    A 1.5m six-storeyresidential and commercialbuilding on the banks of the RiverUsk, in Newport, being built bySouth Wales construction firmopco, will take shape over thecoming months.

    The City Vizion scheme is thethird in a series of apartmentsand commercial blocks beingbuilt for Taylor Wimpey UK closeto Rodney Parade, the dual coderugby and football groundoverlooking the revitalised city

    centre.The 14-apartment block, with

    commercial open plan space atground level, which is due forcompletion by the end of theyear, is regarded as a key part ofthe regeneration of the formerdocks area of the city.

    Opco regional managingdirector Nigel Coulter said: As aconstruction business with itsroots in Wales opco wasextremely proud to win thiscontract for what is one ofNewports most important,recognisable and high profiledevelopment sites.

    The city of Newport isundergoing an extensiveprogramme of renovation andrefurbishment and new building

    and were confident that thecompletion of the City Vizionproject for Taylor Wimpey willadd further to appeal andattraction of the city as place toboth live and work.

    The 46-week scheme is due

    for completion by the autumn of

    this year.Opco employs 70 staff and

    operates in South Wales, thesouth west and south east ofEngland.

    It has continued to

    demonstrate its versatility in the

    construction industry with recent

    work among which include thecompletion of the 330,000

    McDonalds Restaurant in

    Newbridge, Gwent; a 2.5mmedical centre in Milford Havenand the start on the 6m schemeat the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery,Swansea on behalf of SwanseaCity Council.

    Leading office design and furniturespecialist Paramount Office Interiors, hasopened an innovative ShowOffice its newbase at the Paramount Business Park in StMellons, near Newport.

    The ShowOffice has been designed tobe a functional working office forParamounts employees, while also actingas a showroom facility, where the mostmodern practices and products in theoffice design and furniture sector can bedemonstrated to customers.

    Completed in December 2012, thetwo-storey building, named SummersHouse, took 11 months to build at a totalcost of 2.65m. The company shares thebuilding with Quantum Advisory, anindependent actuarial and employeebenefits specialist, which occupies theground floor with the ShowOffice locatedon the upper floor.

    The overall structural concept forSummers House was designed by PaulSummers, of architects Stride TreglowanDavies, who sadly passed away during theearly stages of the project. It wassubsequently named in his honour.

    The interior was designed byParamounts in-house design andarchitectural teams and was based on agallery theme where the furniture, fixturesand finishes are set against a minimalwhite backdrop and displayed as pieces ofartwork.

    Since being set up in 1989 bymanaging director Nigel Roberts,Paramount become one of Wales leadingoffice design and furniture specialists. In2011 it won a gold award at theAssociation of Interior Specialists Awards.
