The Bottom Line

1. Profit and/or sustainability is a primary driver for most organizations

2. If the ultimate purpose of the organization is profitability or sustainability i.e. prosperity, then we must make the case that happiness and health are essential contributors to “prosperity”

3. Organizational Lifespan – development theory

4. Does prosperity = Wellbeing?

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Happiness and health are highly intuitive concepts when considering and individual employee’s wellbeing. Organizations are designed around profitability and/or sustainability. The concepts of happiness and health are not traditionally used, intuitive or necessarily welcomed in looking at organizational effectiveness or efficiency. Therefore we must make the case for these aspects of organizational wellbeing as tied to profitability and sustainability- what we will refer to as “prosperity”. There are numerous org theorists who parallel the development or lifespan of an organization with human or individual development. These useful and credible theories then naturally support the concept of organizational wellbeing and all its aspects such as happiness and health in the ways we have defined above.

Conclusion

As more organizations move toward “wellness” models to impact cost and employee wellbeing, does it also make sense to look toward the overall organization’s wellbeing instead of waiting for problems to necessitate a reaction?
