4 FUNCTION

The UV-LED 365-30 Floodlight generates ultraviolet radiation that is not visible to the human eye; the wavelength of this electromagnetic radiation is shorter than the wavelength of blue-violet light that is visible to humans.

The ultraviolet radiation of the UV-LED 365-30 is generated by special high- performance UV-LEDs. They generate a wavelength of approx. 360 to 370 nm, predominantly 365 nm. This corresponds to UV radiation in the so-called UVA range. As the UV-LED 365-30 does not generate any dangerous UVB or UVC radiation, you can use simpler and more cost-efficient filter glasses with this lamp.

APPLICATION FOR NON-DESTRUCTIVE MATERIAL TESTINGIn the non-destructive testing of materials, fluorescent components of the test medium are excited by the UV radiation from the UV-LED 365-30. This makes any cracks more clearly visible to the viewer, as well as to image processing systems.

Due to the very narrow spectral range of the UV radiation, the UV beam generated by the UV-LED 365-30 beam can be adjusted perfectly to the pigments in the test equipment. This allows a more accurate fault determination of cracks or faults compared to other UV sources, such as mercury vapour lamps.

RADIATION INTENSITY AND ILLUMINABLE SURFACEA uniform illumination of the inspection area is important for reliable detection of cracks.

Through the use of 30 high-power UV LEDs, the UV-LED 365-30 achieves a consistent illuminated area of up to approx. 600 x 400 mm² at a distance of approx. 400 mm.

The intensity of the radiation depends on the distance between the UV source and the test area. If the distance is changed, the test area must be checked with a UV intensity measuring device.

5 GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

5.1 HAZARDS WHEN USING THE UV-LED 365-30The use of the UV-LED 365-30 Floodlight can give rise to risks and adverse effects for:• the health of the operating staff• the UV-LED 365-30 unit itself and other equipment

The basis for safe handling and trouble-free operation of this UV-LED lamp is the knowledge of the safety and user instructions in these operating instructions. Serious personal injury and material damage can be caused by:• incorrect installation and assembly• improper use• unauthorised removal of covers or safety devices

All operators should also be familiar with: • the general and local regulations on accident prevention and environmental protection;• national and harmonised standards and guidelines for the commissioning and use of technical equipment.

Always observe the safety instructions on the lamp itself and in this operating manual. The operation manual must always be kept in the same location as the lamp and be freely accessible to all operators and maintenance personnel.

ELECTRICAL HAZARDS The UV-LED 365-30 Floodlight is operated with mains voltage. Direct contact with live parts is possible when the housing is open, which can result in life-threatening electric shocks or burns. Work on the electrical system is prohibited; in the event of damage to, or a defect in, the electronics or the electrical components, return the lamp to the manufacturer, Magnaflux GmbH.

DANGERS OF UV RADIATIONThe measured irradiation intensity in the UVA range as a function of the exposure time is below 10 mW/m2. According to the EM6 guideline of the DGzfP (German Society for Non-Destructive Testing) and the guideline of the ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists), this complies with UV Risk Class 2.

The UV-LED 365-30 Floodlight is marked with the following warning signs:

UV Warning Sign Wear UV-absorbing eye protection

IMPORTANT: Despite the low radiation exposure, personal health effects can not be ruled out in case of exposure times over longer periods. Due to the low penetration of the energetic optical radiation, potential health hazards are largely limited to the eye and hands of the operator, for example, redness or increased pigmentation of the skin.

Assessment of the hazards depends on the following factors:• Exposure time• Radiation intensity• Spectrum of the UV lamp

To avoid possible damage to skin and eyes, we make the following recommenda-tions:

• Do not look directly into the UV light.

• Never use focusing optical devices, such as magnifying glasses, telescopes or microscopes, to look at the light source. (This does not include the wearing of corrective glasses or contact lenses).

• Do not direct the UV beam towards other people.

• Always position the UV lamp source below eye-level.

• Avoid skin contact. Wear protective clothing and suitable gloves or lotions with a high UV protection factor.

• Wear suitable eye protection (UV-absorbing safety goggles). UV light can damage the eyes through reflections, not just by looking directly at the source..

• Only trained personnel should be present when the UV lamp is being operated.

• Post suitable warning and information signs in the areas where the lamp will be used.

The operator of the machine must identify, document, and mark areas of increased exposition. S/he must ensure that• only authorised and trained personnel is allowed within this area and• the permissible values for short-term and body exposure are not exceeded, or• personal protective equipment is used to prevent excessive exposure.

WARNING: Ultraviolet radiation can cause damage to skin and eyes.• Only operate UV lamps when they are fitted with an undamaged and correctly installed filter glass.• Wear suitable eye protection (UV protection goggles)• Avoid impacts and rough handling to ensure the filter glass is not damaged.

5.2 ACTION IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCYIn the event of an emergency, switch off the power supply to the UV-LED 365-30 The mains switch disconnects the internal electronics from the mains voltage; however, parts of the lamp can still be carrying dangerous voltages even when the mains switch is OFF.

Switch off the external power supply of the lamp immediately if defects or damage have been detected on the electrical equipment. Unplug the damaged lamp and secure it against further use.

OBLIGATIONS ON THE OPERATORThe operator is obliged to ensure that the UV-LED 365-30 Floodlight is only oper-ated by persons who:• are familiar with the basic regulations concerning occupational safety and accident prevention;• have been trained on operation of the light;• have read and understood this manual.

If you have any questions, please contact the manufacturer.

6 SET-UP AND OPERATIONTRAINING OF PERSONNELOnly trained personnel must operate the UV-LED 365-30 Floodlight. All personnel undergoing training must only work with the lamp while under supervision.

Commissioning, maintenance and repair work must only be carried out by qualified personnel.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENTAccording to the relevant standards, the radiation intensity from the UV-LED 365-30 is so low that the use of personal protection equipment is not mandatory, pro-vided the lamp is used as intended.

That said, the individual risk of UV radiation can be reduced even further by wear-ing suitable personal protective equipment (PPE). Wear suitable eye protection (UV-absorbing safety goggles) and cover your skin with suitable UV-proof clothes and gloves when operating the light.

MODIFICATIONSAny changes or modifications to the UV-LED 365-30 Floodlight are not permitted without the written consent of the manufacturer. If you want to make any changes to your lamp unit, please consult the manufacturer first.

REPLACEMENT AND SPARE PARTSThe use of replacement and spare parts from third party manufacturers may be hazardous. Only use original parts (see list below), or parts approved by the man-ufacturer. The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage caused by spare parts and consumables which have not been approved by the manufacturer.

Original spare parts:• Protective safety glass, part number 12110-118571• Seal, part number 61940-118572• Power cable with binder connector, part number 65700-118573• Screw set for protective glass M4x17 (SW2,5 internal hex)

Reflector lenses are UV-corrosive media. Over time, a clouding of the lens may occur, which will reduce the UVA intensity. This component can be replaced by the manufacturer as required.
