GENERALINFORMATION

EnrollmentAt the time of enrollment, youwill be asked to complete our online enrollment processthroughFACTSandpayanon-refundableregistrationfeeof$25toholdyourspot inourprogram(s).Youwillbeassessedone(1)registrationfeeperchild.

TuitionandTuitionPaymentsYearly tuition pricing can be found on the Opendoor School website(http://www.opendooreducation.com/school.html) and is based on 12 month pricing;however,youmayaskusabout10monthpricingoptions.Tuitionpaymentswillbemadevia bank draft through FACTS (we do not offer credit card payments at this time) onFridaysforthefollowingperiod,dependingonthefrequencyyoudecide:

Youwill receiveanemail fromourbusinessmanager in July/August to confirm thedateandamount(s)ofyourdraft.Pleaserespondtothatemailtoconfirmacceptance.

InsufficientFundsPolicyWeunderstandthingshappen,butifanytypeofpaymentisreturnedforinsufficientfunds,ourpolicyisasfollows:

1. First Offense – a returned payment fee of $25.00will be assessed to youraccount.Wewillnotifyyouofthereturnedpaymentandgiveyoutheoptionfor us to re-run the returned check or provide another form of paymentwithinforty-eight(48)hours.Ifyouneedtomakeadditionalarrangements,pleasediscussthiswithusimmediately.

2. SecondOffense(withinayear fromthe firstoffense)–areturnedpaymentfee of $25.00 will be assessed to your account. Wewill notify you of thereturnedpaymentandwillneedtomakeaCASHONLYpaymenttocoverthepayment thatwas returned. Your accountwill bemarked as CASHONLY.After one (1) year from thedate of the returned check, if timelypaymentshavebeenmade,wewillremoveyouraccountfromcashonly.

3. ThirdOffense – a returnedpayment fee of $25.00will be assessed to youraccount. Wewill notify youof the returnedpayment andyouwill need tomakeaCASHONLYpaymentIMMEDIATELYtocoverthepaymentthatwasreturned(orbalanceinfull)alongwiththereturnedpaymentfee. Weholdthe right to remove your child from our facility and in order for them toreturn,youwillneedtopayamonthinadvance.

TerminatingContractIf, for whatever reason, you need to terminate your enrollment in our programs, werequire a two (2)weeknotice starting on aMonday and ending ten (10) business

dayslater.OpendoorEducationmayterminatethiscontractatanytimedependingon the circumstances in consideration of the welfare of the children and staff.OpendoorEducationwillrefundanyoverpaymentsunlesstherehasbeenafailuretogiveatwo(2)weeknotice,whichwillresultinforfeitureofrefundingover-payment.

PhotoandVideoConsentPhotosandvideoswillbetakenthroughouttheyear.Theymaybepostedonsocialmediasuchas,butnot limited to:Facebook,Twitter, and Instagram. Weareveryproudof theprogramsatOpendoorEducationandthesephotosandvideoscanbeusedtopromoteourprogram in a positive way and give you a glimpse of the activities and fun that yourchild(ren)arehaving.

ClosingandDelaysIntheeventofadelayorclosing,wewillemailyoutonotifyyouofurgentannouncements,aswell as posting closing updates on FACTS. Please be sure tomake us aware of emailaddress changes to ensure you receive important information. In the event of any lastminutedelaysorcancellationsthatmayaffectyourdropofforpickupschedule,youwillreceiveanemailmessage.WewillalsopostonourInstagrampages:opendoorchurch.cdc(for Child Development Center), opendoor.school (for Opendoor School) andopendoor.afterschool(forAfterSchool).Westronglyencourageyoutofollowforupdatesonyourchild’sprogramandforanyannouncementsthatmayapplytoyouandyourchild.

DropOff/PickUpProceduresOpendoor School wants our students to develop independence and confidence that willserve them well in the classroom. We want our teachers to make the most of theirinstructionaltime.Beginningat7:00AM,studentsmaybeescortedbyaguardiantotheBeforeSchoolEarlyBirdareadownstairs,wherethestudentsmustbesignedin.From7:45-8:00AM,studentsshouldbedroppedoffinthecarlineatthedoorbetweentheChurchandEducationBuildings.

▪ Exceptasprovidedbelow,parentsareaskedtorefrainfromwalkingtheirchildrentoindividualclassroomssothatteacherscanhaveuninterruptedtimeeachmorningtoprepare forthedayandwelcometheirstudentstoclass.Morningdropoff timeshouldnotbeusedforparent-teacherinteraction.Teachersarealwaysavailabletoourparents;however,werequestthatparentsschedulethesetimeswithteachersbycontactingtheminadvance.o Exception:Duringthe first twoweeksofschool,parentsarepermittedtowalk

theirKindergartenandFirstGradestudentstotheirclassrooms.Parentswill be issued two key cards at the time of their enrollment in OpendoorEducation. The cards are to be used only by the student’s father, mother andauthorizedpickup’sthatarelistedintheStudentfile.NooneelseshouldusethatkeycardtoenteranybuildingonOpendoorEducation’scampusatanytime.Cardsareactivebetween 7:00AM and 7:45AM for Before School Care. If visiting Opendoor School after7:45,pleasecheckinattheChildDevelopmentCenterfrontdesk.At the beginning of each school year families are issued two (2) car tags that are to behookedontherearviewmirrorofthevehicleinthecarpoolline.ALLparentsareaskedtousethecarpool lineorwalkuptotheEducationBuildingdoubledoorentranceforregularschooldismissals.Parentsareaskedtostayintheirvehicleduringpickupanddropoffwheninthecarpoollinetoensurethesafetyofeachchild.

AfterSchoolCareStudentsintheOpendoorAfterSchoolprogramwillbecheckedintoAfterSchoolattheendoftheschoolday.Ifyouhaveanychangesinpickupfortheschoolday,theymustbecommunicatedby1:30pm to theMainOffice. Theywill then relay it to the student’sclassroomteacher. AllcommunicationwithAfterSchoolmustbecommunicatedto themdirectly.OpendoorSchool staffwillnotberesponsible forrelayingmessages to theAfter School program. Only students enrolled in Opendoor After School arepermittedtobecheckedintotheprogram.

TeachingStyleCentraltoeverythingwedoatOpendoorisourheartforGodandourbeliefthateverychildhasaGod-givenpotentialanddestiny.Ourprimaryresponsibilityistoleadstudentscloserto a relationshipwith Jesus Christ and see them pursue the calling God has for each ofthem. In addition to advanced and challenging academics we offer art, music, physicaleducation, and technology. We want to prepare our students to excel in their lives asprofessionals,leaders,andfollowersofJesusChrist.

LicensedTeachersWevaluetheeducationofourstudentsandourheartistocreateasafeenvironmentwheretheyfeellovedandcaredfor,butalsochallengedacademically.Thatiswhywehavestatelicensed teacherswith the talentandskill tocreateacollaborative learningenvironmentthatadvancestheirlearningandinspiresthemtogrowmentallyandspiritually.

HomeworkpolicyWe believe the purpose of homework is to drive home concepts that are taught in theclassroom. It isnotmeant tobe frustrating,excessively timeconsumingorpointless. Allhomeworkgivenisintentional.Studentscanexpectlessthanone(1)hourofhomeworkanight.

ENCOREClassesWe are proud to offer every Opendoor School elementary studentwith an Encore classeach day. Student’s horizons are broadened through Art, Music, Library, PhysicalEducationandTechnologyclasseseachweek.ENCOREclasses:

▪ TeachStateandNationalStandardsinalltheENCOREsubjects.▪ Continuallyconductformativeassessmentsduringinstructionaltimetoensurethe

continualdevelopmentofindividualstudentskillandcomprehension.▪ Maintain high expectations by 1) continually producing high-quality student

artifacts and 2) occasionally participating in events that demonstrate studentcommandof concepts taught inENCOREclasses. (i.e.FieldDay, concerts, exhibits,etc.)

ENCORE classes meet for 6 hours total each 9-weeks. This includes instructional time,groupwork,individualwork,andproceduralclassroomactivities.Aparticipationgradeisthe only appropriate mark to assign given the time constraint. Summative assessmentsrequireadatacollectionprocess(pre,post,review)thatisnotfeasibleandinappropriateforanelementaryENCOREclass.ENCORE grades are Participation grades – they are not grades for good behavior.Studentsmustparticipateintheactivities/lessonspresentedinENCOREclasses.

● ENCOREGrades(Kindergarten-5thGrade):P–ParticipatoryNP–Non-Participatory

ENCOREgradesareassignedaccordingtoindividualstudentparticipation. Studentswhoparticipate in all ENCORE class sessions for which they are present will receive a “P”.Studentswhodonotparticipate in3ormoreENCOREclass sessions forwhich they arepresentwillreceivean“N”. Parentswillbenotifiedifastudenthasnotparticipatedin2ENCOREclasssessionsina9-weekmarkingperiodandisindangerofreceivingan“N”ontheirreportcard.Behaviorcanbeasignificantfactorinparticipation.StudentswhoexhibitpoorbehavioralchoicesinanENCOREclasswillbeextendedthefollowingopportunities:

1) VerbalWarning(s).2) Briefremovalfromthegroup–allowedtorejointhegroupafterreflection.3) Removalfromthegroup–notallowedtoparticipateintheremainderoftheclass

session.Please note: Steps 1 and 2may be omitted if a student is placing themselves orothersinimmediatedanger.

Private and groupmusic lessons are provided after school at different times during theyear through After School Electives. For more information on pricing and placement,pleasecontacttheMainOffice.

TestingThird-Fifth graderswill be administered theNorth Carolina EOG testwithin the last ten(10) days of each school year. Studentsmust take and complete the test in order to bepromotedtothenextgrade.WedonotviewtheEOGaspass/failtestbutitmaybeusedtodecidepromotionorretentionforstudentswhoarestrugglingincertainacademicareas.ThirdarealsorequiredbyNorthCarolina’sDepartmentofNon-PublicEducationtotakeaNational Standardized Test. Opendoor School has chosen to administer the CaliforniaAchievementTest,whichtakesplaceoverthecourseoftwomornings.

PromotionPolicyThefacultyandadministrationattheendofeachacademicyearwilldetermineastudent’spromotiontothenextgradelevel.Astudentwhohasafailinggradeorhasnotmasteredtheskillsnecessary for thenextgrademaybeheldbackuntil suchmastery isevident. Ifthereisapossibilitythatastudentwillberetained,parentswillbeinformedthatthechildhas entered into our Retention Process. The process provides various levels ofintervention: concern, probation, possible retention, probable retention, and retention.Aformshowingthestudent’sprogressandtheteacher’sstrategiesforhelpingthisprogresswillbegintheRetentionInterventionProcess.Theteacherwilldiscussthisprocessindetailwithparents.Elementary students currently at Opendoor School must meet all the following basiccriteriaforpromotiontothenextsuccessivegrade:

▪ PassReading,Math,andEnglish(ELA)withatleasta60%average.▪ Havenomorethanonefailinggradeperquarterinanyotheracademicsubject(e.g.

Math,Science,etc.)andnomorethantwofailinggradesinthesamesubjectwithinanacademicyear.

Academic/CharacterAwardsAt the conclusion of eachmarking period, eligible studentsmay be recognized for theiracademicstanding,characterorattendance. Academicandattendanceawardsarebasedonstudentdatawhileteachersandadministrationgivecharacterawardstostudentswhoexemplifyextraordinaryleadershipskills.

DisabilitiesPolicyTo uphold academic excellence, Opendoor School will not modify ANY work for ANYstudent without documentation. We are not specifically equipped to offer academicsupport to some students with learning disabilities, while we do not employ a specialeducation teacher, guidance counselor or school psychologist.Aswe seek toprovide thebesteducationpossible toeverystudent inourschool,weresolve toholdall students tothesameeducationalstandards.Thismeansthatweretaintherighttoevaluatestudentsaccordingtoourstandards,eveniftheyreceiveoutsidetutoringandservices.Studentswithdisabilitiesareacceptedatacasebycasebasis.Itisourgoaltoserveeachstudentofourschoolandmeeteveryneedthattheyhave.

ConflictofInterestStudentsarenotpermittedtobetutoredbytheirclassroomteacher.ParentsmayprivatelyhireanotherOpendoorSchoolfacultymemberorAfterSchoolteacheriftheychoose.ThisisdoneindependentlyandnotthroughOpendoorSchool.

CLASSROOMGUIDELINES

LunchandSnacks

Kindergarten-FifthGrade–K-5thGradestudentswillneedtobringalight,healthysnackalongwithlunchfromhomeeachday.Studentlunchescannotberefrigerated.Only3rd-5thgradestudentsarepermittedtouseamicrowaveforlunchesandmustbeabletodosoindependently.Youmaybeaskedtosignawaiver.Threetimesaweek,youwillhave theopportunity toorderaHotLunch froma local restaurantthatwillbedeliveredtous.***Becausewehave studentswith foodallergies,OpendoorSchool is aNUT-FREE environment, which includes foods with peanuts and other tree nuts.Please check the ingredient list on foods that you send with your child forsnacksandlunches.

***Studentsareexpected tobring luncheswith them in themorning. If youare bringing your child’s lunch, it MUST be dropped off by 11:15am at themainoffice. Youarenotpermitted to takeyourchild’s lunchdirectly to theclassroom.

VisitorsandVolunteersAny visitors and volunteers, including parents, MUST check-in at the Main Office inBuilding2andreceiveaVisitorPassuponarrivaloncampusbetweenthehoursof8:00am-2:45pm. Yourchild’ssafetyanduseofclassroomtimeisoftheutmost importance. Thisincludesdroppingoffitemsduringinstructionaltime.Doorcodeswillnotworkduringthehoursof8:00am-2:45pm.

PartyInvitationsWewillbegladtoputpartyinvitationsinstudentfolderswheninvitationsareextendedtothewholeclassorallmaleorallfemalestudents.Iffamilieschoosetoinviteonlyspecificstudents(andnotthewholeclass),weaskthatthoseinvitationsbemaileddirectlytothehomeaddresses.Theschoolwillnotprovidestudentaddresses.

CelebratedOccasionsThe following special occasions may be celebrated at Opendoor School. Teachers arepermittedtocelebratehowtheychooseandfacilitatetheplanningoftheseevents.

▪ Ultimate Treat Day (Opendoor Education does not celebrate Halloween but as analternative, teachers may allow students to dress up as this is our scheduled SpiritWeekandparentsmaybeaskedtosendcandytobegivenout.)

AnyfoodthatisbroughttoschoolforpartiesMUSTbestorebought.OpendoorSchooldoes not permit food or treats to be given to students that are hand prepared by non-licensedkitchens.Thisincludescupcakes,cake,etc.forbirthdaycelebrations.Duetofoodallergies,theteachermayrequestparticularfoodsthatallstudentscansafelyeat.

HealthGuidelines

IllnessorInjuryIt is expected that students are sent to school healthy, well rested, and ready forclass.

▪ Studentswithfevers,diarrhea,vomiting,contagiousviruses,severecolds,andthelikewillbesenthometoavoidinfectingothers.Studentsmustbefreeoffever,vomitingand/ordiarrheafortwenty-four(24)hourswithouttheaidofmedicationbeforereturningtoschool.

▪ Should a studentbecome ill or receive an injurywhile at school, theparentwillbecalledifdeemednecessary.Firstaidwillbegiven,butschoolpersonnelwill not administer medications unless previously arranged with parents.Studentswhoarelethargic,tired,andunabletoperform/participateatschoolwillbesenthomeforneededrestandrecuperation.

ImmunizationsCertificatesofimmunizationmustbeonfilewiththeschoolwithinthefirstthirty(30)daysofschool.Studentsmaynotbeadmittedtoclasswithoutcompleterecordsafterthattime.CertificatesofimmunizationsshallbeprovidedforstudentsfortheirKindergartenand6thgradeyears.Parentalexemptionsformoral,religiousormedicalreasonsmustbeproperlydocumented in the student filewithin the first thirty (30) day period. If parents fail toprovidesuchdocumentation,thestudentwillnotbeallowedtoattendclassuntiltheform(s)aresubmittedtotheschooloffice.

HeadLiceOutbreaks of head lice are common among children in schools, affecting all social andeconomic groups. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),current evidence does not support classroom or school-wide screening for head lice toreduce the number of head lice infestations among school children. Should a student bediagnosedwith livehead lice, the student’sparent(s)will benotifiedby the school rightawayandageneralcommunicationwillbesenttothegradeleveloftheaffectedstudenttoprevent further spread. Studentswill not be allowed to come to school until after a licetreatmenthasbeenperformedandtheheadhasbeenexaminedforlice.

MedicationsIf a student is inneedof specificover-the-countermedicationduring the schoolday, theparentmustbringittotheschoolwithwritteninstructionsontheproperadministrationofsuchmedication(s). If prescriptionmedication or any other non-prescriptionmedication

prescribedbyaphysicianistobeadministeredduringtheschoolday,parentsshallhavethe “Opendoor Education Authorization for Medication” form completed by aphysician/medical provider. For the convenience of our families and becausemost localmedicalprovidersroutinelystock“PittCountySchoolsAuthorizationforMedication”(form#EPS-50),thisformisanacceptablesubstitutefortheOpendoorSchoolAuthorizationforMedication.Nomedicationsmaybekeptinthestudent’spossessionorinhis/herlocker,desk,orbookbag,withtheexceptionofasthmainhalersandEpipensandasauthorizedbythemedicalprovider’ssignatureontheEPS-50“GreenForm”.AllasthmainhalersandEpipensshouldbelabeledwiththechild’sname.Aparentapprovalformforthegeneraladministrationofover-the-counterdrugssuchasTylenol,ibuprofen,coughdrops,andantacids,mustalsobeon file in the school office before the school will administer such medications. Thesemedications will be administered to the student by the Receptionist, Teacher, orAdministrationandonlywithpermissionfromtheparent.If prescriptionmedication is needed on a regular day-to-day schedule, itmust bekeptanddispensed fromtheschooloffice. It is theparent’sresponsibility tomakesurethatallprescriptionsarecurrent(notexpired)andup-to-date.

FireDrillsAs required by the State, fire drillswill be held the firstweek of school andmonthly atvarioustimesduringtheschoolday.Theteachersandstaffwillacquaintthestudentswiththeproperprocedurestobefollowedduringafiredrill.Amapoftheevacuationplanwillbe posted in each classroom, and each teacher will ensure that the students fullyunderstandtheevacuationprocedureandroute.

TornadoDrillsAminimum of once per year, the schoolwill conduct tornado drills. All students are toproceedtotheplacedesignatedbytheclassroomteacher,kneelingwiththeirheadskeptdownand towardawall.Parents shouldnotpickup their children fromschoolduringatornadowarning.

SchoolSecurity/LockdownPoliciesWetakethesafetyandwell-beingofallourstudentsandfacultyveryseriously.Wehavetherefore established policies and procedures in the unfortunate event of a “schoollockdown.”Regulardrillswillbeinstitutedthroughouttheyeartoprepareourfaculty/staffandstudentsforsuchevents.Giventhemultipleandvaryingsituationsthatarepossibleina“lockdown”scenario,itisnotpossibletooutlineallthedetailshere.Pleaseknowthatwehavedrafted,withplanstocontinuallyimprove,ourpoliciesandprocedurestothebestofour abilities, after consulting with experts on this subject, including other schools, andespecially various local law enforcement agencies.We realize that some of our younger

childrenmay be especially sensitive to “lockdown drills.” However, drills are absolutelynecessaryforadequatepreparationforanactualemergency.

CommunicationwithParents/Guardiansregarding“ACTUALLOCKDOWN”Intheeventofanactuallockdownsituation,amemberoftheSchool’sadministrativestaffwill notify the parents/guardians of the lockdown: by phone or email of the lockdownsituation,assoonasitispossible.Pleasenotethatinanactuallockdownevent,itmaynotbepossible toacton thispolicy.Once lockdown isover, theadministrationwillalert theparents/guardians,assoonaspossible,orwithinareasonabletimeframe.Parentsshouldnot attempt to come to schoolwhile school is in lockdownmode until the “All Clear” iscommunicatedbyphone,emailand/ortext.

FieldTripsToinsurethesafetyofourstudentsonSchoolfieldtrips,thefollowingprocedureswillbefollowed:

▪ SeatBelts–Allstudentsmustbewearingaseatbeltatalltimes.Ifthereisanairbagonthepassengerside,onlystudents12yearsofageandoldermaysit inthefrontseat.

▪ CarSeats–AllstudentsmustbeinacarseataccordingtoNClawiftheyareundertheageof8yearsofageorweighlessthan80pounds.

▪ Chaperonesareoftenrequiredtohelpussuperviseourstudents.▪ If you are a chaperone,we are counting on you to remainwith our students and

fulfillyoursupervisoryroles.▪ Allstudentswillbeassignedtoaspecificchaperonepriortoleavingcampusandthe

chaperonewillberesponsibleforthatstudentuntiltheyreturntocampus.▪ Thereisadistinctionbetweenthosedriverssimplyneededfortransportation,and

thoseadultsaskedtodriveandchaperoneduringthefieldtrip.▪ Teachers will advise parents in advance as to their specific duties and

responsibilities.▪ For the safety of our students, we insist that the same children return to school

propertyunlessotherwisearranged.Smoke-FreeCampusOpendoor School is a smoke-free campus. Our Tobacco-Free Campus Policy wasimplemented to reduce health risks among students, faculty, staff and visitors to thecampus. Through this policy, the campus restricts the use, sale and advertising of alltobaccoproductsincludingcigarettes,chewingtobaccoandelectroniccigarettes.

ATTENDANCE

Academic,social,andspiritualgrowthopportunitiesare fosteredeveryday inourschoolenvironment.Whilea teachercansendhomemissedworkwhenastudent isabsent, theoverallclassroomexperiencecannotbereplicated.

AbsencesAstudent isconsideredpresentwhenheorshehasbeenatschool forat leastthree(3)hoursof theschoolday(11:15amonaregularschoolday). Absences inexcessoftwenty(20)daysmayresultintheretentionofyourchild.Parentsarerequiredtosendanotethefirstdaythechildreturnstoschoolafteranabsence.

ExcusedAbsencesAbsencesduetoillness,doctorappointments,andadeathofanimmediatefamilymemberareconsideredexcused.Studentswillbegiventhree(3)daystocoordinatewithteachertoreceiveanymissedworkandreturnittoschoolcompleted.Worknotreturnedwithintheallottedtimewilldirectlyaffectthestudent’sgrade.

ExcusedPre-PlannedAbsencesOpendoorSchoolhighlyencouragesparentstoplanvacationsbasedontheschoolcalendar.Werecognizethattheremaybetimeswherethisisnotpossible.Intheeventofaplannedextendedabsence,suchasatriporvacation,pleasenotifyyourchild’steacherinadvance.Anyworkgivenbytheteachermustbesubmitteduponthestudent’sreturntoschool.

TardiesStudentsareexpectedtobepunctual.Theschooldaybeginsat8:00AM.After8:00AM,achildistardyandmustbeescortedandsignedinbyaguardianinthemainoffice.Three(3)unexcusedtardiesareequivalenttooneabsence.

EarlyDismissalStudentsareexpectedtobeintheirclassfortheentireday.Studentsleavingpriortotheendoftheschooldaymustbecheckedoutinthemainoffice.Three(3)unexcusedearlydismissalsareequivalent tooneabsence. If a student is leaving school earlywithanadult other than the parent, advanced written notice is required. Please note that it iscommonpracticetorequest identification if theofficestafforteacherdoesnotrecognizetheadult.Anyadultsnotontheauthorizedpickuplistorinawrittennotefromaparentwillnotbeallowedtotakeyourchildoffofourcampus.

STUDENTGUIDELINES

StudentConductAttendingOpendoorSchoolisaprivilege,notaright.Ourstudentsareexpectedtobehaveinwaysthatarerespectful,honoring,andexemplarytoGodandthosearoundthem.Thisincludesbutisnotlimitedtofaculty,pastors,parents,peersandthoseinthecommunity.

DressCodePolicyOpendoorSchoolmaintainsanatmospheresupportiveofthelearningprocessandbelievesclothing should not be disruptive or distracting to the teaching/learning process. Theteacher or school administration will determine if student attire is inappropriate or inviolation of our dress policy. Students at Opendoor School have the following clothingoptionsfortheschoolyear:

Studentsmaywearanycolorcollaredpolo-styleorbutton-downshirts.Logosanddesigns(stripes,etc.)arepermitted.Noscreenprintsofanykindallowed.StudentsmaywearanyOpendoort-shirts,longsleevedshirts,andsweatshirtsthatcanbepurchasedmultipletimesduringtheyear.TheyareNOTpermittedtoweart-shirtswithdesigns/picturesonthemoveracollaredpoloshirt.Girls may wear collared polo dresses and jumpers with collared polo shirts. Alldressesmusthavesleevesandasewn-incollar.Alljumpersmustbewornwithanapproved collared top. Dresses and jumpersmay be any color or pattern. Girlsshould wear biker shorts under skirts or dresses. No screen prints of any kindallowedondressesorjumpers.Girlsmaywearleggingsbutonlywithadresslengthtop.Allsleevelessshirtsmusthavestrapsmeasuringatleast2fingerwidths.Students may wear any style pant, including jeans, that they choose other thanathletic shorts or athletic pants (including yoga/spandex). Pants should not havetearsandholes.Shortsandskirtsmustbeofappropriatelength.TennisshoesmustbewornonPEdays.

StudentsmaybeaskedtopurchasespecificpiecesofclothingforMusicConcerts,whichareheldinthefallandspringofeachyear.Afterthefirsttwo(2)weeksofschoolwewillcontactyoufirstthinginthemorningifyourchildisoutofdresscode.Wewillrequireyoutoimmediatelybringachangeofclothingtoschoolforyourchild.Youmaynotwaituntilmiddaytoaddressthedresscodeviolation.Weappreciateyourcooperationwithadherencetothedresscode.

PictureDayOpendoorSchoolhastwoPictureDayseachschoolyear.Parentswillbenotifiedweeksinadvance toprepare. Studentsmustbedressedappropriately (uniformorbetter)butdonothavetobe inDressCodethatDay. Thesedaysareknownas“NoUniformToday”orN.U.T.AllproceedstopicturessoldgotowardtheOpendoorBuildingFund.StudentDisciplineIfatanytimeamemberofOpendoorSchool’sFacultymustdisciplineachild, it isalwaysdoneinloveandanefforttosethealthyboundariesandsetthemupforsuccess.Teachershavetheirownclassroomdisciplineandpolicies;however,allclassroomsuseacolor-codedsystemtonotifyyouofyourchild’sdailybehavior.Theyhavestandardsthataretoberespectedandupheldintheclassroomtohelpnurtureandencouragelearningforallstudents.Teachersmayalsogiveappropriatedisciplinaryactiontothestudentsuchassilentlunch,sentences,walkingatrecess,orstayingafterschool.If a student consistentlymakesMinor Infractions the teachermaymake official parentcontact through phone call or conference. These forms of communication will bedocumented.Afterthethirdtimecontactismade,thestudentwillbesenttotheofficeforanofficialvisit.Theofficewillpromptlycontacttheparents/guardiansofthestudent.Thefather will be contacted first and then the mother. If the parent(s)/guardian(s) of thestudentareseparated,onlytheparent/guardianwithcustodywillbecontacted(however,without court documents on file, information cannot be withheld from eitherparent/guardian).In the event the Principal is not available to handle student discipline, the Director ofOpendoorEducationwillstandintheirplace.MinorOffensesincludebutarenotlimitedto:

If thePrincipal sees fit, the studentmaybeBounced (In- School Suspension) for aperiodoftime. InKindergarten,theBouncetimewill lasthalfofadayforthefirstoffense.Grades1-5willbeBouncedfor1dayforthefirstoffense.Ifthebehaviorisrepeated,thestudentmaybeBouncedforuptotwodays.Ifthebehaviorstilldoesnotcease,thestudentmaybesuspendedforuptothreedaysforaMinorOffense.ThefollowingareconsideredMajorOffensesandwillnotbetolerated.ThePrincipalwillusetheirdiscretiontodeterminepunishment,includingBounce,SuspensionorExpulsion:

SuspensionandExpulsionThe Opendoor Education Director alongwith the Principal holds the right to suspend astudent at any time for anyMajor Offenses. They also reserve the right to suspend astudent forrepeated,exhaustedminoroffenses if theabovedisciplinaryactionshavenotbeensuccessful.Repeatedsuspensionsmayleadtoexpulsion.Studentswhoareexpelledmaybeadmittedbackthefollowingyear,butarenotguaranteed.

PARENTGUIDELINES

Parent–TeacherCommunicationsAll communication with teachers should be conducted, when possible, through emailmessages between home and class. Any messages for students or any other immediatecommunicationsregardingcarpoolorspecial instructionsforstudentsshouldbehandledby phonewith the School Office (252-321-1163) and/or the teacher’s preferred form ofcommunication.

ParentParticipationandBehaviorOpendoor School relies onparent involvement. While it is not required,wedo ask thatparents takeanactiverole inschool lifeandparticipate to thegreatestof theirability infundraisers, classparties, field tripsetc. Allparent’svolunteeringonbehalfofOpendoorSchoolareambassadorsofourschoolandarethereforeaskedtorepresentourschoolinaprofessional,encouraging,joyfulandChrist-likemanner.We understand that at times there can be differences of opinionwhen it comes to yourchildren. Wedohoweverexpectforbothfacultyandparentstostriveforunity. Parentsare asked to talk to teachers directly (not to other parents)when issues arise. Parentsshouldtalktoandaboutfacultyinanon-aggressive,politeandrespectfulmanner.Ourgoalistobuildeachotherup,notteardown.

CustodyDisputesWeunderstandthatfamilysituationshappen,butwerespectfullyrequestthatourstaffnotbesummonedforcustodyhearingsoranyotherfamilycourtmatter.Ifitisessentialthatastaff member be summoned, contact should only be made through Opendoor SchoolAdministrator.A$500.00perdayfeewillbeinvoicedforcourtappearances,depositions,orotherneedsthatremovethemfromtheirclassroomresponsibilities.

ELECTRONICDEVICEPOLICY

Duringschoolhours,studentswillbeprohibitedfromusinganydevicetosurftheInternet,watch movies, listen to music or play electronic games, without the teacher’s specificpermission.Anyviolationofthispolicymayresult inthelossofuseofthemobiledevice.The first violation will result in confiscation of the device and parents will be asked toretrieve the confiscated device personally from the school office. A second offense mayresultinthelossofprivilegeofbringingthedevicetoschoolforathirty(30)dayperiod.AthirdoffensewillbedeemedaMajorConductOffense.

InternetandtheuseofOpendoorSchoolDevices

EducationalPurpose1. TheTechnologyDepartmenthasbeenestablishedforalimitededucationalpurpose.

Theterm"educationalpurpose"includesclassroomactivities,careerdevelopment,andlimitedhigh-qualitypersonalresearch.

2. No student should access public networking sites or programs when usingOpendoorSchool computers.This includes (but isnot limited to) suchservicesasFacebook,Twitter,Instagram,oranyothersocialmedia.

UnacceptableUses1. PersonalSafety

a. Youwillnotpostpersonal contact informationaboutyourselforotherpeople.Personal contact information includes your address, telephone, email address,socialsecuritynumbers,birthdates,etc.

b. You will not agree to meet with someone you have met online without yourparents'approval.Yourparentshouldaccompanyyoutothismeeting.

c. Youwillpromptlydisclose toyour teacheroradministrationanymessageyoureceivethatisinappropriateormakesyoufeeluncomfortable.

2. IllegalActivitiesa. YouwillnotattempttogainunauthorizedaccesstotheTechnologyDepartment

or to any other computer system through the Technology Department or gobeyond your authorized access. This includes attempting to log in throughanotherperson'saccountoraccessinganotherperson's files.Theseactionsareillegal,evenifonlyforthepurposesof"browsing."

b. You will not make deliberate attempts to disrupt the computer system ordestroy data by spreading computer viruses or by any other means. Theseactionsareillegal.

c. Youwillnotuse theTechnologyDepartment toengage inanyother illegalact,suchasarrangingforadrugsaleorthepurchaseofalcohol,engagingincriminalgangactivity,threateningthesafetyofperson,etc.

3. SystemSecuritya. Youareresponsible foryour individualaccountandshouldtakeallreasonable

precautions to prevent others from being able to use your account. Under noconditionsshouldyouprovideyourpasswordtoanotherperson.

b. Youwill immediatelynotify a teacher or the systemadministrator if youhaveidentifiedapossiblesecurityproblem.

c. You will avoid the inadvertent spread of computer viruses by following thestandardvirusprotectionproceduresifyoudownloadsoftware.

4. InappropriateLanguagea. Restrictions against inappropriate language apply to public messages, private

messages,andmaterialpostedonwebpages.b. Youwillnotuseobscene,profane,lewd,vulgar,rude,inflammatory,threatening,

ordisrespectfullanguage.c. Youwillnotpostinformationthatcouldcausedamageoradangerofdisruption.d. Youwillnotengageinpersonalattacks, includingprejudicialordiscriminatory

attacks.e. You will not harass another person. Harassment is persistently acting in a

mannerthatdistressesorannoysanotherperson.Ifyouaretoldbyapersontostopsendinghim/hermessages,youmuststop.

f. Youwillnotknowinglyorrecklesslypostfalseordefamatoryinformationaboutapersonororganization.

5. RespectforPrivacya. Youwillnotrepostamessagethatwassenttoyouprivatelywithoutpermission

ofthepersonwhosentyouthemessage.b. Youwillnotpostprivateinformationaboutanotherperson.

6. RespectingResourceLimitsa. Youwillusethesystemonly foreducationalandcareerdevelopmentactivities

andlimited,high-quality,personalresearch.b. Youwillnotdownloadlargefilesunlessabsolutelynecessary.Ifnecessary,you

willdownloadthefileatatimewhenthesystemisnotbeingheavilyusedandimmediately remove the file from the system computer to your personalcomputer.

c. Youwillnotpostchainlettersorengagein"spamming."Spammingissendinganannoyingorunnecessarymessagetoalargenumberofpeople.

7. PlagiarismandCopyrightInfringementa. YouwillnotplagiarizeworksthatyoufindontheInternet.Plagiarismistaking

the ideasorwritingsofothersandpresenting themas if theywereyours.Formore information about our school’s policy on plagiarism, please see ourbrochure“Plagiarism”availablefromtheschooloffice.

b. Youwill respect therightsofcopyrightowners.Copyright infringementoccurswhenyouinappropriatelyreproduceaworkthatisprotectedbyacopyright.Ifaworkcontainslanguagethatspecifiesappropriateuseofthatwork,youshould

followtheexpressedrequirements.Ifyouareunsurewhetherornotyoucanuseawork,youshouldrequestpermissionfromthecopyrightowner.Copyrightlawcanbeveryconfusing.Ifyouhavequestions,askateacher.

8. InappropriateAccesstoMateriala. YouwillnotusetheTechnologyDepartmenttoaccessmaterialthatisprofaneor

obscene (pornography), that advocates illegal or dangerous acts, or thatadvocates violence or discrimination towards other people (hate literature). Aspecial exception may be made if the purpose of your access is to conductresearchandbothyourteacherandparenthaveapproved.

b. Ifyoumistakenlyaccessinappropriateinformation,youshouldimmediatelytellyour teacheroranadult supervisingyou.Thiswillprotectyouagainstaclaimthatyouhaveintentionallyviolatedthispolicy.
