Move ahead with Comrade Shibdas Ghosh Thought – Nihar Mukherjee

of the proletariat based on Marxism-Leninism in the country, he took itupon himself the task to give it aconcrete shape with resolutedetermination and in defiance of allodds and uncertainties. Nothingcould dissuade him from thisrevolutionary mission. He wadedthrough all obstacles, all storms andrough weather. He could achievethat because to him testimony oftrue realization was in conducingaction. We must understand thatand apply in our life. The onlyyardstick to ascertain whether wehave correctly understood anythingis whether we are spurred to actionnecessitated out of it. And it is notenough to just act. We must act inthe correct process. The proof of myrealization of whatever knowledgeand lesson I have received fromComrade Ghosh lies in my actingalong the correct course derived outof it.

I have been fortunate enough tocome to his close contact right fromthe very inception of building up theparty. I got the opportunity to followevery step of his. How far I havebeen able to imbibe his thoughts, correctly apply his teachings andbuild up myself step by step inaccordance with his teachings — allthis would testify as to whether Ihave been able to become his truedisciple, apt follower of histhoughts. I would exhort upon all ofyou desiring to be followers of hisillumining thoughts to correctlyapply his teachings in your life, correctly act in accordance with histeachings. If you do that, you mightgo ahead of me in the revolutionarystruggle, place yourself in muchmore responsible positions indischarging revolutionaryobligations. Every leader and cadreof the party must be dawned uponby this consciousness. Then only itwill be possible in this class-dividedsociety to organize the exploitedpeople from all sections of thesociety in their revolutionarystruggle against the oppressor classbased on the edifice ofrevolutionary ideology, politics, ethics, morality and way of life. Andthey will be able to properly act inevery situation; take everynecessary step one by one towardsappropriate alignment of forces forcorrect execution of the proper task.In doing so, no work should beviewed as small or less important.May be one task is different fromthe other, ranking differently inorder of priority, immediacy or

arduousness. We are to only viewand judge from that perspective asto which work needs to beemphasized or given priority in agiven context so as to create properbalance in handling diverseactivities. But importance of everywork or activity should never beunderestimated. It is extremelyimportant to maintain this balanceand determine which particularwork or activities should receivepriority or relatively more emphasisin a particular situation. However, inevery situation, the base politicalline and strategy of revolution aswell as alignment of forces must beon a clear focus. For that, we mustbuild up ourselves as well as others,as Comrade Ghosh had developedhimself and the others throughstruggle.

Much before Comrade Ghosh, people who initiated a cult ofMarxism-Leninism and had goodstudy of classics felt the necessity ofa communist party on this soil todevelop communist movement. Sothey built up the party known asCommunist Party of India or CPI.They even came in contact withgreat Stalin. It is true that some ofthe founding leaders of the CPI hadopportunity to meet Stalin. Oncethey went to Moscow and werewaiting to meet Stalin. Instead ofcalling them for a formal meeting,Stalin himself alongwith Molotovwent to see them and enquired whythey wanted to meet him. The CPIleaders said that they had come toknow two things from him. First ofall, they said that on examinationthey had found the line of‘revolution’ adopted by B TRandive, the then leader of the partywas fraught with dangerous flaws. So they sought from Stalin whatpunishment should be meted out toRandive. In reply, Stalin said that nodoubt Randive had committedserious mistake. But suchpunishment was no remedy for amistake. Why would the question ofimpeachment arise if he wasrepentant for his mistake and agreedto rectify himself? That was enough. From this advice of Stalin, othersshould also draw lesson. I feel weshould also traverse the same path.No punishment is called for. It isenough, if one rectifies himself bycorrectly understanding his mistake.

Next Stalin wanted to knowtheir second question. They saidthey wanted him to formulate thestrategy and tactics of Indianrevolution. Stalin burst intolaughter. He said that they

themselves would have to deducethe stage and strategy of Indianrevolution. India, he said, had a longhistory. So they must thoroughlystudy the history of their country, understand the prevailing economic-political-social-cultural scenario andget to know the culture, traditionand the ethical-moral construct.First they needed to determine whothe main enemy was and who themain danger was before revolution? Both these forces had to beidentified beforehand and it shouldbe borne in mind that unless themain danger could be squarelydefeated and isolated from thepeople, main enemy can not beoverpowered. See how beautifullyand lucidly Stalin explained thefundamental question.

Through innumerable classes, discourses and even informaldiscussions, Comrade Ghosh maderelentless endeavour to make theseaspects so clarified to the leadersand cadres that they could realizethe same not formally but creatively. You must remember that it is ofutmost importance to understandhow have I drawn due lesson fromhis teachings, how have Iinternalized his thoughts. Becauseon this depends whether my grasp isproper and whether my work, myactivities towards fulfillment of therevolutionary objective for which Ihave engaged myself in arevolutionary struggle are beingchannelized along the right track. Ifmy grasp is correct, that would beabsorbed in my flesh and blood, incarnate in my body and mind, mycharacter, my behaviour andconduct, my life style, in everyaspect of mine.

There are many other aspects ofComrade Shibdas Ghosh’srevolutionary life. I have onlyhighlighted a few of such basicaspects, that too not all, before you

today. Much more have most of thecomrades heard or learnt fromComrade Ghosh. This day beckonsus to make strides ahead with thoseteachings of his. That would be ourresolve. We must move aheadsteadfast with this resolve. With thatpledge, I am concluding today.

32nd Memorial Day ofComrade Shibdas Ghosh wasobserved throughout the countryand everywhere the observance wasmarked by placing of floral tributesat the portrait of the departed leader, deliberations on his teachings andcontributions, randilion of the songon Comrade Shibdas Ghosh and TheInternationale. Here we publish thereports we received so far.

Confidence motion to push ahead nefarious N-deal

Bourgeois politics nosedives intobottomless pit of degeneration

Bourgeois parliamentarydemocracy of India unveils onemore chapter, in fact one of itsfilthiest chapters in July 2008. TheIndian ruling capitalists and theirtrusted representative Congress haddecided to accomplish a nefariousnuclear deal with the USimperialists and thereby, to emergeas a nuclear power, as well as, beroped in as a military partner of theworld’s most dreaded and hatedwar-monger. With that end in view, they were bent upon earningsanction for their anti-people, anti-nation design from the members ofthe Parliament. Apparently centringround this issue, CPI(M)-led leftparties withdrew their support tothe Congress-led UPA government, which was really under thecompulsion of regaining their anti-Congress leftist image lost to peopleand even their ranks during thesepast four years when they actedvirtually as oxygen masks to theutterly anti-people UPAgovernment, whenever it gasped forlife. It must be added herenotwithstanding this ‘withdrawl ofsupport’, CPI(M) and its allies didnot make any serious attempt todevelop a countrywide movementagainst the nuclear deal, though theydid not fail to spend strong words tokeep their ranks alive. In any case, their ‘withdrawl of support’ on July8 precipitated a twist of events. SP,led by Mulayam Singh Yadav, inwhom CPI(M) had so far beenfinding a natural ally in the fightfor secularism, confirmed theirsupport to the UPA government.Gaining a substantial ally in SP, theUPA government immediatelyannounced that they would seekconfidence in the Parliament andbefore the confidence motion wasplaced, they declared that theywould win the motion. However, they did not seek the confidence inany hot haste. Rather they met thePresident, absolutely partisan and intheir fold; they recommended to herto convene a special session ofParliament for the confidencemotion. They got the date fixed on22 July.

As soon as the date wasannounced, hectic, yet orchestratedactivities sprang loose. On one side,to ensure the magic figure of 271for ‘confidence’ the UPA set out forfishing MPs particularly from

among the vacillating and smallerparties or so-called ‘independents’with attractive baits, at the sametime threatening them a fall ofgovernment would mean freshelection and thus uncertainty, evendoom, for many of them. On theother, the opposition too, nowhaving CPI(M) and its associates intheir ranks, got busy with their owntricks and steps to enter the arena.Advertisements from the UnionMinistry of petroleum and naturalgas were issued in leading dailies ofthe capital to garner support for theNuclear deal. The Uniongovernment dusted and revived along forgotten proposal to renameLucknow Airport as ChaudharyCharan Singh Airport. It meant thegovernment had started a fresh spellof misusing its power and positionas well as public exchequer tocreate opinion in its favour andmeet the end of winning confidence.Further, judged in this background,in a gross misuse of CBI, thegovernment prompted it to file afresh affidavit against Mayawati, the leader of BSP and the chiefMinister of Uttar Pradesh and thearch rival of Mulayam Sing Yadavof SP. With SP now in the UPA lap,CPI(M) with its allies, in their turn, ran up to none other than Mayawati, whom they have always criticizedfor practicing worst kind of castepolitics: a CPI(M) leader wasreportedly found to comment thatwhile traveling in a train, youcannot complain about yourcompanions. More suchunprincipled alliances keptspringing up or lying dormant, asthe D-day drew close. While thebigger players, like BJP or CPI(M)and its allies, really waited in thelarch, posing a fake war with theUPA without putting up any realfight inside or outside theParliament, and thus allowing theUPA a free ground to cover, individuals and parties, howeversmall, tainted or insignificant inpolitics they might have been, werethrowing out their ‘wishlist’ fortheir support. ‘Poaching’ intoopponents’ ‘fort’, a new coinage forthe country itself and bare andnonchalantly shameless horse-trading kept on mounting. Price forsupport sky-rocketed to the tunes oftens of crores of rupees even 50crore for each MP. In the land with

overwhelming bulk of peoplereeling under poverty-unemployment, the figures were notjust fabulous, they were vulgarlybeyond any perception. The PMO(Prime Minister’s Office) wastermed the biggest “ bargainingcounter” and “patent promoter ofhorse trading”. Mayawati, too, fromher Office as the UP Chief Minister, reportedly attempted ‘poaching’dishing out privileges to rival MPs,for instance of SP, Mulayam’s party. The sacrosanct Parliament became a‘house of auction-bidders’, anauction centre. Reportedly, partiesalso deployed private detectives tokeep a tab on their MPs. Even thedreaded convict MPs of differentrecognized parties, who werealready serving life terms formurder or similar charges and whodeserved to be hanged, were alsofinding grand treatment for theirprecious votes, on what terms notalways known. Among such‘celebrities’, Sibu Soren, the JMMchief and the notorious figurecharged with murder, apparentlyasked for the Coal Ministry in theUnion Cabinet, along with shiftingof headquarters of the DVC and theCIL even severing a few districtsfrom West Bengal to Jharkhand. Itwas astonishing that the judiciary, too, remained quite indifferent tosuch immoral grand treatment oflegally condemned and convictedcharacters. But definitely thesebranded criminals ridiculed theflamboyant campaign againstcriminalization of politics andcriminals finding entry intopolitics. Long debates inside thehouse, or verbose sermonizingspeeches on this or that occasionsby the PM or other leaders as wellthe persons of eminence in thejudiciary, elaborately wordedresolutions and instructions of theomni-powerful ElectionCommission all seemed to havevanished into thin air. There washardly anybody from among them toraise the vexing question: howcould such characters find entry intowhat the capitalists themselves oncecalled ‘high temple of democracy’,not to speak of their emergence askey factors in nation’s politics onsuch a crucial question as theconfidence motion was.

And, of course, there was the‘million dollar’ question. Where

was the fabulous amount of moneycoming from? Obviously, thecapitalist class was in the fray withall heart and purse. The corporates, the monopolists, the powerfullobbies and barons of industry, mines, agriculture and othereconomic sectors, had thrown theirweight into this nationwide spate ofworst kind of rat race for power andpelf. It was such a murky scenethat even the ‘bookies’ wereuncertain; the bourgeois media, too, could not but comment that “therun-up to the latest head count in theLok Sabha is raising so much stinkthat it is unlikely to leave the rulingUPA unscathed, even if it emergesfrom the test with pass marks. TheNuclear deal, which was the reasonwhy the current floor test wasnecessitated, has since receded tothe background.”. There were “..allegations of unholy deals for thedeal, charges of corporate rivalriesbeing settled through politicalbargains and bit players trying tomake capital out of the situation”.The feud between the two leadingcorporates of the country waspushed right into the PMO, seekingits intervention and meaning itsfavour, obviously against a bargainfor the PMO, in turn. Many leadingpoliticians hinted at this rampantcorruption, including horse trading, rather casually, in passing. Butnobody, not even the so-calledleftist leaders seemed to beinterested in going beyond endingtheir crusade with a chuckle or awry smile, without caring fordeveloping a strong popular opinionagainst these immoral acts with aview to preventing them. Nobody, particularly the bigger contestants, raised any voice against suchpolitics bereft of any and every kindof values, that simply demandedoutright condemnation in absoluteunambiguous terms. It appearedthat since none of them wasprepared to face a fresh election andpeople’s verdict, they preferred togive the UPA government its leaseof life and thus a free stage to winrequired support by any meanswhatsoever. So the things went onunabated.

The session started on 21 July. While the country was seething withanger against these immoral franticactivities, this totally unethical,

Parliamentary democracy proves itself exhaustedvalueless politics, the honourablemembers of the Parliament, themain players of all these activities, maintained scrupulous silence aboutthese inside the house without anyprick of their conscience. There, business went on with usual dinsand bustles, though behind thoseshows, there ran the last- momentbehind-the-curtain deals. Finally, only a few hour before the vote, three BJP MPs barged into theParliament with fat bundles ofcurrency notes to the tune of croresof rupees and claimed they wereoffered those amounts by a leader ofthe UPA-SP combination, with aview to abstaining from themselvesfrom the confidence- motion. TheParliament enacted all scenes of adrama for or against those threeMPs, called for police, cried forinvestigation, its members issuedvolumes of statements and reactionsand so on. But while the situationdemanded that all other business bestopped to settle and investigatethe serious allegations of bribery, true or false, and to take propersteps against people responsible, theParliament under the leadership ofthe Speaker, who used to clamourleftist jargons the other daypreferred to hush up the incidentand thus save the UPA side, at leastfor the time being, convened an allparty meeting and allowed thebusiness to continue with abreathing gap of about an hours forthe dust to settle. Nobody, not evenfrom among the CPI(M) and itsassociates, demanded that had thegovernment any semblance ofrespect for democratic norms, itmust condemn this act all-out and inunequivocal terms and mustimmediately resign, since membersof the ruling combination itself hadbeen openly accused of beinginvolved. Nothing of the kindhappened, the whole incident wasshoved under carpet and the UPAwon the motion by a margin ofabout 19 votes, with 10 abstentions;14 opposition MPs voted for thegovernment, while 7 UPA-SP MPsvoted against the government.Everything passed off normally as ifthere has not been anything soserious as to demand considerationand condemnation. However, evenwith the voting, the margin was notas big as it looked. It was reportedthat at least 28 MPs switchedloyalties. 18 MPs , including theSpeaker himself were expelled orwere on the verge of being expelled

from their respective parties forflouting their party whips andvoting otherwise or for abstainingthemselves. And the UPAgovernment sailed throughsmilingly on this chariot oflimitless corruption, shamelesstreachery and sordid valuelessness. It may be recalled here that, byConstitutional provisions (Article102(2)), legislators going againstparty whips stood disqualified andin this case too, the errant MPswere liable to lose their MP seats. But it has been already indicatedthat even if they are declareddisqualified now, the stand theytook on July 22 will not be affectedin any way . Besides, notwithstanding the rules, whetherthey are to lose their seats or not, will rest on the Speaker, who hasalready sided with the governmentside.

People of the entire country wasstunned with pain and anger. So,this was the real face of those whowere supposed to be theirrepresentatives to raise their voiceinside the Parliament and whoenjoyed all sorts of privileges byvirtue of that position. It was a totaldemolition of democracy that theyperpetrated. If such acts go onunabated what else could be morehelpful and catalytic to usher infascism on this soil at anyopportune moment. But somethingmore waited for people to hear andbear. The Prime Minister who hadlead this band of corrupt, valueless, treacherous MPs showing norespect for democracy, nonchalantlyspoke out in his victory speech:Whatever I have done in this highoffice of PM I have done with aclear conscience and the bestinterests of my country and ourpeople at heart. I have no otherclaims to make. His countrymenshould feel temporarily relieved atthose last words; it was quitefortunate that he did not have any‘other claims to make’; themagnitude and character of whathappened with him in his ‘highoffice’ and what he clearly endorsedwith ‘a clear conscience’ wasenough for ‘his country and theirpeople’. The country was alreadyshocked with what had happened;people were at a loss to find rightword for how they should term thiswhole scene of absolutely valuelesspolitics. Anything more would havebeen still more disastrous andshameful, no doubt, for the nation, for the country and for its people.

But, at the same time,democratic-minded saner section ofpeople must see through the scenes. They need to realize that it does notsuffice with only condemning theseincidents. They must find out whysuch things could happen all beforethe wide-open eyes of the nation andwithout any compunction from thedoers. It is becoming high time torealize that there is nothing more toexpect from the bourgeoisparliamentary democracy prevalentin the capitalist system of thecountry. It must also be recalled thatmulti-party parliamentarydemocracy arose in history with theadvent of the bourgeois, that is, thecapitalist society and theaccompanying capitalist rule. Itcame as the political superstructureof the bourgeois society that stoodfor individual’s right to chose hisrepresentative for governance of hiscountry, his democratic right toform association and party; hisfreedom expression to give vent toindividual and collective opinions. Itis true that ever since the early daysof the bourgeois parliamentarysystem, it has acted as a prop in thehands of the ruling capitalist class tochose parties or forces forgovernance; legislative forum hasalways been an appendage of theclass rule. Yet, in the days when theparliamentary system wasupcoming, it nourished democraticrights and norms and values that therising bourgeoisie upheld.Corruption and treachery werecondemned; people’s representativesrecognized their responsibilities andaccountabilities to the people. However, the more the capitalistsystem slid into its inherent crisis, the faster and to greater extent theruling class, as well as theirrepresentatives at the helmparliamentary governments becamealienated from people on account oftheir pro-capitalist, anti-peoplepolicies. This led to degeneration ofthe parliamentary system itself. Thesoul concern of the ruling capitalistsbecame to ensure some such party oralliance to power that would helpmaintain the capitalist rule in thebest possible way at any particularmoment and would divert theburden of the crisis of the system onto the people. The bourgeois- pettybourgeois political parties in poweror aspiring to rise to power, in theirturn, could not but take recourse tonot just anti-people measures with aview to serving the ruling capitalistclass, but also unethical

undemocratic means to survive inpower in whatever way it waspossible. All norms and values, allcommitments, accountabilities orresponsibilities to the people werethrown into the air. Nothing seemedto be unfair and unjust forremaining in or rising to power.Democracy lost all its soul; itreigned only with its bare frame.Parliament too exhausted itself.Rules were there, not for anybodyto go by; values were only to befound in void speeches; corruption, treachery became the order of theday.

This has been the experience inone and all capitalist countries, be itBush’s USA, Brown’s UK orelsewhere in any underdevelopedcountry, in the present days whenthe world capitalist-imperialist orderhas slid into an unassailable intensecrisis. In face of this crisis, thecapitalist rulers of each and everycapitalist country have given birthto not only huge financial capital, but also a military-industrycomplex with a view to keepingtheir tottering economy andsqueezing market artificiallystimulated feeding them withdemands from the military. At thesame time, with a view topreventing growth of revolutionaryforce and to saving its crisis-riddeneconomy, the capitalists-monopolists are taking toconsolidation of power leading toadministrative fascism, evenkeeping the façade of parliamentarydemocracy in tact. Thuseverywhere, the government isfound to be going against the verybasic tenets of democracy, floutingevery norm and value on anypretext, raising any bogie, be itnational jingoism or terrorism orany such. Everywhere, it is thefinancial world, the monopolists-industrialists, the corporates, whichare using their money power aidedand abetted by muscle or militarypower to get the government takemeasures to their interest. It is thatall powerful financial world thatwaves the green flag to a so-calledelected government for perpetratingwanton military attack on asovereign country, as was the casewith the US aggression on Iraq orelsewhere; it is that same financialpower that monitors coupes orrigged elections to bring down anypopular government and place agovernment of their choice andconfidence. There is no more any

Confidence motion topush ahead nefarious N-deal

place of people’s aspiration or desireor even their simple liking. Like anyother capitalist country, India, too, stands no exception to this.

Armed with the teachings ofMarxism- Leninism- ComradeShibdas Ghosh thought, our partySUCI has repeatedly presented thisanalysis on the present political-social crises, capitalist countries arefacing these days. The presentobnoxious political events that tookplace centring round the confidence-motion in the Parliament, are thefilthy expressions of thisphenomenon of total social-political- cultural degeneration ofbourgeois politics. They are, thus, proving beyond doubt that theparliamentary democracy of thecapitalist system has exhausted itsrole in history. No kind or amount ofadjustments or alignments ofpolitical forces within theParliament can prevent suchdeplorable incidents from recurring.

It must be realized that people willhave to think afresh for newer roadsto achieve democracy in its realessence, that is to be found in theproletarian democracy only. It cannever be attained withoutoverthrowing the prevailingcapitalist system and state whichbreed all evils in increasinglymenacing forms. So democracy-loving people find no choice left, but to develop class and massstruggles only to prepare forrevolutionary struggle againstcapitalism-imperialism on thestrength of correct ideologicalunderstanding and consciousnessbased on Marxism- Leninism andsteeled with higher cultural-moral-ethical standards. Only with suchstruggles raised to a height, canpeople think of putting a check onsuch reprehensible incidents recurin future. We would appeal to alldemocratic-minded, well-meaningpeople to judge the deplorableincidents from this angularity.

The country held a meeting on July16 in observance of this victory. The Israeli army also werecompelled to give back coffin-laidbodies of four hundred fiftyLebanese and Palestinian fighters, the victims of Israeli attack.

On July 14, Comrade ManikMukherjee placed floral tributes atthe tomb of the late Vice-Presidentof the Hizbullah, Imad Mughnia. He was accompanied by Md. Taiand Md. Qassem, both members ofthe Secretariat of the InternationalAnti-Imperialist and People’sSolidarity Committee, who alsoplaced their floral tributes. On July16, as invited guest ComradeManik Mukherjee participated inthe mammoth gathering of a fewlakhs of people. The Hizbullahchief Md. Nasirullah, who livedunderground on being underconstant threat from US-Israeliattack, made a brief appearance inthe rally.

The Hizbullah leaders, including Naim Qassem, the VicePresident of the organization, andthe opposition leaders of Lebanonhad talks, independently, withComrade Manik Mukherjee. Dr. AliSayyad of Consultation Centre ofStudies and Documentation, aresearch organization, was alsopresent during discussions. TheLebanese leaders, including NaimQassem, expressed that they wereready to hold the proposedinternational anti-imperialistconference at Beirut in Novemberor first week of December next, after having the consent of RamsayClark, the President of theInternational Anti-ImperialistCommittee. They also proposed tohold the conference united withthe Cairo conference which is beingheld for years. They gave Comrade

Comrade Manik Mukherjee,SUCI Central Staff and GeneralSecretary of the International Anti-Imperialist and People’s SolidarityCommittee, recently paid a visit toLebanon at the invitation of theHizbullah, the major anti-imperialistorganization of that country. Hereached Beirut, the capital, on July14.

After they had devastated Iraq, the US imperialists aided by theZionist Israel have made Lebanonone of their principal targets.Lebanon has provided shelter to thePalestinian refugees uprooted by thecruel attacks of Israel, militarily andpolitically backed by the US rulers.Making it a plea that the reliefcamps of Lebanon have become thecentres of anti-imperialist ‘terrorist’forces, Israel is bringing downincessant missile and air strikes oncivilian targets and residentialareas, at the beckoning of the USimperialists. Not only the Israelibrigand has devastated this land, one of the richest instance of ancienthuman civilization, it had set upmilitary prisons of the sort of theHitlerite concentration camps andinfamous Guantanamo run by theUS imperialists, with a view totorturing the Lebanese. TheHizbullah leadership have preservedthe areas devastated by Israel as also

these prisons; they showed these toComrade Manik Mukherjee asmarks of inhuman imperialistdestruction and torture.

But no amount of destruction ortorture could frustrate the organizedresistance put up by the Lebanese. The Israel army had to free fivedetainees, one held for the last 30years and others kidnapped in 2006,under the pressure of the organizedresistance of the Lebanese, as a partof which the Hizbullah held twoIsraleis and let them free only whenthe Israel army did release theunlawfully detained five Lebanese.

Mukherjee submitted that onprinciple, there was no difficultyin holding a united conference, though it can be decided only afterthe declaration of the Cairoconference which the Lebaneseleaders gave him, is readthoroughly. Comrade Mukherjeealso had talks with Dr. MusidKuteish, the Poilt Bureau memberand Secretary International Wing ofthe Communist Party of Lebanonand gave him a copy of the works ofComrade Shibdas Ghosh. At hisproposal to build up party-to-partyrelation between the SUCI and theCommunist Party of Lebanon, heassured that they would finallydecide after discussion in theirparty, which, he believed, would notbe in the negative.

In a background when the Indiancapitalists and the Uniongovernment is increasingly closingup with the US imperialists and theimperialist globalization is bringingdisastrous effects on people’s life,economically-socially-culturally,importance of militant anti-imperialist struggles is coming outin bold relief. Besides, when behindtheir anti-imperialist slogans, theso-called leftists of the country haveturned themselves into virtual totalsubservience to the imperialists, theefforts of SUCI to build up anti-imperialist struggles in the countryon a solid foundation and tocoordinate such struggles comingup everyday in different countries ofthe world, have assumed greatsignificance. The recent Lebanonvisit of Comrade Manik Mukherjeeand the fruitful exchanges heundertook there, will definitely addimpetus to people’s struggles in thiscountry and elsewhere against USimperialism and US-Israel militarynexus.

Appeal of the International Anti-imperialist andPeople’s Solidarity Coordinating Committee

U.S. military bases, economicsanctions and blockades pose athreat to peace, stability anddevelopment on every continent, even where they have not yetinflicted the enormous level ofbrutality and devastation that majorU.S. wars have in Korea, Vietnam,Iraq and Afghanistan.

In Iraq over 1 million have died.More than five million are refugees.U.S. occupation has laid waste tothe entire country.

In already impoverishedAfghanistan, the U.S./NATOoccupation has brought not progressand development but even greaterdestruction and chaos. NATO hasexpanded military strikes toPakistan and militarized the entireregion.

Mass opposition to theseoccupations must grow and growstronger. But international attentionis needed also to stem Washington’s“silent” interventions, which inflictpain and promise chaos.

Foreign troops on a nation’s soilforce a surrender of sovereignty.Foreign bases mean constantintervention in a country’s politicsand policies, whether these arepublicly acknowledged bases or thesemi-secret “privatized” U.S. basescalled Cooperative Security

Locations depending on“contractors.”

The U.S. maintains an intrusivenetwork of military bases in morethan 70 countries. New CollectiveSecurity Locations are beingestablished in up to 100 othercountries.

Today there are U.S. bases andCSLs throughout South and CentralAsia along with U.S. / NATO basesin almost every country of Europe –east and west. U.S. militarypresence and influence in Colombiais the greatest threat to peace andstability in the Western Hemisphere.

Countries that have resisted thebasing of foreign troops and baseson their soil, attempted to pursueindependent development orresisted the policies imposes by theIMF and international financecapital are increasingly targetedwith severe forms of sanctions, economic dislocation and politicalsabotage.

In a world based on unequal andglobalized trade, the threat of U.S.sanctions and blockades is asentence of underdevelopment andhunger. Sanctions create wrenchingeconomic dislocation and spiralinginflation that strikes the harshestblow on the most defenseless, thepoorest, the oldest and the youngest

– bringing hunger, malnutrition, sickness and death.

The ever more hostile U.S.blockade of Cuba has continued for50 years. U.S. sanctions — an act ofwar — hit Syria, Iran, Sudan,Somalia, Zimbabwe, North Korea,Serbia, and Myanmar among others.Washington’s sanctions are alsoused to bludgeon others intosubmission — for fear of sufferingthe same fate as these U.S. targets.

U.S. military aid and technicalassistance creates dangerousinfluence and causes aggression.U.S. military aid to Israel has fueled60 years of aggression andsuppression against the Palestinianpeople and neighboring countriesthat was not otherwise possible. Itmust be ended.

Washington also demands thatthe UN Security Council approveinternational strangulation oftargeted countries. Similar U.S.pressure is placed on othercountries, on international tradeorganizations, banks and lendinginstitutions to participate in theeconomic sabotage.

It is past time to expose thesepolicies before world opinion andmobilize the peoples of the world tocombat these attacks on thesovereignty of nations. This task is

an urgent responsibility of theprogressive movement world-wide.

Already, mass opposition toexisting U.S. bases and the buildingof new bases and basing agreementsis growing from Poland, the CzechRepublic, to Philippines andEcuador. Each of these separatemovements deserves internationalsupport and solidarity.

All U.S. military presence mustbe removed from Afghanistan, Iraq,Pakistan and from the former SovietRepublics in Central Asia. Theescalating threats of attack on Iranmust end.

Each battle against sanctionsdeserves the same support.International solidarity is the bestweapon against sanctions-enforcedisolation.

Do you want to strengthen theinternational movement for peace, justice and solidarity? Do you wantto help countries defend theirsovereignty? Then take the firststep.

Join the fight against U.S. basesand sanctions!

On the occasion of 32ndMemorial Day of Comrade ShibdasGhosh, an exhibition of a fewinvaluable quotations from hispublished works was inaugurated atMetro channel in Calcutta on 3August by Comrade Ranjit Dhar, veteran member of the West Bengalstate secretariat and Central Staff. In

Exhibition of select quotes from the works of Comrade Shibdas Ghoshhis brief inaugural speech, ComradeDhar said that Comrade Ghosh’swas a life of relentless all-embracing struggle in quest fortruth. He held that pursuit of truthshould not be guided by mechanicaltendencies or blind acceptance ofany subjective interpretation.Science is the only means to unravel

truth. Since dialectical materialismhas developed as a comprehensivescience through proper correlation, integration and generalization of theparticular truths and knowledgeculled from the different branchesof science, it is the only philosophythat can fully open the vista of truthbefore man, seek truth, obtain a

comprehensive understanding of theworld phenomena and correctlyguide life in all its aspects. It is inrealization of this truth that he inorder to bring about the desiredemancipation of the mankind fromall exploitations took upon himselfthe task of building SUCI as thecorrect revolutionary party on thesoil and said : “Simply to speak ofrevolution is no revolutionaryconsciousness. The correctrevolutionary consciousness is thecorrect proletarian classconsciousness and correctproletarian class consciousness isthe correct proletarian partyconsciousness.” Comrade Dharcalled upon all to be dawned uponby the revolutionary teachings ofComrade Ghosh, engage themselvesin pursuit of truth and therebystrengthen the party and revolution.Comrades Anil Sen, Provash Ghoshand Asit Bhattacharya, all centralcommittee members were presenton the occasion.Comrade Ranjit Dhar, veteran member of the WB state secretariat and Central Staff inaugurating the quotation exihibition

Martyrdom Centenary of Shaheed Kshudiram rememberedof Kshudiram weredistributed. An appeal wasmade to all households, educational institutions, clubs, market committeesand associations, tradeunions, to observe themartyrdom day in abefitting manner. Responsewas overwhelming. In theafternoon of 11th August, the Martyrdom day a publicmeeting was held at thefoot of the ShaheedKshudiram statue in frontof Calcutta High court. Two well decorated cycleprocessions from Habibpur, the birthplace ofKshudiram, in Midnapurdistrict and South 24Parganas district afterpassing through differenturban and rural areas forthe last two days convergedat the venue of the meeting

Till his death, he was theresolute torch-bearer of the mostprogressive thoughts of his time, that of leading an uncompromisingstruggle against the imperialist rulerand free his motherland from thetentacle of alien rule. The onlymission of his life was, therefore, toachieve freedom, not by begging orappeasement but by fighting like asoldier, firm in resolve and clear invision. So much identified his selfwas with the mission that heremained calm and unperturbedeven when the noose of the gallowswas clamped on him. That was whatinspired the countrymen at the needof the year. The fire was alreadykindled and it was only the time thattook to spread it all around. ShaheedKshudiram is thus remembered asthe child of fire, a valiant soldier, alegend who sang the song of life atthe pyre of death. He was not just animmortal martyr; he was one of theforemost revolutionaries of his time.

When there is a concertedattempt on the part of the power that

be to take the glorious past to theoblivion, obfuscate the legacy of theglowing characters that stoodimmortal as the epitome ofcherished ideal, valour and values, itwas only but natural that effortswould be made to erase Kshudiramfrom the minds of the countrymen. But the posterity dawned upon bythe ideology befitting the time andseeking to take life to furtherheights inspired by him.

With the above purpose aCommittee for Observation ofCentenary of Martyrdom ofShaheed Kshudiram was formedwith Shubhaprasanna, a notedpainter and sculptor as theChairman. Under the auspices of theCommittee, a series of programmeswere taken to spread the message ofKshudiram. A few lakh photographsof the statue of Shaheed Kshudiramsculptured by Comrade Tapas Dutta, departed leader and centralcommittee member of our party andan artist of reckoning, as well asbadges embossed with the grit face

intellectuals against oppression andinjustice brazenly criticized thequarters of vested interest fordeliberately undermining anddistorting the role of Kshudiram andhis exemplary struggle. He stressedthat while there is a deep-rootedconspiracy to pollute people’s mindand degrade the youth throughincessant injection of consumeristthoughts and vulgarism, promotinga widespread proper cult ofKshudiram that the Committee hastaken upon itself would definitelycatalyze release of a countercurrent. Comrade Provash Ghoshnarrated a few incidents from thelife of Kshudiram to show how evenin such a tender age wasconsciously initiated towards themost respectful mode of life. Herecalled with reverence that it wasComrade Shibdas Ghosh who taughtall how to respect the great men ofthe past like Kshudiram. MamataBanerjee, the Trinamool Congressleader, in her speech thanked theorganizers for inviting her to such abeautiful programme and said thatthe vested interest is working theclock to black out Kshudiram andhis likes. She expressed seriousconcern at that and emphasized thenecessity to fight back theconspiracy spurred by the ideals ofKshudiram, Nazrul and other greatmen. Artist Shubhaprasannapresided over the programme andMiratun Nahar, noted educationistand a forerunner of the intellectualmovement conducted theproceedings of the first half with thepermission of the chair.

SUCI condemns Jammu and Kashmirkillings and calls for appropriatepolitical solution of the problem

Strongly condemning the continuous killings of common peoplemostly due to police firing in Jammu and Kashmir since the last fewdays, Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course ofa statement issued on 15 August firmly opined that while the governmentof Jammu and Kashmir and the Central Government are solelyresponsible for such indiscriminate shooting down of common people, itis also vivid that all other major political parties, BJP and Congressincluded, with elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and LokSabha in view are openly inciting worst form of communalism.

Strongly demanding immediate stoppage of wanton killing by thegovernment and stringent action against all rabid communal forces,Comrade Mukherjee opined that the immediate issue — the controversycentring round the government decision to transfer 40 hectares of forestland to Shree Amarnath Shrine Board--which triggered the presentviolent situation must be resolved through intense discussion amongst allpolitical parties and other contending forces and the government mustconcentrate all its efforts to facilitate such a negotiated settlement of thisburning issue.

Stressing the vital fact that the present conflagration in Jammu andKashmir can not be correctly viewed delinked from the unresolvedKashmir problem, Comrade Mukherjee emphasized that until and unlessthe fear of the Kashmiri people of losing their autonomy as well asidentity and being dispossessed of their rights and land is removed oncefor all, danger of outbreak of such communal conflagration followingraking up of such emotive issues by vested interest will always be there.Reiterating party’s basic stand that restoration of complete autonomy asagreed upon in the Instrument of Accession by Jammu and Kashmir toIndia and enshrined in the Article 370 of the Constitution of Indiaconstitute the basis for bringing about a final and lasting solution of theKashmir problem, Comrade Mukherjee once again urged upon theGovernment of India to completely abjure the path of political andmilitary suppression of Kashmiri people and instead concentrate all itsenergy in finding out a political solution of this issue on the aforesaidline as this is the only way to diffuse even the present volatilesituation.

Kaushik Sen in hiswell articulated speech pointed outthat when crude individualism, self-centeredness and careerism aredevouring the minds of the peopleand polluting the youth, a propercult of the blazing characters likeKshudiram can stem the rot.Comrade Pratibha Mukherjeeshowed that Kshudiram representedthe uncompromising trend of Indianfreedom movement and right fromhis childhood, he proved hiscourage and iron-will. Marxism-Leninism-Shibdas Ghosh Thought Makes SUCI InvincibleGhosh to come forward to dischargeour obligation to revolution.

Comrade Provash Ghosh in hisfervent speech dwelt upon howComrade Shibdas Ghosh, the greatleader of the proletariat inspiredthousands to take up an honourablelife, the life of a revolutionary andtaught to reject the life of the bondedslave that condemns one to abysmalhumiliation. At a very tender age, assoon as he felt in him the burn andhumiliation of foreign domination, atortuous and untiring struggle startedin his life. He joined theuncompromising trend of the Indianfreedom movement. In course oftime, his quest for freedom and truthgerminated in him the realizationthat real emancipation of the people,of mankind from all sorts ofexploitation is possible only withone weapon – the ideology ofMarxism-Leninism. In his life, therewas no gap between realization oftruth and its application. So heembraced Marxism as thephilosophy of life and began thestruggle for remoulding himselfaccordingly. Whileuncompromisingly applying truth inhis life, he came to realize that theundivided CPI had failed to developas a genuine Communist Party. It didnot grow up in the Leninist way.Their leaders could not embraceMarxism as the philosophy of lifeand as a result failed to grasp theeseence of Marxism, the ethics, culture and the methodology ofMarxism-Leninism. Similar was thecase with the other parties whoproclaimed themselves as leftists. Ashe was aware that without a genuineCommunist Party, the real classorgan of the proletariat, emancipation was impossible, hetook upon himself the task ofbuilding SUCI as the genuinerevolutionary party of the proletariatand engaged himself along with hishandful revolutionary compatriots, acomplex difficult painstakingstruggle to fufill the task.

Comrade Provash Ghosh said:Marxism was not just an economictheory, but a live philosophy thatguides in every aspect of life in itsminutest detail. Without such aphilosophy how could arevolutionary mould his entire life? The struggle to build SUCI wasunthinkably difficult at that time.CPI was there with all internationalbacking, there were other partieswith many followers. Undeterred bydoubts expressed by friends,Comrade Shibdas Ghosh, while

abandoned. And if there was truth inwhat he was doing, history surelyone day would recognize its worth.Today, history has recognized thestruggle of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh.SUCI has no MP. Only two MLAs inWest Bengal and one in Orissa. Ourparty is practically blacked out in themedia. Yet SUCI is more and moregripping the mass mind. In WestBengal we are experiencing widerand wider organizational expansion. Our organization has spreadthroughout India. The thoughts of thegreat leader have already reachedmany countries beyond India andstirring the left minded people, communist and other anti-imperialistorganizations. On the other hand, theparties, once big, have either foldedup or lost considerable strength. Many of them including CPI haveundergone multiple splits. Most ofthem including CPI(M), CPI arenow openly seeking refuge in theservitude of the ruling capitalist classfor pelf and power. Comrade ShibdasGhosh’s warning about the CPI(M)that they would bare their fascisticattitude once they are ingovernmental power has nowbecome prophetically true.Nandigram has proved that.

Continuing Comrade ProvashGhosh said: Both the CPI and theCPI(M), it is to be noted, areprojected as true Marxists-Communists by the bourgeoismedia. And it is the same motivatedmedia which is now engaged inmaligning Marxism-Leninism bypointing at the wrongdoings, opportunism, greed for power, corrupt and criminal practices ofthese sham Marxists. Confused bythis incessant propaganda, manyintellectuals and thinking people areturning away from Marxism-Leninism presuming that this is thenature and character of thecommunists. Seeing the double-standard, lowered culture and brutearrogance of these power-hungrypseudo-Marxists, they are led tobelieve in the slanderous campaignof the bourgeois media against thegiant communist leaders. But the

names were Rabindranath Tagore,Saratchandra, Nazrul, Premchand,Netaji Subhas, Bhagat Singh,Bernard Shaw, Albert Einstein,Romaind Rolland and other leadinglights of the bygone days. Netajisaid that the greatest contribution of19th century was Marxism, biggestincident of 20th century was theSoviet Revolution. Rabindranathheld that Soviet Union was like apilgrimage where the toiling masseshave received their due honour. Arewe to conclude that they werestarved of intellect? Once BernardShaw said that in comparison toStalin, Roosevelt and Churchillwere pigmies. Were all this in vain?Today's so-called intellectuals, whopour hatred against Marxism, letthem ponder over this. DiscardingMarxism-Leninism is to disavowtruth, impede the process of logicaldevelopment of the society.

Comrade Provash Ghosh addedthat Marxism is a comprehensivescience, it is universal, it does notbelong to any particular country. Asphysics, chemistry has no nationalbarrier, so also is Marxism. It is , aselaborated by Comrade ShibdasGhosh, is a science of all sciencesdeveloped through the process ofdialectical integration of allparticular truths discovered by thedifferent branches of science. Hadthere been any such philosophy inour soil that could do this, unravelthe truth of life based onexperimented truth and evidence,we would have accepted it. Thosewho claim the Vedas to be supremeon question of ideology and ask todiscard Marxism as a foreignideology should know whatVidyasagar, who was not a Marxistbut a secular humanist, told aboutthe Vedas. He said: Sankhya andVedanta are false systems ofphilosophy. In fact, it is the secularhumanists all over the world whoopposed religious ideas, whoopposed the existence ofsupernatural entity, the idea thatdeveloped only when sciencereached a certain height. Theextension, the continuity of this

current of thought of humanismgave rise to Marxism whenconducive material conditionemerged following newerinventions of science. Marxism is acoordinated science that hasdiscovered the laws operativebehind all phenomena, all changes, all transformations – from thechange of nature to the change ofsociety. This great scientificideology has unfolded the truth thatthe logical culmination of classstruggle in the class divided societyis in the overthrow of theexploitative capitalist system andestablishment of socialism. Fromsocialism, the next stage ofelevation will be communism orclassless society free from allexploitation of man by man. But thesocial progress will not stop at that.It will march onward and forward. This is what we have learnt fromComrade Shibdas Ghosh. Thecommon people appreciate theunassuming nature, courteousbehaviour, honesty and dedicationof our comrades. They admire thehigher cultural tone reflected in theconduct of our workers. What is theorigin of this when a rancid mess iswallowing in mush? It is Marxism-Leninism-Comrade Shibdas Ghoshthought that endows them with this.Comrade Ghosh taught us that thekernel, the living soul of anyphilosophy or any worthy ideologylies in its cultural, ethical andaesthetic standard. Marxism is alofty ideal. Its kernel, the living soulof this noblest revolutionary idealalso is ingrained in its cultural andmoral values. Comrade ShibdasGhosh held that politics calls fornobler feelings of heart and noblerstill is the feeling that spurs on tonobler revolutionary politics. Allthese teachings of Comrade ShibdasGhosh are guiding us under theleadership of Comrade NiharMukherjee, our beloved GeneralSecretary, in carrying out therevolutionary task he hasbequeathed to us.

Referring to the prevailingsituation of West Bengal, ComradeProvash Ghosh said that people arewitnessing how the SUCI has beendeveloping mass movements onevery burning issue of life on theedifice of higher proletarian ethicsand morality braving all odds, facing savage attack from the rulersand their servitors. On the basis ofthe teachings of Comrade ShibdasGhosh, we have been trying toconduct the movements by forming

fact is that the nobilityof Marxism-Leninismand the great historicrole of the Marxistauthorities in auguringa new era in the historyof civilization weregiven due recognitionand extended dueappreciation by all greathumanists of the past.Among these great

people’s committees as instrumentsof struggle. Our appeal to build upPeople’s Committees have beensomewhat successful in Singurwhich marked augury of a newphase in the history of democraticmass movement in the state. But inNandigram, which has become alegendary name today inspiringmillions of the people strugglingagainst injustice and oppression, people’s committees did materializeto provide leadership to the historicresistance movement which turnedinto mass upsurge against thecapitalist-imperialist machination toset up exploitative SpecialEconomic Zone. There we havewitnessed how the CPI(M)government subserving bourgeoisclass interest resorted to fascisticattacks to smash legitimatedemocratic movement. But in theface of organized people’sresistance and assertion of people’spower through people’s committee, the CPI(M) government had toretreat and abandon the proposal. Itis only after the CPI(M) unleashedworst fascistic attack in Nandigramin November last that we extendedour alliance with the TrinamoolCongress hitherto working throughthe people’s committees in Singurand Nandigram, at the state level toresist the CPI(M)'s increasinglydangerous attack on massmovements. From our side, thisalliance is not out of any mereelectoral exigency but necessitatedin the given specific situation tobuild up joint mass movements onthe burning issues of life.

In conclusion, Comrade ProvashGhosh said that the higher ethical-cultural standard, the initiativetowards developing sustainedpeople’s movements, the inspirationto adopt a respectful revolutionarylife process are all derived from onesource — Marxism-Leninism-Comrade Shibdas Ghosh thought. The thoughts of Comrade ShibdasGhosh are not only imbuing thepeople of the land in increasingnumber but are also creating wavesat international level — frommiddle-East to Latin-America,Europe to Africa, USA to Russia. His works are being translated inmany foreign languages. The forcesand organizations building up anti-imperialist struggles areincreasingly attracted to thethoughts of Comrade Ghosh. Incontrast to rotten, vote-based powerpolitics, SUCI , a party reared andsteered by Comrade Shibdas Ghosh,

Contd. from page 8Only Comrade Shibdas Ghosh Thought can unite people

represents a totally different currentin which right-thinking people arepinning their faith and reposingtheir confidence. We as ardentdisciples of Comrade ShibdasGhosh stand committed to thepeople’s cause. This is our oath onFifth of August.

AssamMemorial Day of Comrade

Shibdas Ghosh, the great proletarianleader, was held at Guwahati onAugust 5, 2008 under the auspicesof the Assam State Committee ofSUCI. The big public meeting heldfor the purpose was presided overby Comrade Bhupendra NathKakati, member, Assam StateCommittee. Addressing the meetingas the main speaker, Comrade AsitBhattacharyya, Central Committeemember of the party, said that thishistoric day is observed with a viewto taking pledge to developcultivation and hence realization ofthe invaluable thoughts of ComradeShibdas Ghosh further and toengage ourselves in accelerating thestruggle for emancipation ofexploited toiling people with theestablishment of a society free fromall sorts of exploitation in thecountry, in the way shown byComrade Shibdas Ghosh. It is alsofor this that we evaluate theprevailing national and internationalsituations and try, thereupon, toenunciate the future course andtasks of our struggle.

Comrade Bhattacharyya addedthat right in his days in school,Comrade Ghosh had associatedhimself with the revolutionary trendof the national independencemovement in then Bengal. In courseof this movement, he realized thatninety percent people of the countrywould not be emancipated only withthe independence from the Britishrule. Comrade Ghosh also realizedthat although there had been a partyin the country bearing the name“Communist”, because of itsnonadherence to correct Marxistmethodology and because of itsincorrect formulation of the basepolitical line, it was doomed to turnout to be a petty bourgeoiscompromising force between labourand capital. With these realizationsComrade Shibdas Ghosh engagedhimself, along with his handful ofrevolutionary compatriots, infounding SUCI, the genuinecommunist party in the country.

Characterizing the changes sinceindependence in 1947, ComradeGhosh showed that as Indian

overthrow the capitalists from powerat the stroke of revolution. This goalcannot be attained through elections. It demands a revolutionary struggleand upholding the Leninist teaching,Comrade Ghosh showed that therecannot be a revolution without arevolutionary party and there cannotbe a revolutionary party without arevolutionary theory.

Highlighting some of theteachings of Comrade Ghosh,Comrade Bhattacharyya said thatthe essence of the communistphilosophy propounded by KarlMarx was the realization thatCommunism is humanism minusprivate property. Comrade Ghoshshowed that a genuine revolutionaryparty can never be founded until andunless there develops a band ofrevolutionaries who by conductinga long arduous struggle covering allaspects of life based on communistideology free themselves fromprivate property and privateproperty mental complex. But thosewho had come forward to found CPIin our country in 1920s did not carefor freeing themselves from theprivate property mental complexand instead formed committees inconferences and announced it as acommunist party. Naturally, neitherCPI, nor any of its factions likeCPI(M) or others could ever growas a revolutionary party of theworking class. Rather theydeveloped as petty bourgeoisparties. Today, when these partieshave become part and parcel of thecountry’s bourgeois politicalcombination and are seekingalliance with the known trustedbourgeois parties like Congress andothers for pelf and power, infallibility of Comrade ShibdasGhosh’s analysis and conclusionarrived through concrete applicationof his unique Marxist understandingand methodology way back in 1948,stand vindicated .

Referring to Shibdas Ghoshthoughts on the character of thestruggle that a communist party

process dies down, the party facesthe doom.

In the light of Comrade Ghosh’steachings and basic analysis,Comrade Bhattacharyya alsodiscussed in detail about the burningproblems of the country and ofAssam. He brought out the utterhelplessness of the toiling peopleirrespective of caste-creed-religionand ethnicity, who have become theworst victims of capitalistexploitation. The ruling capitalismis hatching up newer and newerconspiracies to keep people ofAssam, or in other parts of thecountry in total darkness, in totaldisunity and disarray. ComradeBhattacharyya strongly emphasizedthat for doing away with all sorts ofdivisiveness, separatist mentality, allforms of communal feelings, thatare being constantly fomented bythe capitalists and their agents andare wreaking havoc in people’s life, people must forge strongest unityamongst themselves. This is thehistorical task to fulfill, whenpeople confront the offensive of theexploiters, the capitalist rulers. Yet,in such a situation, the CPI-CPI(M)is trying to make people believe that‘there is no alternative tocapitalism’. What can be moretreacherous and deceitful? Hencethere is the cry: What is the wayout? Where have all the high ethicsand morality gone? People mustrealize that Comrade Shibdas Ghoshhas emerged as the livingembodiment of the highest cultureand ethics they are aspiring for. Tocome out of this suffocatingsituation, Comrade Bhattacharyyaadded, people need to developunited and powerful massmovements on the burning problemsof life making it conducive to theanti-capitalist socialist revolution. These mass movements must beconducted on the strength of higherethics and morality. Its fighters, thevolunteers even the participantsmust be made conscious, in the light

Unique life-long struggle made Shibdas Ghosh a great leaderof thoughts of Comrade ShibdasGhosh, as worthy soldiers in thestruggle to thwart communalism andfanatic provincialism, keeping therevolutionary goal of freeingoppressed people from all kinds ofexploitation and oppression alwaysin sight. They must be made awarethat society is shivering from thebirth-pang of revolution, whereSUCI the genuine communist partyfounded by Comrade ShibdasGhosh, the great leader of theproletariat, is to act as the midwife.Comrade Bhattacharyya thus endedwith the appeal to strengthen SUCI.

Delhi5th August, the day the working

class lost its great leader ComradeShibdas Ghosh thirty two yearsback, was observed with profoundemotion in Delhi, the nationalcapital. A public meeting wasorganized by the Delhi StateOrganizing Committee of the SUCIat Gandhi Peace Foundation.Comrade Krishna Chakraborti, member, Central Committee, SUCI,was the main speaker. The meetingwas presided over by ComradePran Sharma. Comrade PratapSamal, Secretary, DSOC also spokeon the occasion.

In his address Comrade KrishnaChakraborti said that the arduous andvery different exemplary lifestruggle of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh, made him a great leader of theproletariat. It is necessary for us toknow the process in which thisstruggle was conducted and throughwhich he established this party of theproletariat in our country, is. It is notonly inspiring but educative as well.If we do not grasp his thoughts, armourselves with Marxism-Leninism-Shibdas Ghosh Thought, deeply, wewill acquire the ability to move onour own. So we must understand theimplication of the struggle throughwhich Comrade Shibdas Ghoshalogwith his handful comrades-in-arms built up the party. We mustkeep that struggle living whilekeeping pace with the changingsituation. We must advance. This iswhat Comrade Nihar Mukherjee, ourbeloved leader and the GeneralSecretary of our party, has beenemphasizing on while calling uponus to release a struggle forrevitalization and consolidation. It isabsolutely imperative. ComradeGhosh himself told once and oftenthat everything is in the process ofcontinuous change; thinking ischanging; society is changing. Contd. on page 11

based on dialectical methodology, they can develop a generalizedconcept of truth thereby enrichingknowledge. The thoughts ofComrade Shibdas Ghosh that arebeing carried by Comrade NiharMukherjee must be carried forwardby us. If we do not develop ourselvesas worthy of that task, it will befutile to know the life struggle ofComrade Shibdas Ghosh. That iswhy, we must thoroughly understandand grasp Comrade Shibdas Ghosh’sthoughts.

Elaborating on the struggle andcontributions of Comrade ShibdasGhosh, Comrade Chakrabortishowed how Comrade Ghosh, alongwith a few revolutionarycompatriots, shouldered the historicresponsibility of founding SUCI asthe only genuine revolutionary partyon the Indian soil, on 24th April,1948, through painstaking andrelentless struggle. ComradeShibdas Ghosh had been in theuncompromising trend of thenational independence movementwhen he was in his teens. While inBritish Jail, he realized that thetransfer of political power from theBritish rulers to the Indian natiobnalbourgeoisie whose interest wasbeing represented by thecompromising Gandhian leadershipwould not bring about the desiredemancipation of the toiling millions.Through an in depth study ofMarxism-Leninism, ComradeGhosh came to realize andenunciated that independent India,to be truly liberated, needed anotherrevolution — the anti-capitalistsocialist revolution.

Grasping the Leninist teachingthat there can be no revolutionwithout a revolutionary theory anda revolutionary party with requiredstrength, Comrade Shibdas Ghoshbuilt up SUCI as the genuinecommunist party on the soil basedon the Leninist prnciples of partyformation. In course of that struggleComrade Ghosh devoted himself toand identified his whole life withthe cause of working class,

revolutionary party of the proletariat. It is incarnate in the struggle throughwhich our party has been built.Today, also in our interactions withthe comrades as well as the massesover various problems of life, wethrough that process reachuniformity of thinking. When weexamine from a Marxist view, wereach uniformity in concluding thatIndia is a capitalist state. Uniformityis also reflected in acnowledgingnecessity of revolution. When we saythat our task is to overthrow thebourgeoisie from power, we reflectsingleness of purpose. ComradeShibdas Ghosh has shown forbuilding and conducting arevolutionary party, uniformity inapproach is to be developed on thebasis of Marxism-Leninism. Oneprocess of thinking is to be createdin the entire party. When theworking class, led by their classparty, asserts itself on the basis ofthis singleness of purpose, itbecomes irrestitible. Whilesuccessfully accomplishingrevolutions in the countries likeSoviet Union, or China, the workingclass there had but one invincibleweapon--the revolutionary classparty. Elaborating on that , ComradeShibdas Ghosh had shown that suchparty ought to develop a uniformityof thinking, one process of thinkingand singleness of purpose based onstruggle to arrive at the truth. Oncethe truth unfolds, the single aimbecomes to strive for building uprevolutionary movement involvingthe party and the toiling people toacquire necessary power tooverthrow the exploiting rulers fromthe state power by revolution.

Today, said ComradeChakraborti, anti-people policies ofglobalization adopted by the worldcapitalism-imperialism with a viewto coming out of the intenseeconomical crisis it is enmeshed in,are tearing apart the commonpeople’s life. Indian capitalism isalso through pursuit of glabalizationis creating acute unemployment, triggering price rise, loss of income

and abject poverty . The attacks onpeople are coming not only in theeconomic sphere but also inpolitical, social and cultural spheres. He then proceeded to explain how,in course of its development andconsolidation since independence,Indian capitalism has assumed theimperialist character. The Indianmonopolists are now competingwith monopolists of other countries, buyingg industries abroad at hugecosts and thereby earning placesamong the richest of the world. Healso showed how today the CPM,CPI etc are day by day becomingthe implementers of the policy ofglobalization including setting uphighly anti-people SEZ etc.surpassing even the trustedbourgeois parties.

In such a situation, it isnecessary to strengthen the SUCI atthe grass roots level. ComradeChakraborti further showed that, intent upon freeing the worldcommunist movement from itsshortcomings and weaknesses,Comrade Ghosh made pricelesscontributions to the treasure houseof Marxism-Leninism. His warningsabout possible degeneration of theSoviet state into a capitalist statedue to revisionist conspiracy havebeen corroborated by the debacle ofsocialism in different countries. Also, equipped with his teachings, our party is set today in building upresistance movements againstimperialist aggression in differentcountries of the world by forgingunity with other communist partiesand anti-imperialist forces of theworld. He concluded his speech byappealing to the activists andsupporters to renew their pledge tomake SUCI stronger and to carryforward the tasks Comrade Ghoshhad bequeathed to them.

Comrade Krishna Chakrabortialso addressed the MemorialMeeting at Rohtak, Haryanapresided over by Comrade AnupSingh, Secretary, Rohtak DistrictCommittee and also addressed byComrade Satyawan, State Secretary,Haryana.

Floral tributes to thedeparted great proletarian leaderwere also paid by Comrade HemChakraborty, the SUCI JharkhandState Secretary, Comrade MoloyBose on behalf of the Study Centre,Comrade Ranjit Modak, SinghbhumDistrict Secretary SUCI. ComradeHem Chakraborty also presidedover the Memorial Meeting held inthe afternoon at the Study Centre.

Comrade Ranjit Dhar, the mainspeaker of the Memorial Meetingreiterated once more that ComradeShibdas Ghosh Memorial Daystands out to the entire masses oftoiling people as a day of profoundgrief as well as of taking pledgeafresh. People like us who claimthemselves as students of ComradeShibdas Ghosh put ourselves beforethe question : How far each of ushas adavnced to realize the dreamof anti-capitalist socialistrevolution, with which we onceassociated ourselves with this party.Comrade Dhar added that thecapitalist economy is now engulfedin acute crisis. Industries are closingdown; employment has vanishedinto thin air; youth of the countryare gasping under limitlessunemployment; farmers are takingtheir own life pressed undermounting debt; education and healthfacilities are receding out of reach;even a smallest abode seemsalluring. On the other hand, culture-ethics-morality are reaching theirebb; families are crumbling downwith human relations therein beingweighed on give-and-take relations. It is the capitalist system only that isresponsible for this crisis inmorality as well. And it is thereason, why the political parties, forces and leaders whoever maytake to serve the interests of thiscapitalism, cannot but be swampedby corruption and valuelessness.Comrade Shibdas Ghosh hadshown, Comrade Dhar said further, that howsoever different may be the

colours of the banners, there areonly two kinds, two faces ofpolitics. It may be either therevolutionary poltics or thecvounter-revolutionary one. It isalso to be noted that there may beonly one genuine revolutionaryparty of the working class in acountry. On the other side, in thecapitalist society based upon privateownership, as there is always amutual competition and conflictamong the private owners to extendtheir dominance over the market, centring round this, there exist anumber of bourgeois pettybourgeois parties. In our country allthese parties, be it the nationalparties like Congress or BJP or theregional outfits like AGP, TeluguDesham or Jharkhand MuktiMorcha, they are all parties to servethe interests of the owners, thecapitalists. In no way, they arerelated to well being of commonpeople. The JMM led by Sibu Sorenonce tried to make people believethat founding a Jharkhand statewould solve their problems. Butsince this state of Jharkhand wasborn, it is only the monopolists likethe Tatas and the political leaderssubservient to them, who have beenbenefited most. The leaders havenow gained a luxurious life-style,with foreign cars and otheramenities. Common people, in theirturn, are only suffocating underexploitation.

Comrade Dhar pointed out thatthe confidence motion in the

Parliament held a few days back, have clearly demonstrated to whatdepth corruption has eaten into thepolitics of bourgeois parties. Peoplehave also come to find out thedeception lying behind the strongwords of CPI(M)-CPI against theNuclear deal. UPA had beendiscussing on this deal for the lastthree years. Why did not CPI(M)

on the strength of the thoughts ofComrade Shibdas Ghosh. On thisShibdas Ghosh Memorial Day wemust take pledge to intensify thisstruggle consciously.

Comrade Shibdas Ghosh desiredto build up SUCI as a different kindof revolutionary party. The hard, arduous life-long struggle he wentthrough, took its toll on his health. He became extremely sick. But evenwith his failing health, till his lastdays, he emphasized that those whowould fight to change the capitalistsociety, must first changethemselves, must acquire the loftyproletarian culture-ethics andmorality freeing themselves inevery walk of life from theinfluence of capitalist culture. Themodel of that lofty communistcharacter he has left for us in theexample of his own life- struggle.

Memorial Day was observed onAugust 6, 2008 at Vadodara.Comrade Chhaya Mukherjee,Central leader of SUCI was presentin the meeting as the main speaker.Comrade Bharat Mehta, member ofGujarat state organizing committeepresided over. Comrade ChhayaMukherjee dwelt upon the life andstruggle of the great leader of theproletariat, Comrade Shibdas Ghosh,to build up SUCI, the only genuinecommunist party of India after hehad realized in jail in 1942 that CPIhad never developed as a genuinecommunist party and so there wasthe necessity of building up agenuine communist party. ComradeMukherjee further criticized UPAgovernment at the Centre forpursuing anti-people, pro-imperialistpolicies of globalization andliberalization, thus standing

ing burdens on people with theiranti-people policies?

Comrade Ranjit Dharemphatically laid that the entiresituation of the country isdeamnding a change, an overthrowof capitalism. Those who will stepahead to bear the nobleresponsibility of developing intoleaders and organizers of this anti-capitalist revolution, must passthrough scores of tests. First of thesetests must be to their own selves. Inthis age of decadent capitalism, individualism has turned into itsworst shape. It entails: we can comeout of our family, can give up ourcareer for the sake of revolution, butcannot do away with my ego. I amaggrieved whenever it goes againstmy liking. Then I cannot accept myleader’s views. I donot mean that theparty leadership can never do wrong. But, there is a definite concreteprocess of how to rid leadership ofmistakes. If we do not go by thatprocess, it harms both our party andourselves. We can free ourselvesfrom these individualistic trends, only through the struggle ofidentifying ourselves with therevolution and revolutionary party

Observe 20th August All India General Strike

SUCI condemns planting ofnuclear-powered espionage

device in the Himalayas by CIAComrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course of a

statement issued on 5th August, 2008 expressed grave concern at therevelation that way back in 1965 one Robert Schaller, an amateurmountaineer and hospital doctor was commissioned by the CIA tosecretly plant a nuclear-powered radioactive bugging device on theHimalayan peaks to spy on the then socialist China. Stronglycondemning this heinous act, Comrade Mukherjee stated that this onceagain lays bare how this notorious espionage wing of the US imperialistregime has been carrying out nefarious seditious activities round theglobe brazenly violating all international laws and conventions. TheSchaller episode, added Comrade Mukherjee, also brings to the fore howIndia is also being covered under the spy network of the CIA which alsoposes serious threat to her internal security as well as exposes theIndians to serious nuclear hazard. Comrade Mukherjee, therefore, calledupon the freedom-loving people of the world to strongly denounce suchnoxious acts of the US imperialists and build up powerful anti-imperialist particularly anti-US imperialist movement round the globe toforce the US imperialists desist from indulging in such sinistermachinations.

SUCI expresses grave concernat the continuing Indo-US joint

military exerciseComrade Nihar Mukherjee, General Secretary, SUCI, in course of a

statement issued on 12 August, 2008 expressed grave concern at thereported Indo-US joint military exercises being conducted at the Nellisair force base in Nevada in US, and Vairengte in Mizoram in India. The50 odd such joint exercises comprising naval, air and ground forces heldsince 2001 show that the ruling Indian monopolists aspiring to emergeas a superpower in the global arena besides collaborating economicallyand politically as a rising imperialist power with the war-monger USimperialist brigands, have also been teaming up with them militarily, said Comrade Mukherjee. This connivance of the ruling Indianmonopolists with US imperialism, the worst enemy of the mankind today poses serious threat not only to the internal security of India but also tothe entire Asian region where US imperialist rulers are desperately tryingto strengthen their stranglehold through flexing of military muscle bypartnering with India, warned Comrade Mukherjee. Comrade Mukherjeealso pointed out that though the CPI (M) and its allies are nowpretending to be champions of anti-imperialism for petty vote interest, itwere they who instead of making any efforts whatsoever to developpowerful anti-imperialist movement with a view to frustrating theattempt of the Indian ruling class to join hands with the US imperialistrulers, have over the years acquiesced in every move of the presentCongress-led UPA government as well as erstwhile BJP-led NDAgovernment subserving bourgeois class interest to undertake such jointmilitary drills and even allowed such an aerial exercise to be held inKalaikunda in West Bengal, the state they are in power for the last 32years to satisfy national bourgeois and U.S. imperialist.

Comrade Mukherjee called upon the right-thinking people of thecountry to rise in protest and compel the government under pressure ofcountrywide massive anti-imperialist movement to immediately stopsuch joint military exercises. Comrade Mukherjee also made a ferventappeal to the toiling people of US to comprehend the dangerous importof such exercises and build up strong movement in their country as wellto stall the same.

Memorial Day observed with resolveresponsible for the severe price hikewhich is ruining people’s lifethroughout the country. ComradeChhaya Mukherjee also said that theruling capitalist class is hell bentupon breaking the moral backboneof students and youth with unbridledsupply of drugs, liquor, obscenepornographic material throughmedia and thus trying to restrict themfrom joining movement against thegovernment. In such a situation, thereal tribute to the great departedleader would be to unleash intensemovement against the capitalist rule, making it conducive to thepreparation of socialist revolution. Also spoke was ComradeDwarikanath Rath, state in-charge ofthe party.

PatnaThe Bihar State Committee of

the party organized memorialmeeting at the IMA Hall in Patna on5th August under the presidentshipof Comrade Shivsankar, Secretary,Bihar State Committee of the party. The main speaker in the meetingComrade Rabin Samajpati, member,Jharkhand State OrganizingCommittee, said: Spiralling price-rise, burgeoning unemployment, cultural degradation, etc.,are allconcommitant curse of the capitalistsystem. People can get rid of allthese evils only through anti-capitalist socialist revolution alongthe path as taught by the greatdeparted leader Comrade ShibdasGhosh. To befool the people,capitalism-imperialism today israising the bogey of‘industrialization’. So-called leftistparties like the CPI(M)-CPI alsohave taken part in this conspiracy. He urged upon people to foil thisconspiracy by building upcountrywide mass movement underthe leadership of the SUCI,established and developed byComrade Shibndas Ghosh in aLeninist model as the only genuineworking class party.

Comrade Shivsankar vehementlythrashed the imperialist aggressionled by the US imperialists andpointed out that the Indian rulershave now became a partner of US-led world imperialist system.Continuing, he said: In India,

revolutionary situation is maturedenough but a revolutionary partywith adequate strength is necessaryto lead the revolution. He urged uponthe people to come forward torepidly strengthen the SUCI for thatpurpose.
