Oficiul poștal din peștera Postojna / Postojnska Jama /
Adelsberger Grotte / Postumia, din Slovenia, provincia Carniola, a
fost construit la sfârșitul secolului XIX (1899-1900) în contextul
atmosferei pline de emulație în jurul celebrării sfârșitului de
secol, fiind inaugurat în jurul datei de 15 August 1900 cu titlul
de oficiu poștal turistic al poștei imperiale. Oficiul a funcționat
cca 7 ani și s-a bucurat de mare succes; o zi normală de
funcționare însemna prelucrarea a 6.000 - 10.000 de cărți poștale,
dar au existat zile în care s-au prelucrat chiar și 50.000 de
trimiteri. In ultima zi de serviciu, numărul acestora a fost de ca.
75.000 bucăți prelucrate în cursul celor opt ore de funcționare. În
timpul primului război mondial, acest oficiu a fost inclus, pentru
o perioadă de timp, în structura poștei militare, în cadrul OPM 81
(ca oficiu poștal militar de etapă). Ștampilele speciale utilizate
pentru scurt timp reflectă caracterul său originar de oficiu poștal
turistic. Ele au avut mai degrabă caracter festiv decât de
utilitate militară, dar rămân unele dintre cele mai rare,
interesante și atrăgătoare ștampile de poștă militară K.u.k.
The post office in the cave of Postojna / Postojnska Jama /
Adelsberger Grotte / Postumia, in Slovenia, province Carniola, was
established at the end of the XIX-th century (1899-1900) in the
context of an enthusiastic atmosphere seeking to celebrate the end
of the 1800s; it started operating around 15-th of August 1900, as
a touristic office of the Imperial postal service. The office was
in function for ca. 7 years and saw a great success; a normal day
would mean the processing of 6,000 to 10,000 postcards, but there
were even days when the office had to process up to 50,000
postcards. In the last day, the office had to process ca. 75,000
postcards during the eight hours of operation. During the First
World War, the Postojna / Adelsberg cave office was included, for a
limited span of time, in the field post structure of the Army,
within the FPA 81 (an etappe field post office). The special
cancels applied there convey the spirit of its originary touristic
purpose, and were rather more festive than of field post utility,
but they continue to be some of the scarcest, most interesting and
desirable K.u.k fieldpost cancels.
