*Practicing is Daily! 30-45 minutes
*There were several instruments left in the orchestra room on Friday afternoon. NO INSTRUMENTS SHOULD BE LEFT, particularly on a weekend. Weekends are prime practice time! Please
encourage daily practice.
*All KBMS Fine Arts students were engaged in a “concert etiquette” lesson on Friday. Attached is the pre-assessment. See how you do!
*Please purchase a 1-inch Black binder for your child. I’m finding
individual pages left behind. Most of the Orchestra 2/3 class have one already, thank you!
*Orchestra 2/3 class, please purchase an Essential Elements Book 3. We begin work in this book on Monday.
*The Fine Arts Parent meeting has been postponed until Literacy
Night, Thursday, November 8 (5:30-6PM).
*All cello students had a lesson with Dr. Daniel Strawser on October 22. They worked on left and right hand techniques.
*Ms. Jessica Munson from the MSO provided violin students with a lesson as well on October 18. She will return this week on Thursday
to work with the students again.
*Advanced orchestra students will be performing at Ikea in the restaurant area on November 10 from 1-2:30 PM. It’s a Mega Event
weekend at Ikea, come for a look around and a concert! :D
*Please sign and return all Field Trip forms by November 9.

Concert Etiquette True or False!
Read and discuss the fol lowing with others in your small group and be prepared to expla in your answers .

It is ok to talk to your neighbor(s) during a
concert.
Whispering is acceptable and not annoying
to others.
Singing and tapping fingers or feet is not
acceptable during a choir, band or
orchestra concert.
Singing and tapping fingers or feet is not
acceptable during a rock, pop, R&B
concert.
It is ok to eat food, gum or candy, or drink
beverages during a concert (choir, band,
orchestra, drama).
When you are finished with the concert,
you should leave your program behind on
the floor. Someone else will pick it up and
throw it away.
You should bring a backpack/purse with
you to the concert and dig around in it
during the performance.
It is not ok to sigh with boredom during the
concert.
You should only offer polite applause when
the conductor turns around, after a song.
It is ok to whoop and holler and call to
friends on stage after a song or at the
conclusion of a concert.
I should be able to behave however I want
during a concert. If my behavior is
embarrassing to my teacher or parent or
reflects poorly on my school or family, that
is not my problem. People should get over
it.
If you are playing with a fidget spinner or
other toy during a concert, you may be
distracting people sitting next to you or
around you.
If you’ve never been to a certain kind of
concert performance, it’s important to
attend with a positive attitude and not
assume that you will hate it.
Playing with your cell phone during a
concert can be distracting to others, just
like at the movies.
Flash photography can be distracting to
performers on stage.
If you perform early in the concert, it is ok
to leave the concert when your portion is
finished.
It is ok to go in and out of the auditorium
during a song.
It is considerate to make everyone in your
row move out of the way if you want to get
up and exit and reenter the auditorium
during the concert.
It is not ok to slouch in your seat, sleep on
your friend’s shoulder or put your feet up
on the seat(s) in front of you in the
auditorium.
