“WHAT IF I CAN’T QUITE COVER THE COSTS? ”

There are some circumstances where you may be entitled to enrol on one of our courses at a significantly reduced rate, or even for free, and so it pays to do your research and give us a call! Such circumstances can include…

• If you have previously served within the British Armed Forces

• If you are aged between 19 – 24 and are unemployed (and claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance)

• If you are completing your first set of qualifications since attending high school

For learners aged 25 and above, you may be able to obtain student finance to pay for your qualification. This is a low interest rate loan which you don’t have to start repaying until you earn a certain salary per year.

Often, an employer may agree to fund your qualification if it is relevant to your development within your job role. We would be happy to speak to your employer about this should it be an option for you to take!

Still unsure? Give us a call, and let us help you!

FITNESS (GYM)INSTRUCTOR...

Most gyms, health clubs and leisure centres hire Gym Instructors to write general programmes for their visiting clientele. Gym Instructors carry out general supervision of clients exercising on gym equipment and using the facilities. They provide demonstrations, advice on exercise and tips on best use of equipment to ensure the progress of clients. However, Gym Instructors are not trained to work with specific populations or clients with medical issues, as this requires the input of a specialist. Whilst employed at a gym, health club or leisure centre, Gym Instructors are also expected to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of equipment and carry out administrative duties within the facility. Gym Instructors can expect to earn an average of £12-14K per year.

FITNESS (GYM)INSTRUCTOR...

Personal Trainers initially all train as Gym Instructors, but following more intensive and specialist training, are able to offer skills in advanced exercise programming, conduct fitness tests and advise on nutrition, weight management, injury prevention and rehabilitation. Personal Trainers usually work freelance in gyms, health clubs and leisure centres, but most commonly, work on a self-employed basis in their own time, utilizing their own choice of environment. Personal Trainers can charge upwards of £15 p/hour for their services, although many charge considerably more depending on their client-base.

To become a PE and Sports teacher has been a quest of mine since I undertook a school placement during my time at university. Getting an interview for a PGCE can be difficult, especially for a professional athlete, as I travel a lot, so it can sometimes disrupt my schedule. Onside’s Dip Ed is an alternative to the PGCE. It’s cheaper, more interactive, aimed specifically at PE and Sports teachers and provides me and my placement with additional opportunities, such as fitness qualifications and coaching badges. I would recommended Onside to my teammates, relatives and any prospective further education teachers.

Onside Sports Education is a Registered Training Provider of high quality sports, health and fitness apprenticeships designed to suit the needs of employers and employees in the UK’s fastest growing sector.

With the success of the 2012 Olympics in London, the sport and fitness industry is one of the most popular and wide reaching sectors in the UK. It covers all aspects of sport and recreation from exercise instruction to professional sports development. The sector covers opportunities that can lead to employment in gyms, leisure centres, recreation parks, stadiums, sports clubs and a wide range of indoor and outdoor activity centres.

Roughly 620,000 people work in this industry in the UK, in about 230,000 businesses and organisations throughout the country.

‘Sport’ is about more than just teams and competition; it embraces all forms of physical activity that aim to improve physical fitness and mental well-being. Sport can even help people form social relationships. Millions of people enjoy sports at leisure centres, private health clubs, recreation events and outward bound centres to name a handful of venues, and all of these need motivated, qualified, professional staff to make sure things run smoothly and safely, as well as to instruct, inspire and share in the development of their clients.

Increasingly, the government is relying on the health and fitness industry to help fight illness and obesity. There’s a growing number of fitness club and leisure centre users, which means a growing number of employment vacancies.

In short, apprenticeships are a great way to learn, earn and ensure a future in this hugely important industry.

FUNDING PARTNERS

European Social Fund

ESF is Europe’s main instrument for supporting jobs, helping people get better jobs and ensuring fairer job opportunities for all EU citizens. It works by investing in Europe’s human capital – its workers, its young people and all those seeking a job. ESF financing of EUR 10 billion a year is improving job prospects for millions of Europeans, in particular those who find it difficult to get work.

The European Union is committed to creating more and better jobs and a socially inclusive society. These goals are at the core of the Europe 2020 strategy for generating smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the EU. The current economic crisis is making this an even more demanding challenge. The ESF is playing an important role in meeting Europe’s goals, and in mitigating the consequences of the economic crisis - especially the rise in unemployment and poverty levels.

Skills Funding Agency

The Skills Funding Agency is a partner organisation of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). Their job is to fund and promote adult further education (FE) and skills training in England, including Traineeships and Apprenticeships, in a way that supports economic growth.

They deliver £4.1 billion of skills training through contracts with over 1,000 colleges, private training organisations and employers. They have a highly effective supply chain that means FE meets local need in the most cost-effective way, reaching into every sector of the economy.

The Skills Funding Agency also hosts the Information Authority, an independent body that acts on behalf of organisations involved in further education and training in England, setting data standards and governing data collection.
