Barr Memorial Library’s 2012 Authors at Your Library series kicks off Thursday, April 26, at 6:30 PM with Ann H. Gabhart, the bestselling author of Angel Sister, The Outsider, The Believer, The Seeker and The Blessed. Her newest novel, Words Spoken True, is set against the political unrest of 1850’s Louisville.
The Scent of Lilacs, was selected in 2006 as one of Booklist magazine’s Top Ten Books in Christian Fiction in 2006. Her popular series focusing on the Shakers began with The Outsiderfor Christian Fiction Book of the Year in 2009.
The focus remains on the 19th Century with the appearance on May 17 at 6:30 PM of Christopher Kolakowski, Director of the General George S. Patton Museum of Leadership. Kolakowski will discuss his book The Stones River and Tullahoma Campaigns: This Army Does Not Retreat, which focuses on two key Civil War campaigns in Tennessee. While Stones River and Tullahoma are not as well known as other campaigns, Kolakowski outlines why those battles produced major implications for the outcome of the war. Kolakowski, also the author of The Civil War at Perryville: Battling for the Bluegrass, has written and spoken on the Civil War, American Revolution, Napoleonic Wars and the wars of the twentieth century.
Maggie Green, author of The Kentucky Fresh Cookbook, will speak on June 7, 6:30 PM, about her book and seasonal Kentucky foods. Those interested in mysteries will not want to miss Bill Noel, author of the Folly Beach mysteries, on July 19 at 6:30 PM. Historian Ron Elliott will speak on August 23 at 6:30 PM about the life of Kentuckian Franklin Sousely, whose story is recounted in From Hilltop to Mountaintop: The Life & Legacy of One Iwo Jima Flag Raiser.
Young Adult Author Kelly Creagh returns to Fort Knox on September 13 at 6:30 PM to discuss Enshadowed, the sequel to her popular debut novel Nevermore.
The 2012 series will conclude with an appearance by New York Times Bestselling Author Steve Berry. Berry, the author of the forthcoming The Columbus Affair, will appear at Fort Knox on September 26 and discuss his work, which includes a popular series focusing on former federal agent turned book dealer, Cotton Malone.
The authors will speak and then sign their books for audience members. A limited number of copies of each author’s works will be available for sale at the event.
