YOUR OPEN DAY GUIDEDerby Campus – Saturday 17 October, 10am-3pm

Welcome to the University of Derby, No. 1 for graduate employment in the East Midlands*. My name is Daisy Giuliano and I am the President of the Students’ Union here.

I’m 23 years old, and having just completed my history degree, it’s now my job to run the Students’ Union, which is a pretty big task but also the best job ever. I’ve lived in Derby all of my life and I am a very proud graduate of this

University - it gave me everything I could have wanted from a university, and more. There is a real sense of community, compassion and ambition here and it’s such a good environment to be in to try new things, meet new people and make memories – as well as leave with a top class qualification and tons of ambition to go on and achieve your dreams.

Make the most of today, speak to as many students as you can

and get a feel for what it is like here. Ask all the questions you have and soak up what’s going on around you. I hope I will see you again here as a student of my University and I wish you the best of luck until that point.

Daisy Giuliano President of University of Derby Students’ Union

YOUR OPEN DAY GUIDE

Mark Farthing BA (Hons) Creative Writing

“My experiences and achievements at the University of Derby helped me secure my current role –

Member Services & Commercial Executive at the League Managers Association (LMA), one of football’s elite associations. I came to university as a shy person who was able to thrive through sport and then graduate as a young leader.”

Natalie Harrison Bsc (Hons) Forensic Science

“I chose Derby as the crime scene house provided a ‘real life’ aspect to studying crime scene investigations. Within a week of finishing my last exam I received an invitation for an interview

for a Toxicology Analyst position at Orchid Cellmark. The job was offered to me the same day which was great. I had the best three years at Derby and I have made some lifelong friends.”

Mihai GhinescuBusiness Management and Law

“Since graduating I moved back to Romania and I am now working as a Project Coordinator for Nestlé Ice Cream Romania. I chose Derby as it was one of the few universities in the

UK to offer the Joint Honours Business Management and Law course. It is the perfect place to start as an International student in the UK, offering you the chance of high quality education and good preparation for the next level of post graduate studies.”

Jade WalshBA (Hons) Illustration

“Since completing my BA (Hons) Illustration, I’ve developed and designed a range of greetings cards for Paper Rose, a greetings card publisher. Derby was the obvious choice university

for me because as soon as I met the Illustration lecturer at the Open Day she sold it to me! I was also very impressed with the facilities and building at Markeaton Street. I can safely say I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now, had it not been for my experience at Derby. Before, I didn’t really have the confidence to think I could actually pursue a creative career, but the fantastic guidance and support from the staff gave me that belief.”

Emma Lawson BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography

“I started work at the Royal Derby Hospital a year ago, as soon as I gained registration after qualifying. I work as a Diagnostic Radiographer in a busy ‘super hospital’

providing essential plain imaging services. The lecturers at Derby were all brilliantly supportive and encouraging. This support was a life saver at times, especially when writing my dissertation and during any difficult times. All of the lecturers have had long and successful careers in Radiography and were passionate about the profession. Studying Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Derby will give you all the skills necessary to become a Radiographer and the friendly and supportive staff will help you every step of the way.”
