Approach

Kastech uses a phased approach beginning with knowledge transfer. Our team works closely with clientSMEs to analyze, document and understand the business & technical aspects of their JDE environment.

In the transition phase, responsibilities changes hands in two steps. The first step, Kastech team learns fromthe client resources by “shadowing” them during the production support activities. In the second stepKastech team provides primary support while client resources “reverse-shadowed” , providing support onlywhen needed.

During the “steady state” phase Kastech provides development support & testing for break fix &enhancements.

The five-staged transition approach

The five stages of the transition are depicted in Figure below.

Transition preparation: in this stage the transition project will be prepared and planned.

Knowledge acquisition and knowledge transfer: in this stage the Kastech team comes over to the onshore

location and a group of technical experts collect the knowledge that is in scope for the offshore team.

Shadow Support: in this stage the Kastech team starts with shadow support on the onshore location, to ensure

and prove that the knowledge is gained.

Assisted Perform: Kastech team starts to take over the activities of the onshore employees back in the offshore

location.

Primary Support: Kastech is completely responsible for the activities in scope of the offshore. The first three

months are the stabilization stage.

JDE Development Life Cycle Overview

JDE Enterprise One is setup with multiple environments, with some of them being:

PS – PristineDV – DevelopmentPY – PrototypePD – Production

This setup enables the use of a developmental life cycle to control what objects are released into production. Therefore, the objects in production are usually different when compared to the others.

This is usually because a customized business process requires a change. Then, the standard objects (APPL, UBE etc.,) are then retrofitted to meet the business needs.

Furthermore, custom reports and applications are also developed based on standard reports provided by Oracle. In both cases, when you need to identify what changes have occurred, Event Rules Compare is a handy tool that can be used to note the differences between the objects.
