When using electrical appliances basic safety precautions should always befollowed, including the following:

Read all instructions before installation or use of the coffee system.

Please read these instructionscarefully to prevent accidents andmachine damage.

This appliance complies with currentsafety requirements. Improper use ofthe appliance can cause personalinjury and material damage.

This appliance is for household useonly, to prepare espresso,cappuccino and coffee.Do not use this appliance other thanfor its intended use. Any other usecould be dangerous.

The manufacturer cannot be heldresponsible for damage caused byimproper use of the appliance.

Electrical safetyBefore connecting the appliance tothe electrical supply make sure

that the voltage and frequency listed onthe data plate correspond with thehousehold electrical supply. If in doubt,consult a qualified technician.

The appliance must be properlyinstalled before operation to ensure

that no electrical components areaccessible. Ensure that power is notsupplied to the appliance whileinstallation work, repairs ormaintenance is performed.

Be certain your appliance isproperly installed and grounded by

a qualified technician. To guarantee theelectrical safety of this appliance,continuity must exist between theappliance and an effective groundingsystem. It is imperative that this basicsafety requirement be met. If there isany doubt, have the electrical system ofthe house checked by a qualifiedelectrician. The manufacturer cannot beheld responsible for damages causedby the lack, or inadequacy, of aneffective grounding system.

Do not use an extension cord toconnect the appliance to electricity.

Extension cords do not guarantee therequired safety of the appliance(danger of overheating).

Before service or maintenancedisconnect the power supply by

either removing the fuse, "tripping" thecircuit breaker or unplugging the unit.

Install or locate this appliance onlyin accordance with the provided

installation instructions.

Installation work and repairs shouldonly be performed by a trained

technician in accordance with nationaland local safety regulations. Repairsand other work by unauthorizedpersons could be dangerous.

Never open the outer casing of theappliance. Tampering with

electrical connections or componentsand mechanical parts is dangerous andmay cause machine damage.

If the machine is installed incombination with other appliances,

a protective base should be installedbetween the appliance and the unit.

Do not install or use outdoors evenif installed in the display cabinet.

To protect against fire, electricshock and injury to persons do not

submerge the cord or plugs in water orother liquids.

Do not let the cord hang over theedge of a table or counter, or touch

hot surfaces.

Do not operate any appliance witha damaged cord or plug, or after

the appliance malfunctions or has beendamaged in any manner. ContactMiele.

Always attach the cord to theappliance first, then plug it into the

wall outlet. To disconnect, turn themachine off, then remove the plug fromthe wall outlet.

Use

The coffee system must bemaintained daily to prevent thegrowth of harmful bacteria andmold. Please read the "Cleaning andcare" section of this booklet. Allparts are dishwasher safe exceptthe brew unit and bean container.

Caution! Do not look directly or withan optical instrument into thelighting - laser radiation.

Caution! Risk of burns whendispensing hot beverages, they areextremely hot.

Persons which lack physical,sensory or mental abilities or

experience with the machine should notuse it without supervision or instructionby a responsible person.

Close supervision is necessarywhen any appliance is used by or

near children.

Do not touch hot surfaces. Usehandles or knobs.

Rinse the lines and the frothdispenser, and clean the unit

before the first use.

To avoid injuries allow the coffeesystem to cool before cleaning or

putting on and taking off parts. Turn themachine off at the main switch whennot in use and before cleaning.

Only fill the water tank with cold,fresh tap water. Warm or hot water,

or any other liquids may damage themachine. The water should be changeddaily to prevent bacteria or moldgrowth.

Do not use mineral water. Mineralwater leads to heavy calcium

buildup in the machine that candamage the unit.

Do not put anything but coffeebeans into the beans container. Do

not put ground coffee in the beanscontainer, it will damage the grindingunit.

Do not fill anything but groundcoffee or a cleaning tablet (for the

brew unit) in the funnel for groundcoffee, otherwise it will get damaged.

Sugar can damage the appliance!Caramelized or otherwise

pre-treated coffee beans or other sugarcontaining beverages must not be putin the machine.

Never place a cup with analcohol-coffee mixture underneath

the coffee dispenser. Plastic parts ofthe unit could catch fire!

The hot water and steamdispensed could cause scalding.

These functions must be used carefully.Never hold any parts of the body underthe steam nozzle or the hot waterdispenser. The machine must never beused to clean objects.

Do not use the machine when thefroth dispenser is removed. Danger

of scalding with hot steam!

Never use a steam cleaner to cleanthe appliance. Pressurized steam

could damage electrical componentsand cause a short circuit.

The appliance must be descaledregularly with the supplied

descaling tablets. In areas with veryhard water the machine may need to bedescaled more often. The manufacturercannot be held responsible fordamages resulting from insufficientdescaling.

Only use the descaling tabletsprovided by Miele. Take care to

use the correct mixture of water anddescaler, otherwise it may causedamage.

Depending on the fat content of thecoffee, the brew unit may clog.

Clean the brew unit every 200 cupswith a cleaning tablet. The displayshows a respective request.

Dispose of the coffee waste in atrash can, not in the sink. The sink

could get clogged.

Do not hang, lean, sit or placeheavy items on the door. The

machine could be damaged.

The use of accessory attachmentsnot recommended by the

appliance manufacturer may result infire, electric shock or injury to persons.

Touch controlsSelect a touch control with yourfingertip to use the machine.

DisplayTo select a menu, select the touchcontrol next to the respective menupoint.

If more features can be selected underone menu point, the menu has threedots (e.g. "Settings...").

"more" / "back": If there are moremenus which are not immediatelyshown, select "more" or "back" to seefurther options.

"Clear": to go back to the previousscreen.

"Stop": to cancel coffee preparation.

"OK": to save a setting.

Before the first use

The appliance must be correctlyinstalled and connected before thefirst use.

Clean the appliance and removeprotective foils before the first use.

Turning on^ Select "On/Off" to turn the coffee

system on.

The display shows the clock. See"Settings - Clock - Setting the time ofday" to set the time.

During the very first use, you will beprompted to select a language.

^ Select the desired language touchcontrol and then "OK".

The J symbol indicates the "Language"setting. If you accidentally select anunfamiliar language, simply look for theJ symbol. Touch the control next to theflag symbol and select your languageof choice.

^ Customize the coffee system to yourdesired settings.

Prepare two cups of coffee anddispose of them, this will clean anycoffee residues from the brew unitleft from the quality control tests atthe factory.

Turning off^ Select "On/Off".

The display shows the time of day. After60 seconds the display turns off(depending on the setting). See"Settings - Clock".

If the rinse automatic feature isturned on the machine will beginrinsing if a coffee was prepared thatday.

First steps to use

Before using the coffee system forthe first time, clean the appliance.See "Cleaning and Care".

Filling the water tankThe beans and the water quality isimportant for a good espresso orcoffee. The water tank must be washedand filled with fresh cold drinking waterbefore each day of use. The unitdisplays a reminder when turned on.

Never add hot water or any otherliquids except cold water to thewater tank.

Do not use mineral water. Mineralwater leads to heavy calciumbuilt-up in the machine that candamage the unit.

^ Open the appliance door bygrasping the recess next to the hotwater spout and pulling the doortowards you.

^ Pull the water tank out.

^ Fill the container with fresh, cold tapwater to the "Max." mark.

A valve at the front of the tank preventsleaks.

^ Close the lid and push the water tankinto the unit until it clicks into place.

The water tank must be positionedcorrectly or the valve will leak. If thewater tank has not clicked intoplace, pull the tank out, check andclean the niche.

Filling the beans container

Only fill espresso or coffee beans inthe beans container. Anything else -including ground coffee - willdamage the grinding unit.Caramelized or otherwisepre-treated beans or sugarcontaining beverages must not befilled into the appliance. It willdamage the coffee system.

^ Pull the bean container out.

^ Push the lid back and fill thecontainer with roasted coffee beans.

^ Push the lid back into place and putthe beans container back into theappliance.

^ Close the door.

Filling ground coffeeA funnel for ground coffee is providedin case you would like to prepare adifferent coffee type, e.g. decaffeinatedcoffee.

^ Pull the cover for the ground coffeefunnel out of the appliance and lift thefunnel lid, a.

^ Place one spoonful of ground coffeeinto the funnel, b, (using thesupplied spoon) and close the lid.

^ Push the cover into the applianceand close the door.

See "Making Coffee - Espresso andcoffee made from ground coffee".

The lines must be rinsed daily beforethe first use. This will happenautomatically if "Rinse automatic" isset to "On" (see "Settings - RinseAutomatic") and the machine is cold.After heating, hot water runs out ofthe two spouts into the drip tray. If"Rinse automatic" was set to "Off",use "Care" to rinse the lines. See"Cleaning and Care - Rinse".

Prewarming cupsAll beverages should be made in awarm cup, to develop the aroma. Thesmaller the amount of coffee orespresso and the thicker the cups, themore important it is to prewarm thecups.

^ Set the cup under the hot waterspout.

^ Select "Hot water" from the mainmenu.

^ Hot water is dispensed. Select "Stop"to stop the flow.

^ Let the hot water sit for a moment toprewarm the cup, then empty thecup.

Adjust the dispenser heightDepending on the cup height, thecoffee dispensers can be adjusted sothat the coffee and espresso have ashorter distance to the cup, do not cooland have a better crema.

^ Pull the coffee dispenser slowly up ordown.

Espresso and coffee madefrom coffee beans

^ Set a cup under the coffee dispenser.

The drink is dispensed through bothdispensers at the same time.

^ Select "Espresso" or "Coffee".

The machine grinds the beans andpre-brews the coffee (if "On" is selectedunder "Pre-brewing"). The selectedbeverage is dispensed.

Do not open the door duringbrewing. The machine will bedamaged.

Canceling

^ Select "Stop" to cancel the process.

The portion sizes for espresso, coffeeand cappuccino can be set individually.See "Setting the serving sizes".

Preparing two cups at the same time

^ Set a cup under each coffeedispenser.

^ Select "Espresso" or "Coffee".

^ Select "2 portions" when displayed.

The coffee system makes two portionsof espresso or coffee with a fewseconds in between.

Keep the cups under the dispenseruntil the main menu shows in thedisplay.

Espresso and coffee madefrom ground coffeeAfter filling the funnel with groundcoffee (see "Filling water, beans orground coffee - Filling ground coffee"),the display shows:

^ Select "Yes".

Select "No" if no ground coffee is filledin the funnel. Otherwise the coffeesystem assumes that ground coffee isin the machine and dispenses onlywater next time coffee is made.

^ Set a cup under the coffee dispenser.

The drink is dispensed through bothdispensers at the same time.

^ Select "Espresso" or "Coffee".

The coffee system brews the espressoor coffee and the drink is dispensed.

Do not open the door during thebrewing process. It will damage themachine. The unit will switchautomatically back to brewing withbeans after preparation.

Canceling

^ Select "Stop" to cancel the process.

Preparing two cups at the same time

When using ground coffee, only oneportion at a time can be prepared. Theunit uses the whole portion of groundcoffee which was filled in the funnel toprepare one drink.

Cappuccino and milk froth

When using for the first time or usingafter descaling

The lines were completely drainedbefore the unit left the factory. They willalso be drained when the machine isdescaled. Before preparingcappuccino or froth, the lines must befilled with water. ^ Set a cup under the cappuccino

dispenser.

^ Select "Milk froth".

The intake hose takes in water from thetank and fills the lines with water. Asmall amount of water runs from of thefroth dispenser.

Prompts to clean the froth dispenserappear in the display.

^ Confirm by selecting "OK".

^ Once the machine stops, select "Milkfroth" again.

The froth dispenser dispenses steamand the lines are filled with water.

^ Select "Clear" to get back to the mainmenu.

The coffee system is ready to use.

Making coffee

Cappuccino

To prepare a cappuccino you need alarge ceramic or porcelain cup and asmall mug (supplied) of milk.

The best milk froth is achieved withcold skim milk.

Only one cup of cappuccino can beprepared at a time because of themilk frothing process.

^ Set the mug of milk under the intakehose and the cup under the frothdispenser.

^ Select "Cappuccino".

The milk is frothed into the cup. At thesame time the beans are ground.

Select "Stop" to cancel the milk frothing.

^ Once the milk is frothed, set thecappuccino cup under bothdispensers and select "OK".

The cappuccino will be prepared.

Milk froth

If you need additional milk froth,prepare cold skim milk in a stainlesssteel mug which narrows towards thetop.

^ Set the supplied glass mug with milkunder the intake hose and thestainless steel mug under the frothdispenser.

^ Select "Milk froth".

The milk is frothed into the stainlesssteel mug.

^ Select "Stop" to cancel the milkfrothing.

After preparing milk froth andcappuccino

Clean the froth dispenser and intakehose immediately after use. If the milk isallowed to dry, the parts may getclogged and difficult to clean. See"Cleaning and Care".

Making coffee

The amount of ground coffeedetermines the strength of the coffeeand the quality of the crema.

The amount of ground coffee can beadjusted in the main menu. See"Settings - Grind amount".

To prevent machine damage adjustthe coffee grinder one notch at atime and let the beans grind beforeadjusting another notch. Otherwisethe machine will be damaged.

The grinder should be adjusted:

– If the espresso flows too quickly intothe cup, the pressure cannot be builtup because the beans have beenground too coarsely. The grindershould be adjusted to a finer setting.

– If the espresso only trickles into thecup, the beans have been groundtoo fine and the coffee will be bitter.The grinder should be adjusted to acoarser setting.

– If the crema is evenly colored butpale, the ground coffee is too coarse.

– If the crema is very dark brown onone side, graduating almost to whiteon the other, the ground coffee is toofine.

To adjust the grinder setting

^ Push the slide control to the left for afiner grind or to the right for a coarsergrind.

You should be able to feel the notcheswhen moving the slide control.

If the slide control will not move:

^ Close the machine and dispense acup of coffee.

Then try to move the slide controlagain.

The coffee system can be customizedto suit individual preferences.

LanguageTo show the displays in the desiredlanguage, select the language beforethe first use.

If the display is turned on, the time ofday is displayed when the machine isturned off.

If the option is set to off, the displayturns off after 60 seconds.

A specific time of day can be set to turnthe machine on, e.g. for breakfast.

The machine will turn on every day atthe selected time.

If the "Rinse" function was set to"On", the lines will be rinsed whenthe machine is turned on.

If the machine is turned onautomatically three times and nobeverages were dispensed, themachine will no longer turn onautomatically. Turn off after

The machine will turn off automaticallyto save energy after a programmedperiod of time. Time periods between15 minutes and 6 hours can beselected. If the machine is not usedafter dispensing beverages, it will turnoff after the selected time.

For example a 0:15 display means thatthe unit will turn off after 15 minutes ofno use.

Steam systemThe appliance has two heatingsystems. They allow for independentpreparation of froth/cappuccino orespresso/coffee. The second heatingsystem can be turned off to saveenergy during the heating phase e.g. iffroth is not prepared very often.

When the steam system is turned offand froth or cappuccino is selected,the unit must heat up first to producesteam.As long as the coffee system wasnot completely turned off, the steamsystem is on.

The steam system is turned on bydefault.

To turn the steam system off

Water hardnessThe hardness of the water used in thecoffee system must be determined andprogrammed into the appliance. Thewater hardness will determine howfrequently the unit must be descaled tomaintain the coffee system properly.The machine monitors the volume ofwater passing through it in conjunctionwith the hardness of the water and willindicate when descaling is necessary.Your local water authority can tell youthe hardness of your tap water or youcan measure it yourself using theenclosed test strip.

^ Dip the test strip in the water for1 second and shake off anyremaining water. The result is visiblein about 1 minute.

If the water hardness is greater than40 gr/gal, the water must bedescaled more often than displayed.Calcium will build up faster than at alower water hardness and maydamage the machine.

The flavor of the coffee depends on thecoffee and quantity of water used. Toensure the machine uses exactly theamount of water to suit your taste andyour cups, there is a choice of twoserving sizes for espresso/coffee. Thefill height can be programmed.

Espresso serving sizeapprox. 30 - 125 ml.

Coffee serving sizeapprox. 30 - 250 ml.

Hot water serving sizeapprox. 30 - 250 ml.

^ Set the desired cup size under thecoffee dispenser.

Cappuccino is a combination of milkfroth and espresso. When preparingmilk froth the froth-time can beindividually set. The amount ofespresso can be set to approx.30 - 125 ml.

^ To set the amount of froth, press andhold "Cappuccino" until the displayshows "Serving setting".

^ Select "OK" once steam and froth aredispensed to your desire. The frothtime has been set.

^ You will then be prompted to movethe coffee cup from under the frothdispenser to the coffee dispenser.

Allow the coffee system to coolbefore cleaning. Danger of burns!

Do not clean the unit with a steamcleaner. Never use cleanerscontaining chlorides, sand, soda orscouring agents. These will damagethe surface.

To avoid mold of coffee waste, cleanthe unit regularly.

All parts can be cleaned in thedishwasher, except the brew unit andthe bean container. When the parts arecleaned in the dishwasher they mightget discolored by food residues suchas tomatoes.

RinseIf you do not wish to rinse the linesautomatically, they have to be flushedmanually. Rinse them twice daily, oncebefore using the machine and beforeturning it off for the day.

Water tankEmpty the water tank daily and refillbefore preparing the first drink withfresh, cold tap water.

Drip trayThe trip tray contains a sensor whichcauses the display to show when thetray is full and needs to be emptied.Clean the drip tray daily.

Remove the drip tray after the finalrinse when no more water runs fromthe lines.

^ Open the door and pull the drip trayout.

The drip tray contains a grid to avoidspilling during transport.

^ Wash the drip tray in the dishwasheror by hand with hot water and liquiddish soap, then dry with a soft cloth.

Take care that the metal contacts atthe back of the drip tray are cleanand dry. If the contacts are soiled orwet the unit cannot detect when thedrip tray is full and needs to beemptied.

Manually clean the brew unit weekly.The movable parts are lubricatedand the gaskets will get damaged inthe dishwasher.

Cleaning/Degreasing the brew unit

Depending on the oil content of thecoffee, the brew unit can clog. Cleanthe brew unit approx. every 200 cupswith the enclosed detergent tablets.They are specially developed for thecoffee maker to optimize thedegreasing. The cleaning tablets canbe purchased from Miele.

As a reminder the display shows"Cleaning must be started" after200 cups and then until the machineis cleaned. The cleaning processtakes about 6 minutes.

Froth dispenser/Intake hoseClean the froth dispenser after eachuse, otherwise it may become blockedwith dried milk and hard to clean.

Rinsing does not replace cleaning inthe dishwasher.

The intake hose takes in the water andrinses it.

Cleaning in the dishwasher

To clean the froth dispenser in thedishwasher, take the parts from themachine. Regular cleaning in thedishwasher is important, so that thefroth dispenser does not clog over time,when milk is not removed duringrinsing.

^ Turn the cover above the spout to theleft, a.

^ Pull the froth dispenser out of themachine, b, holding it by the spoutand the intake hose.

^ Pull all pieces apart. Remove thepiece with the gaskets by turning andpulling it apart.

^ Insert the pieces in the dishwasherand then lubricate the gaskets withthe supplied silicone grease.

Take care that the small holes of thesingle pieces are not clogged (seearrow).Pinch the soft parts to loosen thesoiling, then blow them out.Do not use a needle to removeresidues, the parts may getdamaged.

Stainless steel surfaces

Stainless steel surfaces can be cleanedusing a non-abrasive stainless steelcleaner.

To help prevent soiling, a conditionerfor stainless steel can also be used.Apply sparingly and with evenpressure.

Stainless steel colored controls

Clean the buttons and knobs with asponge and a solution of warmwater and liquid dish soap. Thesecontrols may become discolored ordamaged if not cleaned regularly.Do not use a stainless steel cleaneron the knobs or buttons. Cleanimmediately after use.

The coffee system must be descaledregularly. The appliance will display areminder message to descale and willeventually lock if not descaled.

The display will show "Please descalethe coffee system. Remaining numbersof servings: 50". This message will nowappear after each preparation. If thecounter has elapsed to 0, the appliancewill be locked.

Select "Descaling" to start the descalingimmediately. The descaling takes about20 minutes. If you want to continue at alater point in time, turn the unit off. Theappliance can only be used again oncedescaling is performed.

Only use the enclosed descalingtablets for descaling. They arespecially developed for the coffeesystem to optimize the descaling.The descaling tablets can bepurchased from Miele.Other agents may damage themachine and affect the taste ofcoffee and hot water.The machine could also bedamaged.

Use the supplied descaling funnel toprotect the appliance front from thedescaling agent. Clean up anydescaling spills immediately toavoid damage to the appliance front.Thoroughly clean the water tank andthe drip tray of descaling residues.

Descaling^ To descale the unit before it is heated

up, select "Descaling" in the mainmenu.

^ To start the descaling process beforeprompted by the machine (e.g.because of very hard water), select"Care".

^ Select "Descaling" and then "OK".

The display prompts the user throughthe single steps of the descalingprocess. Follow the prompts.

If the descaling is started while themachine is still hot, the appliancewill cool down for 10 minutes beforethe descaling begins.

The descaling process cannot becanceled once "OK" is selected. Theprocess now needs to becompleted. This is a safety feature toensure the process will becompleted. It is important for bestresults and the longevity of themachine.

– take the water tank out

– fill the water tank with fresh lukewarmtap water to the mark k. If not filledto the mark, the descaling will becanceled prematurely andincomplete

Dissolve two of the encloseddescaling tablets in the water. Closethe water tank and insert intoposition.

^ Set the descaling funnels under thecoffee dispensers. Set the funnel inthe holes of the drip tray so thedispensed liquids are guided in thedrip tray.

During the descaling process thedescaling solution will flow from the hotwater and coffee dispensers. Themachine rests briefly to allow thesolution to take affect beforedispensing again.

^ Please fill the water tank with tapwater to the descaling mark andreinsert it: Take the water tank out,rinse out any descaling residuesthoroughly with water. Fill with freshwater to the k mark.

During rinsing water runs from thedispensers. When the display showsPlease empty the drip tray: Empty thedrip tray. Since the machine is alsorinsed inside, the drip tray needs to beemptied to continue rinsing.

When the display shows: Processfinished: Descaling is complete. Followthe prompts in the display. Theappliance is rinsed a final time.

Since the lines are drained duringdescaling, they must be filled withwater before the next use. See"Making coffee - Cappuccino andmilk froth".

Descaling the appliance

The light does not illuminate when the appliance is turned on.

The display messages are difficult to read.

– Call Miele's Technical ServiceDepartment.

– Plug in the machine.

The door cannot be closed.

Check if all containers are properly inserted.

The door is hard to open and close, and the gasket of the connector ispulled off.

The gasket of the coffee dispenser connector is damaged and leaking.

No water, steam or milk is dispensed from the froth dispenser.

– The water tank is not correctlyinserted.

– The dispenser is clogged.

– Take out the water tank and reinsert it.– Clean the froth dispenser as described

The grinding sounds louder than usual.

There could be pebbles within thecoffee beans.

Turn off the unit immediately.Contact the Miele's Tech. Service.

The grinding is quieter than usual.

The coffee bean container is empty.The respective message appears inthe display.

Wait until no sound is heard and refill thecoffee bean container.

The coffee/espresso flows too fast into the cup.

– Were the supply lines pre-heated?

– The temperature is set too low.

– Check if the brew unit is clogged.

– The smaller the cup, the moreimportant it is to pre-heat.

– Check on what temperature range thecoffee type is set.

No drink is prepared although the beans were grinded and enough water isin the container.

– The grind control is set to the finestor the grind amount is set to themaximum.

– The process is timed, the processmight need so long, there is notime for brewing any more.

The steam heating system is turned off but steam can still dispensed.

Steam can be dispensed as long as the steam heating system is heated. Once ithas cooled, steam can only be dispensed once the steam system has heated.

The coffee dispensing is interrupted.

The water tank is empty. Refill the water tank with fresh cold tapwater.

Instead of coffee only water is dispensed.

– The beans may have gotten stuck.

– The ground coffee funnel coverwas opened and closed and apreparation with ground coffeewas selected but no ground coffeewas inserted.The coffee system switchesautomatically back to beans useafter the preparation.

– Pull the bean container out and push itback in.

The drip tray is empty but a message to empty it is displayed.

– The metal contacts are soiled orwet.

– Check if the drip tray is insertedcorrectly.

– Clean and dry the contacts.

– Insert the drip tray as described in"Cleaning and Care - Drip tray".

– Turn the machine off and on again withthe main switch.

The machine does not rinse when turned on although the automatic rinsefeature is set to "On".

When the machine is still at a temperature of about 140°F (60°C). The machinewill not rinse when it's too hot.

The water dispensing stops when programming the serving size.

– There was not enough water in thetank. The dispensed water amountwill not be saved.

– If the maximum water amount isdispensed, the water flow stopsautomatically. The maximum wateramount is saved.

– Fill the water tank before programmingthe serving size.

Water is in the waste unit.

This is not a fault. This is residual water from the cleaningprocess.

"Coffee water" is in the waste unit.

If the grind control is set to very fine,there might be coffee water in thewaste unit.

If the grind control is not set to very fine,contact Technical Service.

The descaling process was started accidently.

The descaling process cannot be canceled once it is started. The process needsnow to be completed. This is a safety feature to ensure the process will becompleted. It is important for best results and the longevity of the machine.

The preheating time is increased, the water flow amount is not correct andthe unit performs less?

The machine needs to be descaled. See "Descaling the appliance".

No water flows from the spouts.

The filters in the brew unit areclogged.

Rub any residue off the filters with asponge.

The brew unit or waste unit could not be pulled from the machine.

– The brew unit is not in the basicposition.

– The door was opened duringgrinding or brewing.

– Close the door. The brew unitautomatically gets into the basicposition.

No crema has formed or it is "different".

– Check if the grind control is set toocoarse or too fine.

– Check what temperature range thecoffee type is set. If thetemperature is too high, there areblack areas in the crema.

– The coffee is not fresh enough.– The coffee is unsuitable for use in this

machine. See "Filling the beanscontainer".

– The coffee dispensers are set too high.

Too much crema has formed and is above the coffee dispensers.

Some coffee types produce toomuch crema when the coffee /espresso temperature is set to themaximum and the amount of groundcoffee is too much.

Lower the temperature and amount ofground coffee.

The milk froth does not flow but "spits".

Before using for the first time the water lines need to be filled. See "Makingcoffee - Cappuccino and milk froth".

When preparing milk froth for the first time, the milk is spit from the mug.

The door was opened during theheating phase. High steam pressurehas built making the steamdispensed too strong when the valveis opened.

Keep the door closed during the heatingphase.

The message F 10 or F 17 shows in the display.

No water is dispensed. – The water tank is not inserted properly.Take it out and reinsert correctly.

A combination with other Miele built inappliances is possible. If the machineis installed in combination with otherappliances, it should be installed with aprotective base between the applianceand the unit (exception: installation witha built-in plate warmer).

A special display cabinet is alsoavailable from your dealer or Miele, asan installation option.

Installation

Make sure power is not supplied tothe appliance while installation ormaintenance work is performed.Disconnect the power supply to thework area by unplugging the unit,tripping the circuit breaker orremoving the fuse. The coffeesystem must be installed intocabinetry before being used.

^ Unscrew the height adjustable feeton the underside of the machineabout 1/16" (2 mm).

^ Push the appliance all the way backinto the cabinet and center it. Ifnecessary level the unit with the fourheight adjustable feet.

The feet can be turned out up to 3/8"(10 mm).

^ If your cabinet has 3/4" (19 mm) sidewalls, drill four holes for themounting.

^ Center the unit and turn the screws alittle bit in and then out again.

^ Take the unit out of the niche and drillfour holes at the screw markings(1/16" [2 mm], diameter 3/16"[4.5 mm]).

^ Connect the appliance to a coldwater supply.

^ Plug the appliance into the electricaloutlet.

^ Push the appliance into the niche.

^ Open the door and partially tightenthe screws.

^ Carefully turn the lower screws, a, tocenter the machine.

^ To secure the appliance in thecabinet, tighten the upper screws, b,by hand. Do not use an electricscrewdriver.
