WELCOMEDear Friends,
When planning our 2020 Summer Festival last year, we never expected the need to adjust to a virtual platform. We wanted to find a way to remain true to our mission and maintain our commitment to presenting great chamber music concerts. With thoughtful organization, strong board leadership, and some sleepless nights along the way, we’re extremely proud to present this Virtual Summer Festival. Thank you for joining us for these 12 concerts with exclusive performances brought to you from Seattle and around the world.
We wouldn’t have been able to make the Festival happen without the generous support of our donors, allowing us to build the new Center for Chamber Music. While we weren’t able to open the doors for you this spring as we intended, we are very excited to share our intimate concert space – the “Living Room” – as the hub for concerts this summer. In a time of uncertainty, the Center gives us an opportunity to share our performances with our loyal Seattle audience and new fans around the world.
The programs have changed from our original announcement back in February, but we are so pleased to offer part 2 of our complete survey of Beethoven String Quartets (Concerts 1, 2, and 3), three world premieres by this year’s Commissioning Club composer, Aaron Jay Kernis (Concert 8), along with music by Mozart, Schubert, Dvorák, and Shostakovich.
Thank you for coming on this journey with us. What we’re accomplishing together this summer gives us such hope, and we hope you find moments of peace, rest, and inspiration in what you experience with us this July.
JAMES EHNES, Gilbert Omenn and Martha Darling Artistic DirectorCONNIE COOPER, Executive Director

OUR NEW HOMEThe Center for Chamber Music
Our 2020 Virtual Summer Festival comes to you from our new home in the heart of downtown Seattle. The Center for Chamber Music is the culmination of James Ehnes’ vision and the generosity of over 150 donors whose commitment to the capital campaign and to our endowment will secure our future.
The centerpiece of the Center is the Dr. Kennan Hollingsworth Living Room, a convivial space designed specifically for intimate performances and events to give audiences more opportunities to engage with chamber music. The Living Room is outfitted with technology to livestream programs and master classes, and a projector and screen to watch films and live-streamed concerts. The Center also houses our administrative offices, an on-site box office, two rehearsal rooms, and the Toby Saks Sheet Music Library, a useful resource of hundreds of pieces of music.
Although we couldn’t welcome you into our Center for Chamber Music earlier this spring as we had planned, we are so pleased to share it with you virtually. Our new home brings people together to share musical experiences, to be inspired and transformed.
To learn more or to join our campaign, contact Kimberly Fulghum at (206) 283-8710, email her at [email protected], or visit our website seattlechambermusic.org.
