fossil collector his entire life, beginning as a child growing up on a farm in North Dakota. This life-long interest lead to serious avocational collecting activity in Kansas beginning about 1982, and evolved over 7 years into an idea to create a new fossil collecting and exhibit company, which was established in 1989. Triebold’s company, Triebold Paleontology, Inc. (TPI), soon became recognized as providing some of the highest quality prepared fossil specimens. His customer base quickly became primarily institutions. By 1990, TPI began molding and casting its finest specimens, and was one of the first in commercial paleontology to do so. TPI’s collecting activity has taken place in MT, SD, ND, KS and TX on approximately 27 different ranches, some of which TPI has been working on for 25 years. The specimens collected, prepared, molded, cast, mounted, marketed and sold have included everything from the giant Apatosaurus to the tyrannosaurid Albertosaurus, to the tiny Cretaceous mammal, Meniscoessus robustus. Success in collecting and preparation of marine fossils from Kansas in particular has earned him much respect, as he is the only person to date who has prepared, molded, cast and mounted the giant fish Xiphactinus, Pachyrhizodus and Ichthyodectes in 3 dimensions, completely free of rock. The extreme delicacy and complicated anatomical structure of these animals make these specimens unique and sought-after. No other individual or company, before or since these specimens were introduced to the public in 1992 has attempted this feat. He discovered the first Pachycephalosaurus specimen with a body, with about 50% of the bones present, in 1994. With input from top scientists, Mike restored the entire skeleton. He also discovered the world’s first and only complete, intact skeleton of Protosphyraena perniciosa in 2003, yet another large fish from Kansas, currently undergoing preparation. In 2006 his discovery of the first Lancian mammal skeleton, Didelphodon, has lead researchers to understand its surprising lifestyle, soon to be published. Sales of mounted original fossil skeletons are many, including: Triceratops, Albertosaurus, Edmontosaurus, Thescelosaurus, Xiphactinus, Platecarpus, Tylosaurus, Champsosaurus and others. In each case, TPI retained the casting rights, and in most cases provided the buyer with cast sales protections.
