Open Call 1 ‘Prototype design
and development’
1. Introduction
CreatiFI Open Call 1 submissions will consist of a mock-up design and a FIWARE
technology-based prototype plan describe how participants will bring the mock-
up to a functioning prototype with a strong business case over the course of 8
months. The submissions (business idea, mock-up designs and prototype plans)
will be evaluated according to their FIWARE adoption and acceleration,
Technological excellence and Business potential. Out of all submissions, 60 will
be selected and awarded EUR 10k (fixed amount) for their designs, and the
eligibility to proceed within the CreatiFI programme to develop their FIWARE
prototype.
2. Target Audience
CreatiFI Open Call 1 aims at promoting FIWARE technologies prototyping design
and development. Software development SMEs, web-entrepreneurs and start-
ups can submit a proposal and request a sub-grant from CreatiFI.
Exclusion criteria:
Participants who submit an identical proposal to more than 3 FIWARE
Accelerators will be immediately excluded for CreatiFI Open Call.
3. Basic Conditions: FIWARE Catalogue
An essential prerequisite for asking for a sub-grant is the usage of FIWARE
range of technologies identified in the FIWARE catalogue. The FIWARE catalogue
outlines key features of Future Internet technologies and provides access to

documentation, downloads, information on terms and conditions of the usage of
these technologies.
In order to be eligible, all prototypes need to have a FIWARE technological basis,
prototypes need to use FIWARE enablers.
Central in the FIWARE accelerator projects is the adoption and use of FIWARE
technologies in the proposals, designs, and prototypes elaborated by the
candidates. As such, the use of FIWARE technology components will carefully be
assessed in the evaluation process of Open Call 1, and is a top-level evaluation
criterion.
4. Selection of the Proposals
4.1. Eligibility criteria
CreatiFI has devised a two-stage, consecutive and complementary process in
each hub. CreatiFI open calls allow early-stage developers and more experience
teams to enter, the CreatiFI program at different stages, according to their
needs and abilities. Open call 1 will focus on prototype design and development,
it will open 1st Oct. and close 30st Nov. In order to be eligible, participants have
to comply with the following eligibility criteria.
• Register to CreatiFI portal and select a CreatiFI hub that will monitor the
Open Call process.
• Be individuals, web-entrepreneurs, SMEs based in the EU or associated
countries.
• Have a VAT number or be able to provide one in the event Applicant’s
proposal is accepted1.
1 In the event the Applicant has been accepted, in order to be able to receive funds, he/she will have to create a legal entity that complies with all national legislation.

• Declare that the same proposal has been submitted to maximum 3
FIWARE accelerators
• Prototype plan submitted is based on the technologies available in the
FIWARE catalogue
• Be directly responsible for the preparation, management and execution of
the CreatiFI program.
• Proposals need to be submitted before 30th November 2014.
4.2. Selection criteria
All proposals submitted in CreatiFI Open Call 1 on ‘Prototype Design and
Development’ will be evaluated under a doubled-blinded cross-regional review
system. The evaluation will be based on the following criteria.

The top 30 ranked proposals will be invited to pitch their Prototype Plans in their
respective hub on the 16th-17th December 2014.
4.3. Selection procedure
All CreatiFI proposals will be linked to a local hub, either in the Benelux,
Scandinavia, Italy or Spain. All submissions will be evaluated by independent
expert evaluators, the review will be made remotely in a double-blind cross-
regional system. One local evaluator and one non-local evaluator will score and
rank each proposal based on the above criteria.
Top 30 ranked submissions, in each CreatiFI Hub, will be invited to pitch their
proposal to a panel of experts. All CreatiFI hubs pitch events will take place on
the 16th-17th December 2014.

At the end of this final stage, 15 FIWARE prototype plans will be selected in each
CreatiFI Hub.
5. Other activities
Each CreatiFI hub will engage in a series of activities.
Matchmaking between tech-savvy and creative people and/or
organizations in a trusted open innovation setting to ensure the teaming up of
Creative Industries and the ICT sector.
Technology & Innovation Support towards FIWARE technologies by leading
technology centers that are currently already deeply involved.
Business Model Clinics for every participant in in Open Call 1, given by
partners with proven track record in Business Model Innovation at the local level,
as well as partners from the supporting actions of Phase 3.
Living Lab tests that enable SMEs and web entrepreneurs to explore markets
and find users across borders for all participants in Open Call 2, by the 4 leading
Living Labs in Europe and even by other members of the European Network of
Living Labs.
Gateways to further funding via already activated incubation programs (VC,
crowd-funding,..), the Creative Ring network, and client-involved Living Lab
business brokering.
Dissemination and networking activities through CreatiFI 4 hubs’ regional
innovation ecosystems, the Creative Ring and DigiBIC communities, the leading
European networks EBN and ENoLL.
