"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts
with praise. Be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For
the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth
endures to all generations." (Psalm 100:4-5)
By now I would think you have started to rake the leaves and also started
your snow blowers to make certain they’re ready as winter approaches this
year. And if these tasks don’t apply to your situation, you will certainly bring
out of storage your sweaters, coats and boots.
The month of November is a great festive time in the history of America as we
celebrate Thanksgiving. It is the time for all of us to be united together once
again as a family to give thanks to the Lord for all the bountiful blessings,
protection and provision we have received in our personal and communal lives.
As members of the Orchard Park United Methodist Church family, we are
thankful for God’s guidance as we move forward seeking various possibilities
to enrich and renew our commitment and dedication to become a vital
congregation. We are called “to enter into the gates with thanksgiving, and
into his courts with praise.” As we receive the mercy and goodness of the
Lord from generation to generation, let us continue to “be thankful to God
and bless God’s name.”
“All Saints Sunday” is observed on November 4th of this month. We will have
an opportunity during the service of worship to honor and give thanks for the
lives of those members who have died since we last had the occasion to
celebrate this day. In this time of honoring and remembering, I ask that we
pray for peace and comfort for all the families who are suffering from the loss
of dear ones.
This is a time for us to share our blessings with our creator and to commit
ourselves to the fullness of life in Christ. Apostle Paul in Colossians 2:6-7 says,
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your
lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you
were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Come let us count our blessings and
bring out the choicest things from our lives to be offered to God.
On Sunday, November 11, we are called to remember and honor all the men
and women who have served and continue to serve our country and
particularly to pray for those in uniform stationed outside the country and are
not able to be with their families during this thanksgiving season. Let us also
pray for all those who are living alone and not having any family fellowship
during this time of the year. Continued on next page...

Sundays in
November 11
"Like good stewards of the manifold of grace of God, serve one another
with whatever gift each has received."
1 Peter 4:10
Our theme for this year’s stewardship
campaign is “Step Up to the Plate”.
The phrase “Step Up to the Plate” is a
term from baseball, which should be
of no surprise to any of us. The next batter to hit steps up
to "home plate" where he/she prepares to receive the ball
thrown by the pitcher. So the metaphor means to get ready
to take responsibility to take action.
Estimate of Giving (pledge) cards will be distributed on
Sunday, November 4, at worship and also mailed out to
those who are unable to be present that day. It is our hope
and prayer that you will be present and ready to share what
you are willing to commit to the ministries and mission of
Orchard Park UMC on Consecration Sunday, November 11.
“Thank You” for your continuing faithfulness in the manner
that you have supported the ministries of our church for
the building of the Kingdom of God.
-Pastor Jay
Also, on Sunday November 11, we will be given the
opportunity to bring before God our commitment of
financial support as an act of thankfulness for God’s
provision and to demonstrate our thankfulness for the
ministries of the church that seek to respond to Jesus’
command to feed the hungry, provide shelter to the
homeless, comfort the sick and grief stricken, and to make
disciples for the purpose of transforming the world.
I could add so much more for which we are to be thankful
and every year we can keep adding to the list.
May we continue to honor God as we come together for
worship, fellowship and service.

At OPUMC, you can do it with flowers

Just choose the date you’d like to take
home the altar flowers and sign up on

The completed pink slip goes on the
desk in the office and your $12
payment goes in the UMW mail slot.
Note: Arrangements will not be
available to order when Poinsettias
adorn the altar.
Celebrating 50 years together! Art & Phyllis Cooper

The Fragrance of God
A certain fragrance fills the air as summer turns to Fall.
It takes me back to yesteryears and times I still recall.
The crispness of an evening walk as days begin to wane.
Preparing for a brand-new year and giving thanks again.
For holidays just up ahead, what will these moments hold?
We pray for peace upon our land and joy within our souls.
The memories embrace my heart as seasons come and go.
Thank You, Father, for each day that You alone bestow.
~Jill Lemming
