Technical safety

Unauthorised installation, maintenance and repairs can causeconsiderable danger for the user. Installation, maintenance and re-pairs must only be carried out by a Miele authorised technician.

Do not use a damaged appliance. It could be dangerous. Checkthe hob for visible signs of damage.

Reliable and safe operation of this hob can only be assured if ithas been connected to the mains electricity supply.

The electrical safety of this hob can only be guaranteed when cor-rectly earthed. It is essential that this standard safety requirement ismet. If in any doubt please have the electrical installation tested by aqualified electrician.

To avoid the risk of damage to the hob, make sure that the con-nection data on the data plate (voltage and frequency) match themains electricity supply before connecting it to the mains. Consult a qualified electrician if in doubt.

Do not connect the hob to the mains electrical supply by a multi-socket adapter or extension lead. These are a fire hazard and do notguarantee the required safety of the appliance.

For safety reasons, this hob may only be used after it has beenbuilt in.

This hob must not be used in a non-stationary location (e.g. on aship).

Never open the casing of the hob.Touching or tampering with electrical connections or componentsand mechanical parts is highly dangerous to the user and can causeoperational faults.

While the hob is under guarantee, repairs should only be under-taken by a Miele authorised service technician. Otherwise the guar-antee is invalidated.

Miele can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when genu-ine original Miele replacement parts are used. Faulty componentsmust only be replaced by Miele spare parts.

The hob is not intended for use with an external timer switch or aremote control system.

Connection to the gas supply must be carried out by a suitablyqualified gas fitter (e.g. a Gas Safe registered technician in the U.K).

The hob may be connected to the electrical supply by a fused plugand switched socket. If you wish to connect it to a fused spur con-nection, or if the plug has been removed or the connection cable isnot supplied with a plug, the hob must be connected to the mainssupply by a suitably qualified electrician.

If the connection cable is damaged, it must be replaced by a suit-ably qualified electrician with a special connection cable of type H05 VV-F (pvc insulated). See "Electrical connection".

During installation, maintenance and repair work, the hob must bedisconnected from the mains electricity supply. The gas supply mustalso be shut off. Depending on country this is done in one of severaldifferent ways:

– the mains fuse has been disconnected, or

– the screw-out fuse is removed (in countries where this is applic-able), or

– switch off at the wall socket and withdraw the plug from thesocket. Pull by the plug and not by the mains connection cable todisconnect from the mains electricity supply.

– the gas inlet valve is closed.

Danger of electric shock!Do not use the hob if it is faulty. Switch it off immediately, discon-nect it from the mains electricity supply and the gas supply and con-tact Miele.

If the appliance is installed behind a furniture door, do not closethe door while the appliance is in operation. Heat and moisturewould build up behind a closed furniture door, potentially causingdamage to the appliance, the furniture unit and the flooring. Wait un-til the appliance has cooled down completely before closing the fur-niture door.

Correct use

The appliance gets hot when in use and remains hot for sometime after being switched off. Do not touch the appliance if there is apossibility that it could still be hot.

Due to the high temperatures radiated, objects left near the hobwhen it is in use could catch fire. Do not use the hob to heat up the room.

Oil and fat can overheat and catch fire. Do not leave the hob unat-tended when cooking with oil and fat. If it does ignite do not attemptto put the flames out with water.Disconnect the hob from the mains and use a suitable fire blanket, saucepan lid, damp towel or similar to smother the flames.

Flames could set the grease filters of a cooker hood on fire. Donot flambé under a cooker hood.

Spray canisters, aerosols and other inflammable substances canignite when heated. Therefore do not store such items or substancesin a drawer under the hob. Cutlery inserts must be heat-resistant.

Do not heat an empty pan.

Do not heat up food in closed containers e.g. tins or sealed jarson the hob, as pressure can build up in the container, causing it toexplode.

Do not cover the hob, e.g. with a hob cover, a cloth or protectivefoil. The material could catch fire, shatter or melt if the hob isswitched on by mistake or if residual heat is still present.

When the hob is switched on either deliberately or by mistake, orwhen there is residual heat present, there is the risk of any metalitems left on the hob heating up, with the danger of burning. De-pending on the material, other items left on the appliance could alsomelt or catch fire. Do not use the hob as a resting place.

Page 13: Operating and installation instructions Gas hobs · Operating and installation instructions Gas hobs To avoid the risk of accidents or damage to the appliance it is essential to read

Warning and Safety instructions

13

You could burn yourself on the hot hob. Protect your hands withheat-resistant pot holders or gloves when handling hot pots andpans. Do not let them get wet or damp, as this causes heat to trans-fer through the material more quickly with the risk of scalding orburning yourself on steam. Be sure to keep all textiles away from thegas flames. Do not use oversized cloths, tea towels or other similarmaterials.

When using an electrical appliance, e.g. a hand-held food blender, near the hob, ensure that the cable of the electrical appliance cannotcome into contact with the hot hob. The insulation on the cablecould become damaged.

Plastic and aluminium foil containers melt at high temperatures.Do not use plastic or aluminium foil containers on the hob.

If a cooker hood is installed above the hob, ensure that the burn-ers are always covered with a pan when in use. Otherwise flamescould reach the cooker hood, parts of which could then be damagedor even set on fire.

Only light the gas burners after all burner parts have been properlyassembled.

Pans must be the correct size for the burner they are used on (see"Suitable Pans"). A pan which is too small will be unstable on thepan support. If the pan diameter is too large, flames can spread outto the sides and damage or burn the worktop, wall claddings or sur-rounding units and also parts of the hob. Miele cannot be held liablefor this type of damage.

Ensure that the flames from the burner do not spread out beyondthe base and up the sides of the pan.

Do not use pans with very thin bases on this hob, and never heatup empty pans as they could get damaged. This could also damagethe appliance.

Warning and Safety instructions

14

The pan support supplied with the appliance must always beused. Never place a pan on the burner itself.

Replace the pan supports carefully to avoid scratching the surfaceof the hob.

Do not use or store flammable materials near this hob.

Remove splashes of fat and other food debris from the surface ofthe hob as soon as possible. These are a fire hazard.

Avoid allowing liquids or foods containing salt to spill onto thehob. If salty foods or liquids do get on the hob, they should be re-moved as soon as possible to avoid the risk of corrosion.

Using the hob will cause a build-up of heat and moisture in theroom in which it is installed. Ensure that the room has sufficient nat-ural or mechanical means of ventilation, e.g. a cooker hood.

If the hob is used for very long periods of time, additional ventila-tion of the room may be necessary, e.g. by opening windows ordoors, or running the cooker hood on the highest setting.

Do not use roasting dishes, pans or grilling stones that are largeenough to cover more than one burner. The resulting build-up ofheat could damage the hob.

If the hob has not been used for a long period of time it should bethoroughly cleaned before it is used again. It is also advisable tohave the appliance tested by a qualified person for safety.

– Select cookware that fits the size ofthe burner:Large diameter = large burnerSmall diameter = small burner.

– Refer to the chart above and ensurethat the pan diameter falls within theminimum and maximum diametersgiven for the burner you are using. Ifthe pan diameter is too large, flamescan spread out to the sides and dam-age or burn the worktop, wall clad-dings or surrounding units and alsoparts of the hob or other appliances. Pans which are too small for the pansupports, or pans which do not sitsecurely on the pan supports, aredangerous and should not be used.

– Unlike pans that are used on an elec-tric hob, the bottom of pans used ona gas hob do not have to be flat todeliver good cooking results.

– Remember when purchasing newpans that manufacturers usually referto the diameter at the top of the panin their documentation, and not to thebase diameter.

– Any heat-resistant pans can be usedon a gas burner.

– Pans with thick bases are preferableas these distribute heat more evenly. With thin bases, there is a danger offood overheating in places. Stir thefood frequently.

– Always place cookware on the pansupport supplied with the appliance.Never place it directly on the burner.

– Position the cookware centrally onthe pan support so that it sits se-curely and cannot tip. A little move-ment is quite normal and not a causefor concern.

– Do not use pots or pans that havebases with pronounced edges.

Combination trivetThe combination trivet must be used if

– you wish to use a pan with a smallerdiameter base than the minimumgiven in the table.

– you are using large pans on the wokburner of a flush fit hob. It minimisesthe likelihood of damage to the work-

Operation

25

Fire hazard.Do not leave the appliance unatten-ded whilst it is being used.

Switching on The control for the burner must be

pressed in and turned anti-clockwiseto the large flame symbol to switchon. The ignitor will "click" and ignitethe gas.

When a control knob is activated, aspark is developed automatically at allrings. This is normal and does not in-dicate a defect.

When a flame is visible, keep thecontrol knob pressed in for5-10 seconds, and then let it go.

If the burner does not ignite, turn thecontrol knob back to "". Air the roomor wait at least one minute before try-ing again. Try keeping the controlknob pressed in for a little longer thenext time.

If the burner does not ignite thesecond time, turn the control knobback to "" and see "Problem solvingguide".

Switching on during a power outage

If there is an interruption to the electri-city supply, the gas can be ignitedmanually, e.g. with a match.

Press in the relevant control and turnit anti-clockwise to the large flamesymbol.

Hold the control pressed in and lightthe gas at the burner with a match.

Keep the control pressed in for a fur-ther 5-10 seconds and then release it.

Page 26: Operating and installation instructions Gas hobs · Operating and installation instructions Gas hobs To avoid the risk of accidents or damage to the appliance it is essential to read

Operation

26

Adjusting the flameThe burners can be regulated at anylevel between the strongest and weak-est flame.

As the outer part of the flame is muchhotter than the centre, the tips of theflames should stay beneath the panbase. Flame tips which extend beyondthe sides of the pan merely warm upthe air in the room and can also dam-age pan handles and increase thedanger of injury.

Adjust the flame so that it does notspread out beyond the sides of thepan.

Switching off Turn the control clockwise to position

"".

This stops the flow of gas and the flamegoes out.

Page 27: Operating and installation instructions Gas hobs · Operating and installation instructions Gas hobs To avoid the risk of accidents or damage to the appliance it is essential to read

Safety features

27

Thermo-electric flame failuremonitorThis hob has a thermo-electric flamefailure monitor. If the flame goes out, forexample because food has boiled overor if there has been a sudden draught, the supply of gas to the burner will becut off. This will prevent any gas escap-ing. To use the burner again, turn thecontrol knob to "".

The thermo-electric flame failure mon-itor operates independently from theelectricity supply. This means that itwill still work if the hob is used duringa power cut.

Page 28: Operating and installation instructions Gas hobs · Operating and installation instructions Gas hobs To avoid the risk of accidents or damage to the appliance it is essential to read

Cleaning and care

28

Danger of burning. The burners must be switched off.The hob needs to cool down.

Danger of injury. The steam from a steam cleaning ap-pliance could reach electrical com-ponents and cause a short circuit.Do not use a steam cleaner to cleanthe hob.

Fit the wall units and cooker hood before fitting the hob to avoid damaging thehob.

The veneer or laminate coatings of worktops (or adjacent kitchenunits) must be treated with 100 °C heat-resistant adhesive which willnot dissolve or distort. Any backmoulds must be of heat-resistantmaterial.

The hob must not be installed over a fridge, fridge-freezer, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, washer-dryer or tumble dryer.

A gas hob must not be installed directly next to a deep fat fryer asthe gas flames could ignite the fat in the fryer. It is essential to main-tain a distance of at least 300 mm between these two appliances.

When installing the hob, make sure that the gas pipe and elec-trical connection cable cannot come into contact with hot applianceparts.

The electrical cable and any flexible gas connection pipes must beinstalled in such a way so that they do not come into contact withany moving kitchen parts (e.g. a drawer), and cannot becometrapped.

Observe carefully the safety clearances listed on the followingpages. All dimensions are given in mm.
