FOREWORD
Pattern Analyser is a graphical software program for the laying blast pattern. It gives engineers and blasting
personnel the ability to the layout initiation sequence of almost any type of bench blasting, as most
commonly used in open cut mining.
It allows the designer to:
Provide surface delays, with tie line connections.
Analyze wave front reinforcement.
Import data and print the design.
Save design to database and as image files in widely used formats.
Individual elements of the pattern are defined by the user and can be combined in a variety of scenario.
Note : Pattern Analyser is best viewed with all functionalities with Google chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Pattern Analyser is blasting pattern analysis software.
This software allows user:
Draw blast hole pattern.
Join blast holes by tie lines.
Assign delays between the holes.
Perform Wave front Reinforcement Analysis.
View number of holes fired in the time window specified by the user.
Save pattern design information to database.
Import design(s).
Save Blast hole plan, Wave front Reinforcement, Time Window Analysis diagram as widely used
image file formats.

CHAPTER 2: ARCHITECTURE
Pattern Analyser incorporates several major functions:
Design Functions:
This includes New, Open, Save, Save as, Close, Print, Delete, Import and Rename Design functionality.
Editing Functions:
This includes editing blast design parameters, mine details, comments and wave front thickness, Undo,
change delay and clear all at runtime.
Analysis Functions:
This includes analysis of design by time window and Draw 2D wave front reinforcement diagram.
Database Management Function:
This includes SQL SERVER 2008 database storage and exportation and importation of data. Includes
saving details of export and import design.

2.1 Screen Layout
Pattern Analyser main screen has the design area in which designs can be made and edited. Main screen
consist of several components, which helps during making of designs.
All of these components are explained as below:
2.2.1 Header
This is top most part of the screen with application logo and name. This displays user name, profile picture
and company logo.

2.2.2 Menu Bar
This is portion of application screen just below header. This consists of menu items used for creating,
editing and analysis of designs, help and logout link.
2.2.3 Footer
This component is at bottom most part of application screen. This display website name.

CHAPTER 3: GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Pattern Analyser incorporates several major functions:
3.1 New Design
New Design can be opened by choosing New option from Design Menu. Basic Design information appears
on left side of screen and default design appears on right side with some information regarding design.
Draw design: Initially default pattern (either Square or staggered chosen by user) appear with holes according
given information in basic design parameter.
Now user can draw design by connecting holes.

Single Tie lines
Following is the procedure to draw hole to hole single tie line:
1. Place the mouse cursor on one hole click the hole, that hole will become activated (i.e. hole with red
square outside and filled with blue).
2. Move the mouse cursor to next hole which is to be connected from active hole. On click next hole blue
color tie line will appear and next hole also activated with red color square outside and filled with blue color.
3. After that click on last selected hole. User will get tie line between selected holes and holes filled
with blue color with without red square and delay will appear above the hole.
4. Repeat the process 1 – 3 to connect the holes to be tied.
Multiple Tie lines
Following is the procedure to draw hole to hole single tie line:
1. Place the mouse cursor on one hole click the hole, that hole will become activated (i.e. hole with red
square outside and filled with blue).

2. Move the mouse cursor to next hole which is to be connected from active hole. On click selected hole
blue color tie lines will appear between all holes those come in line of selected two holes. All holes also
activated with red color square outside and filled with blue color.
3. After that click on last selected hole. User gets tie lines between all holes and holes filled with blue
color with without red square and delay will appear above the holes.

4. Repeat the process 1 – 3 to connect the holes to be tied.

3.2 Opening Existing Design
Open Design option allows to open already saved design. This option can be chosen from Design Menu
bar. On clicking Open Design dialog box will appear showing list of design saved to database. User select
design to open and click Open button.

On clicking Open button one more dialog box will appear for confirmation.
On clicking Ok button selected design will open like this:

If file is not opening then it will show like
3.3 Saving Design
Save Design option allows user to save the active design on design area. Design information (i.e. related to
holes, tie lines and design parameter etc.) is stored in database. Save design option can be chosen from
Design Menu bar. On click Save Design dialog box appears.
On click yes button design will save. After successfully save it will show like this and clicking on close you can
continue your work. After saving if you want to open new design then user must have to close it first by going
on design menu and then click on new for opening new design.

Example: In this SS as design name.
This pop will appear for confirmation. So just click OK button for save design.
3.4 Save as Design
Save as Design option allows user to update the saved design. Updated design information (i.e. related to
holes, tie lines and design parameter etc.) is stored in database. Save as design option can be chosen from
Design Menu bar. On clicking Save as Design dialog box will appear.

Clicking on save button if the design is already exist than it will show
On click Update link following pop appears.
On clicking yes button design parameters will update with new parameters and further user can work on
design.

3.5 Import Design
Import Design option allows user to import design. This option can be chosen from Design Menu bar. On click
Import screen will appear like this :
On click Browse Button window will appear user can choose design and must give design name in Design
Name text box.

After this design data appears in table format.
After import file user must close design. User can see imported design by open option.

3.7 Export Desig
By clicking on Export user get a window like
So a user can select a exporting file and user must give the filename as Export as: unless file will not export.

Now after selcting and a clicking on Export button. User can easly donwload a Exported file by clicking on
Download file.
3.6 Close Design
Close Design option allows user to close current design. Close design option can be chosen from Design
Menu bar.
3.7 Rename Design
Rename Design option allows user to rename design name. Rename design option can be chosen from
Design Menu bar. On click Rename Design dialog box appear.

First user choose design from list for rename after selecting design must enter new name of design in New
Design Name field and click Rename Button. On clicking following dialog box will appear for confirmation.
On click OK button design will save with new name.

3.8 Delete Design
Delete Design option allows user to delete Design information (i.e. related to holes, tie lines and design
parameter etc.) from database. Delete design option can be chosen from Design Menu bar. On click Delete
Design dialog box appears.
User first choose design name from list for deletion and click on Delete button. The following dialog will appear
that shows design deleted successfully.

CHAPTER 4: BLAST DESIGN
Pattern Analyser is for open cut blast design analysis. It allows designing blast with minimum information
available.
Minimal Information required for blast designing is as following:
Number of rows
Holes per row
Burden of holes
Spacing between holes
4.1 Blast design
Blast design requires minimal information from the user to draw blast pattern.
Following functionalities are provided in this module:
Draw Pattern
Draw tielines (surface delays)
Analyse the design
Querying the pattern information
Importing design(s)
Print design

CHAPTER 5: Draw Blast Pattern
Blast pattern is group of holes placed in a predefined drilling pattern e.g. Rectangular and Staggered.
5.1 Basic Design Parameter
Blast hole pattern creation is carried out by accessing new design menu . On clicking a design parameters
appears on left side of screen which requires blast pattern / hole information from user like :
Number of Rows
Number of Holes per Row
Burden Type
Spacing Type
Burden
Spacing

Reset : This Button is used for enable Design parameters in open design.
Process: This button is used for processing that reflected the changes in the design.
5.2 Design Panel
This shows design according to design parameter on right side in open design and user can draw new
pattern using New option .
5.2.1 Connecting Holes with tie lines
Blast holes are connected with connectors like Shock tube, detonating cord etc. Delays are placed
between holes or rows for effective blasting operation.
Single Tielines
Following is the procedure to draw hole to hole single tieline:
1. Place the mouse cursor on one hole click the hole, that hole will become
activated (i.e. hole with red square outside and filled with blue).

2. Move the mouse cursor to next hole which is to be connected from active hole. On click next hole blue
color tie line will appear and next hole also activated with red color square outside and filled with blue
color.
3. After that click on last selected hole. User will get tie line between selected holes and holes filled
with blue color with without red square and delay will appear above the hole.
4. Repeat the process 1 – 3 to connect the holes to be tied.
Multiple Tielines

4. Repeat the process 1 – 3 to connect the holes to be tied.
5.2.2 Limitations in drawing tieline
Tieline that make a cycle of tielines are not permitted. One cannot make a tieline,which makes hole to be
connected from different holes. A message will be prompted in front of user in case he tries to make such
tieline. This is explainedas below:
Case I: User makes tielines in following manner. This is allowed.

Case II: User tries to make tieline between highlighted hole in above case and hole with 34 ms delay as
shown in case above. This is not allowed and will result in error message.
5.2.3 Change delay
Pattern Analyser allows changing delay.On changing the delay the next tieline dealy will appear according
to new change delay and holes connected to those tielines will change progressively. This is explained
from following image sequence:

Step I: Following indicates original blast holes connected with tielines and delay assigned as 17ms.
Step II: User can change delay on click Change Delay button on top of Design panel. On clicking it one
dialog box will appear user can select either from drop down list or by typing in textbox. After selection user
must click on Ok button. (exp: user selected 10 ms delay )
Step III: After that tieline delay will change and result in progressive connected holes will also change
(exp: new tie line from 0 ms delay to 30 ms have 10 ms new selected delay.)

5.2.4 View Selection
This allows user to see selected hole design. We create a this design
And now we select 4 holes (See holes with red outline) like
And now we click on view selection than user can able to see. If a user again want to see full Design
than just simply click on view full image so you are able to see your full Design.

5.2.5 Zoom In- Zoom Out
User can also zoom it’s design by just clicking on zoom in and also reduce zoom by clicking on
zoom out.

5.2.6 Undo
This allows users to undo last event.
5.2.7 Clear All
This button on right side on design panel and allows for clearing all the tielines in the present design from
the view.

5.2.8 Clear Extra Holes
If a user want to clear extra holes after making a design so he can also do this by just clicking on Clear
Extra Hole button

You can still show all holes that you draw by just clicking on show extra hole button.
5.2.9 Convert to image
This is used to save design in image format.
5.2.10 Print
This is used to take print of design.

CHAPTER 6: ANALYSIS
Pattern Analyser can be used as tool to assess the likely impact of a particular design. This analysis tool
allows for time window analysis and viewing Wavefront reinforcement diagram for air and ground waves.
6.1 Wavefront Reinforcement Diagram Analysis
Pattern analyser allows user to visualise the reinforcement of wavefronts generated from blast holes
pattern. This option can be accessed from Analysis Wavefront Diagram Button.

On click Wavefront Diagram Button 2D wavefront reinforcement diagram will appear with design
information Like this :
Change Velocity : User can change Wave Velocity for this user click on Change Velocity button on left
side. On clicking velocity window will appear displaying several velocity options. These velocity values
indicates sound velocity and ground wave propagations velocity which includes body waves including
Primary wave or Compressive wave or P wave and secondary wave or shear wave or S-Wave and surface

wave or rayleigh wave or R-Wave.
Change WaveFront Thickness : User can change wavefront thickness for this user click on Change
WaveFront Thickness button on left side. On clicking new window will appear display three thickness
options.

User can select any one and then click on Ok button New wavefront diagram will appear with new
thickness.
Print this Page : On this button user can get print out of diagram.

6.2 Time Window Analysis
This functionality allows user to view graphical representation of number of hole firing within a time frame.
This analysis is based on time window, which starts from 0 and moves forward. In each window numbers of
holes firing are calculated and are shown on Y-axis of the graphs.

X - Axis: Time in millisecond
Y – Axis: Number of holes firing within that time interval.
This option can be accessed from Analysis Time Window Button.
On click Time Window Button result is displayed with design information Like this :

Time Window : User can change time on click on Time Window button on left side on diagram. On
clicking time window will appear user enter new time in box and click Ok button. After click on Ok
button the new analysis will appear.
Print this Page : On this button user can get print out of diagram.

CHAPTER 7: EDIT FUNCTIONS
Pattern Analyser provides many editing functionalities. Many of them have been discussed in previous
respective sections. These functionalities can be accessed from Edit menu.
7.1 Mine Details
This option can be accessed from Edit Mine Details item.
On click dialog box will appear user must enter mine name and blast location in corresponding fields.
Click on Add Details Button to save. On clicking Add detail button message of updated successfully will
appear in dialog box.
Then user must click on close button And entered information will appear on bottom right side of
header.
