FOREWORD

Pattern Analyser is a graphical software program for the laying blast pattern. It gives engineers and blasting

personnel the ability to the layout initiation sequence of almost any type of bench blasting, as most

commonly used in open cut mining.

It allows the designer to:

Provide surface delays, with tie line connections.

Analyze wave front reinforcement.

Import data and print the design.

Save design to database and as image files in widely used formats.

Individual elements of the pattern are defined by the user and can be combined in a variety of scenario.

Note : Pattern Analyser is best viewed with all functionalities with Google chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

CHAPTER 3: GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Pattern Analyser incorporates several major functions:

3.1 New Design

New Design can be opened by choosing New option from Design Menu. Basic Design information appears

on left side of screen and default design appears on right side with some information regarding design.

Draw design: Initially default pattern (either Square or staggered chosen by user) appear with holes according

given information in basic design parameter.

Now user can draw design by connecting holes.

Single Tie lines

Following is the procedure to draw hole to hole single tie line:

1. Place the mouse cursor on one hole click the hole, that hole will become activated (i.e. hole with red

square outside and filled with blue).

2. Move the mouse cursor to next hole which is to be connected from active hole. On click next hole blue

color tie line will appear and next hole also activated with red color square outside and filled with blue color.

3. After that click on last selected hole. User will get tie line between selected holes and holes filled

with blue color with without red square and delay will appear above the hole.

4. Repeat the process 1 – 3 to connect the holes to be tied.

Multiple Tie lines

CHAPTER 4: BLAST DESIGN

Pattern Analyser is for open cut blast design analysis. It allows designing blast with minimum information

available.

Minimal Information required for blast designing is as following:

Number of rows

Holes per row

Burden of holes

Spacing between holes

4.1 Blast design

Blast design requires minimal information from the user to draw blast pattern.

Following functionalities are provided in this module:

Draw Pattern

Draw tielines (surface delays)

Analyse the design

Querying the pattern information

Importing design(s)

Print design

CHAPTER 5: Draw Blast Pattern

Blast pattern is group of holes placed in a predefined drilling pattern e.g. Rectangular and Staggered.

5.1 Basic Design Parameter

Blast hole pattern creation is carried out by accessing new design menu . On clicking a design parameters

appears on left side of screen which requires blast pattern / hole information from user like :

Number of Rows

Number of Holes per Row

Burden Type

Spacing Type

5.2 Design Panel

This shows design according to design parameter on right side in open design and user can draw new

pattern using New option .

5.2.1 Connecting Holes with tie lines

Blast holes are connected with connectors like Shock tube, detonating cord etc. Delays are placed

between holes or rows for effective blasting operation.

Single Tielines

Following is the procedure to draw hole to hole single tieline:

1. Place the mouse cursor on one hole click the hole, that hole will become

activated (i.e. hole with red square outside and filled with blue).

Page 25: OPERATION MANUAL - Mine Excellence · This Button is used for enable Design parameters in open design. Process: This button is used for processing that reflected the changes in the

25

2. Move the mouse cursor to next hole which is to be connected from active hole. On click next hole blue

color tie line will appear and next hole also activated with red color square outside and filled with blue

color.

3. After that click on last selected hole. User will get tie line between selected holes and holes filled

with blue color with without red square and delay will appear above the hole.

4. Repeat the process 1 – 3 to connect the holes to be tied.

Multiple Tielines

Following is the procedure to draw hole to hole single tieline:

1. Place the mouse cursor on one hole click the hole, that hole will become activated (i.e. hole with

red square outside and filled with blue).

2. Move the mouse cursor to next hole which is to be connected from active hole. On click selected hole

blue color tie lines will appear between all holes those come in line of selected two holes. All holes also

activated with red color square outside and filled with blue color.

3. After that click on last selected hole. User gets tie lines between all holes and holes filled with blue

color with without red square and delay will appear above the holes.

27

4. Repeat the process 1 – 3 to connect the holes to be tied.

5.2.2 Limitations in drawing tieline

Tieline that make a cycle of tielines are not permitted. One cannot make a tieline, which makes hole to be

connected from different holes. A message will be prompted in front of user in case he tries to make such

tieline. This is explainedas below:

Case I: User makes tielines in following manner. This is allowed.

Page 28: OPERATION MANUAL - Mine Excellence · This Button is used for enable Design parameters in open design. Process: This button is used for processing that reflected the changes in the

OPERATION MANUAL

28

Case II: User tries to make tieline between highlighted hole in above case and hole with 34 ms delay as

shown in case above. This is not allowed and will result in error message.

5.2.3 Change delay

Pattern Analyser allows changing delay. On changing the delay the next tieline dealy will appear according

to new change delay and holes connected to those tielines will change progressively. This is explained

from following image sequence:

Page 29: OPERATION MANUAL - Mine Excellence · This Button is used for enable Design parameters in open design. Process: This button is used for processing that reflected the changes in the

OPERATION MANUAL

29

Step I: Following indicates original blast holes connected with tielines and delay assigned as 17ms.

Step II: User can change delay on click Change Delay button on top of Design panel. On clicking it one

dialog box will appear user can select either from drop down list or by typing in textbox. After selection user

must click on Ok button. (exp: user selected 10 ms delay )

Step III: After that tieline delay will change and result in progressive connected holes will also change

(exp: new tie line from 0 ms delay to 30 ms have 10 ms new selected delay.)

5.2.4 View Selection

This allows user to see selected hole design. We create a this design

And now we select 4 holes (See holes with red outline) like

And now we click on view selection than user can able to see. If a user again want to see full Design

than just simply click on view full image so you are able to see your full Design.

5.2.5 Zoom In- Zoom Out

User can also zoom it’s design by just clicking on zoom in and also reduce zoom by clicking on

zoom out.

After Zoom In After Zoom Out

5.2.6 Undo

This allows users to undo last event.

5.2.7 Clear All

This button on right side on design panel and allows for clearing all the tielines in the present design from

the view.

5.2.8 Clear Extra Holes

If a user want to clear extra holes after making a design so he can also do this by just clicking on Clear

Extra Hole button

Without Clear Extra Hole Image

Image After clicking on Clear Extra Holes

You can still show all holes that you draw by just clicking on show extra hole button.

5.2.9 Convert to image

This is used to save design in image format.

5.2.10 Print

This is used to take print of design.

6.2 Time Window Analysis

This functionality allows user to view graphical representation of number of hole firing within a time frame.

This analysis is based on time window, which starts from 0 and moves forward. In each window numbers of

holes firing are calculated and are shown on Y-axis of the graphs.

Graph

X - Axis: Time in millisecond

Y – Axis: Number of holes firing within that time interval.

This option can be accessed from Analysis Time Window Button.

On click Time Window Button result is displayed with design information Like this :
