INTRODUCTION

a. Type of Manual: Operator’s and Organiza-tional Maintenance.

c. Purpose of Equipment: The disperser isused to discharge CR liquid agent into the atmos-phere or on personnel to control uprisings, dis-turbances, and riots.

CHAPTER 2

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Section I. DESCRIPTION AND USE OF OPERATOR’S CONTROL AND INDICATORS

Container (1) contains the CR agent solution, tions lock and unlock. An intact tamperproofcharged to a pressure of 140 psi. The nozzle (2) seal (4) indicates that the actuator has not beendirects the stream of CR solution. The actuator turned to the unlock (discharge) position. Section III. OPERATION UNDER USUAL CONDITIONS

WARNING

Do not rub eyes or skin if you havebeen contaminated. Thoroughly washaffected skin areas with soap and coldwater. For eyes, flush with cold waterand seek medical treatment.To prevent unintentional dischargeof CR agent do not carry unlockeddisperser in carrier at any time, donot depress top of carrier while dis-perser is inside carrier do not exertpressure on the flap of carrierwhich contains the disperser. Cau-tion should be exercised wheneverentering a restricted space or con-ducting an action which might ex-ert pressure on the carrier/dispersertop such as buckling seat belt etc.

2-1. Initial Checks and Services.

Perform the PMCS listed in table 2-1.

2-2. Operating Procedure.

a. Strap the carrier to your belt.

b. Grasp the carrier flap and release the snapbutton.

c. Remove the disperser from the carrier.

NOTE

If left-handed, use your thumbinstead of the index finger to un-lock the actuator.

d. Grasp disperser infinger around actuator andsure that the thumb is

hand with your indexagainst the nozzle. Bearound the container

the actuatore. Using index finger, rotatenozzle counterclockwise. This will unlock theactuator.

NOTE

Do not operate disperser in upside-down position, because pressurizednitrogen will escape without agentdischarging.

f. Partially extend your arm and hold the dis-perser upright with wrist stiff. Using the indexfinger as a sight, point nozzle toward target (facialarea).

WARNING

Do not block nozzle with yourfingers or thumb when dischargingagent. CR agent will irritate yourskin.

h. Release index finger to stop discharge ofagent.

NOTE

If left handed, use your indexfinger to lock the actuator.

i. With your thumb against the nozzle, rotatethe actuator clockwise until the actuator is in thelocked position.

j. Place disperser in carrier and turn-in to or-ganizational supply.

g. Press actuator down with index finger todischarge agent. Use short 1-second bursts orcontinuous stream as required.

3-1. Repair Parts. item. When required, carriers must be requisition-ed separately, appendix D.

Section II. SERVICE

3-5. Service Upon Receipt of Materiel. One hun-dred forty-four dispersers are packed in a woodenbox. The wooden box contains 12 fiberboardcartons. Each fiberboard carton contains 12 dis-persers individually sealed in plastic bags and anenvelope containing 80 replacement tamperproofseals. See table 3-1.

WARNING

To prevent injury to personnel, donot expose the disperser to temper-ature above 130°F. (54.5°C.). The

disperser is pressurized and whenexposed to excessive heat, it couldexplode. To prevent injury to per-sonnel, do not destroy or puncturethe disperser.

WARNING

When opening the wooden packingboxes that contain dispersers, exer-cise care to prevent contaminationof personnel or the area, in theevent any of the dispersers areleaking CR agent.

D-1. Scope. This appendix lists expendable sup-plies and materials you will need to operate andmaintain the disperser and carrier. These items areauthorized to you by CTA 50-970, ExpendableItems (Except Medical, Class V, Repair Parts,and Heraldic Items).

D-2. Explanation of Columns.

a. Column 1 - Item Number. This number isassigned to the entry in the listing and is referencedin the narrative instructions to identify the mater-ial (e.g., “Use cleaning compound, item 5, app D”).

b. Column 2 - Level. This column identifiesthe lowest level of maintenance that requires thelisted item.

C – Operator/CrewO – Organizational Maintenance

c. Column 3 - National Stock Number. Thisis the National Stock Number assigned to the item;use it to request or requisition the item.

d. Column 4 - Descript ion. Indicates theFederal item name and, if required, a description toidentify the item. The last line for each item indi-cates the Federal Supply Code for Manufacturer(FSCM) in parentheses followed by the part num-ber.

e. Column 5 - Unit of Measure (U/M). Indi-cates the measure used in performing the actualmaintenance function. This measure is expressedby a two-character alphabetical abbreviation (e.g.,ea, in, pr). If the unit of measure differs from theunit of issue, requisition the lowest unit of issuethat will satisfy your requirements.

Section I. INTRODUCTION

E-1. General.

a. This appendix provides a general explanationof all maintenance and repair functions authorizedat various maintenance categories.

b. The Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC)in Section II designates overall responsibility forthe performance of maintenance functions on theidentified end item or component. The imple-mentation of the maintenance functions upon theend item or component will be consistent withthe assigned maintenance functions.

c. Section III contains supplemental instruc-tions and explanatory notes for a particular main-tenance function.

E-2. Maintenance Functions.

a. Inspect. To determine the serviceability ofan item by comparing those characteristics withestablished standards through examination.

b. Service. Operations required periodicallyto keep an item in proper operating condition,i.e., to unpack, to clean, and to repack.

c . Repair. The application of maintenanceservices or other maintenance actions to restoreserviceability to an item by correcting specificdamage, fault, malfunction, or failure in a part,subassembly, module (component or assembly),end item, or system.

3. Explanation of Columns in the MAC, SectionIl.

a. Column 1, Group Number. Column 1 listsfunctional group code numbers, the purpose ofwhich is to identify components, assemblies, sub-assemblies, modules with the next higher assembly,and end items.

b. Column 2, End Item/Component. Column2 contains the names of end item, components, as-semblies, subassemblies, and modules for whichmaintenance is authorized.

c. Column 3, Maintenance Function. Column3 lists the functions to be performed on the itemlisted in Column 2.

d. Column 4, Maintenance Category. Column4 specifies, by the listing of a work time figure inthe appropriate subcolumn(s), the category ofmaintenance authorized to perform the functionlisted in Column 3. This figure represents the activetime required to perform that maintenance func-tion at the indicated category of maintenance. Ifthe number or complexity of the tasks within thelisted maintenance function vary at differentmaintenance categories, appropriate work timefigures will be shown for each category. The worktime figure represents the average time required torestore an item (assembly, subassembly, compo-nent, module, end item, or system) to a serviceablecondition under typical field operating conditions.This time includes preparation time, troubleshoot-ing time, and quality assurance/quality controltime in addition to the time required to performthe specific tasks identified for the maintenancefunctions authorized in the maintenance allocationchart. The symbol designations for the variousmaintenance categories are as follows:

e. Column 5, Tools and Equipment, Column 5specifies, by code, those common tool sets (notindividual tools) and special tools; TMDE, andsupport equipment required to perform the desig-nated function.

f. Column 6, Remarks. This column shall,when applicable, contain a letter code, in alpha-betic order, which shall be keyed to the remarkscontained in Section III.
