Beauty goes beyond the measure of aestheticsIt encompasses both the physical and emotional contents of
a given object. In architecture, beauty is not simply what can
be seen or perceived; it is something that provokes the mind,
engages the soul and the body. For such beauty to truly exist,
the architect must go beyond superfcial aesthetics and actively
engage users with the built environment they occupy. I believe
every building that I create should respect its context, touch its
users, and strive toward true beauty.

Contextually, the site is blocked rom thestreet by a ence o tall trees, making it hard
or people to know where it is located
Te site is located at a rather picturesquelocation with green edges and water way. However, because o tall trees, it does have
problems concerning visibility.
With the trees blocking the view into the siterom the street, the site is actually the breed-ing ground o drug scene, prostitution prob-
lems, and other criminal activities.
Te building has a series o sun-shades keeping the southside nicelyshaded. Second oor juts over the
water engaging the landsccape.
Te main objective or this particular project is to create a youth center that would so-cially and aesthetically reinvigorate a airly historic site located in Springeld Oregon.Te ground oor o the building houses a double-height warehouse with administrativeoces, a lobby area that has good view o the 40 oot tall rock climbing wall. Tere is also
a wood patio that allows visitors to enjoy the side at its natural condition.
Te building is composed o 2 highly active acades engaging people to what is happen-ing on both sides o the site: the creek and the street. Te idea o layering materials is alsoincorporated thoroughly through out the project in hopes o creating a canopy-like eel orthe building Troughout the design I intended to emphasize the duality between rootedness
(ground oor) and lightness (1st oor)

My inspiration or this project is a tree and my goal is to create a building that would not only be unctional but also be able to respond/reect changes o the context seasonally and socially. Te ground oor symbolizes the rootedness with the presence o administrativeunction and reception area. Tey help providing more surveillance to not only the building but also the site. Te 1st oor represents
the lightness with the presence o cantilevering elements housing miscellaneous educational and social activities.

Windchime Tea ShopQun Tr Chung Gi
Project Description
I was commissioned renovate an old residential building (320 square meter) into a tea shop. Tis tea shop, though conceptually modeled afer one o my avorite tea shop in Portland calledea, Chai, e, is located in Saigon Vietnam. Because o the lack o time as well as nancial constraints, I kept the design or the most part simple yet sophisticated and unique. Te building isdivided by two main programmatic elements: the tea room and the service. I introduced a series o arches into the two oor o the building providing a much more contracted and homey eelto the shop. Up on second oor, there are book nooks that allow or private conversation to take place.

Catalyst Foundation Housing PrototypeWork in progress
Project Description
I was rst exposed to this project at the UNAVSA (Union o North American Vietnamese Student Associations) conerence where I represented the Vietnamese Student Association at theUniversity o Oregon as the newly-elected co-director. Tough presented tenously, this particular project caught my attention or the potentials it possesses. I approached Caroline Parker, theexecutive director o the Catalyst Foundation, and expressed my interest in pushing this project orward. Initially, the organization estimated the cost or each prototype close to $5000, which inmy opinion was a bit too expensive to build a simple brick and mortar home. I proposed to Caroline my design which is composed o mainly a recycled wood structure with bamboo shading.
She then brought the my idea back to Kien Giang and presented to the ethnically Khmer Vietnamese community as well as some local construction businesses. Te design was well-receivedand later estimated to be built with $2500 at most. Te work I am presenting in this portolio is a snippet o the preliminary design that Caroline took with her back to Vietnam.

Te site on which the prototype sits is arice paddy eld that has a water tableo 3 meters. As a response to such high
