THOMAS O’CONNOR, Music Director

“It has been a pleasure to witness the [Pro Musica] orchestra’s

steady improvement over the years to a point of admirable

mastery. Thomas O’Connor, its music director, put together

a program that was anything but ordinary–one, in fact, that

challenged the audience as well as the musicians.”

(James Keller, Pasatiempo, 2018)

RUTH REINHARDT

“Few artistic experiences are as exciting as witnessing a

brilliant debut by a young musician. It happened… when

Ruth Reinhardt, Assistant Conductor of the Dallas Symphony

Orchestra, led authoritative and musically sophisticated

performances of a program she wasn’t even supposed to

conduct.” (Scott Cantrell, Dallas News, 2016)

ERIC JACOBSEN

Hailed as “an interpretive dynamo” (The New York Times)

and credited with helping to ensure “the future of classical

music in America” (Los Angeles Times), Eric Jacobsen has

built a reputation for engaging audiences with innovative

and collaborative programming.

LINA GONZALEZ-GRANADOS

“The standouts for me were… Lina Gonzalez-Granados who

had that extra bit of authority, with lots of eye contact with

the orchestra and gestures highly specific and expressive.”

(Scott Cantrell, Dallas News, 2017)

GEMMA NEW

“Gemma New proved an outstanding presence at Friday

night’s concert … confident and fully in command, leading

the musicians with an incisive yet flexible beat, and attentive

to details as well as the broader sweep.” (Lawrence A. Johnson,

Chicago Classical Review, 2017)

LENSIC PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

SANTA FE PRO MUSICA believes that a vibrant performing arts community depends on the principles of excellence, inclusion, outreach and new voices. The launch of WOMEN OF DISTINCTION establishes Pro Musica as an innovative leader in these areas. This initiative is an outgrowth of our WOMEN COMPOSERS

PROJECT and focuses on presenting some of classical music’s most under-represented voices: women conductors and composers. With this focus in mind, for the 2018-19 season Pro Musica is excited to present composers Sally Beamish and Jessie Montgomery, and conductors Lina Gonzalez-Granados, Gemma New and Ruth Reinhardt.

Please join us for a keynote address by Jane Chu, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, who will speak about the state of the arts in the United States. Following the address, she will be joined by Music Director Thomas O’Connor, and educator and oral historian Dr. Mi’Jan Celie Tho-Biaz in a conversation on women in the arts.
