Helping our Yukoners 55+ stay informed, connected and engaged.

“Lifelong learning is like a

health club for your brain.”

The Learning for Life Program provides informative, engaging learning

opportunities for Yukoners aged 55+. From fall to spring, Yukon

Council on Aging (YCOA) offers a series of themed learning events.

Opportunities for lively conversation about current events, politics or

philosophy are integrated into the Learning for Life Program.

Each year YCOA’s Steering Committee identifies events that are

of interest to Yukon’s older adults. Learning Events range from

workshops and classes to engaging discussion groups and

informative presentations. Learning events are offered under

five themes:

• Aging Well at Home • Health and Aging • Travelling as an Older

Adult • Legal Concerns and Aging • Topics for Lively Conversation

Learning events are offered during the day to suit those who

are retired and during the evening to accommodate those

who are still employed. Adults register and pay a $5 fee per

learning event. Although a YCOA membership is not required,

an annual membership for $10 is appreciated and helps to

support the Program.

Partner RecognitionThe Learning for Life Program will be successful because of community partners! However, a

partnership is about mutual benefit. in exchange for your contribution, whether in-kind or cash

dollar amounts, YCOA will recognize your support on an annual basis as shown below.

Quality of life is improved when older adults have access to lifelong learning opportunities.

Studies show a correlation between ongoing learning and choosing employment later in life.

Older adults who stay informed, connected, and engaged, are more likely to maintain their

health and live independently. Many of these older adults are our family and neighbours.

They are participants in our recreation programs, volunteers at our community events, and

consumers who support our local economy.

Partners are integral to the Learning for Life Program. Our presenters are volunteers who

recognize the value of sharing their knowledge and expertise. However, each Learning Event

still costs YCOA almost $1,000 to deliver. As funding is limited, we rely on the generosity of

community partners and funders to help with program expenses. Your contribution as a

Program Partner is greatly valued by YCOA, our older adults, and our community. You can help

make a difference.

Partners support the Program through in-kind donations or cash contributions. As a partner,

you choose how you want to, and how much you can, contribute. You may provide a venue or

healthy snacks for one or more Learning Events. Your expertise and interest may encourage

you to present a Learning Event. You may donate a gift for our volunteer presenters or a gift

card as a door prize for program participants. Or, you may choose a cash contribution that

YCOA can use to cover program expenses.
