IDP-NAHEP, SKUAST-K is committed to multifaceted programming in student entrepreneurship to transform their ideas & creativity into concrete technology development, business creation and product commercialization. To promote access to university innovation through licensing of its products & trademark.

In this venture a Seven days Online Workshop on “Innovative Technologies in Agriculture: Paving Way to Modern Farming” from 18- 24 April, 2020 was organized under the ambit of Innovation & Entrepreneurship cell, National Agricultural Higher Education Project, SKUAST-Kashmir.

The workshop provided an opportunity to the students to discuss and interact on various Innovative Technologies in Agriculture and entrepreneurship opportunities available in the field.

Workshop Participants

Around 93 participants including students from various faculties of SKUAST-K, researchers, policy makers, bank executives (NABARD), JKEDI Executives, Agripreneurs and consultants in the field of Agripreneurship were a part of the workshop.

Objectives of the workshop Programme

9 To build early career researchers’ capacity to engage in inters disciplinary research through innovative agricultural technologies.

9 Embracing digital innovation in the agricultural sector to implement agri-tech solutions to increase efficiency and productivity.

9 To understand the future technologies to transform the supply chain for stemming the e-business revolution.

9 Studying the scenario of climate change with the perspective of fighting food shortages .

9 To understand the perspectives of block chain technology for future agriculture.

9 Identification of specialized types of “impact-driven” enterprises.

The workshop comprised of Fourteen (14) technical sessions on the following themes.

9 Detecting disease and Pest through Software

9 Use of Simulation models to increase Production of crops and reduce the impact of climate change

9 Role of Agriculture in making India a 5 trillion $ economy

9 Agricultural Economics, Entrepreneurship development & Innovations

9 Role of ICT in Agricultural innovation.

9 Steps towards becoming a Successful Agripreneur in J&K

9 New Approaches in Agriculture Innovations

9 Agri-Innovation: A step towards Agriprenuership

9 Innovative Farming System as a model of Agriprenuership.

9 Employing Robotic in Precision Weed management for sustainable Agriculture

9 Conservation Agriculture in India: Myths, realities and way forward

9 Urban Agriculture & its importance in future Agriculture

9 Weed infestation Scenario in Horticulture Crops and Possible management strategies farming.

Various eminent Directors, Chief/Principal Scientists and policy makers in field of Agronomy, Artificial intelligence, Agribusiness, Soil science and Agricultural Economics briefed the students on the various vistas of agriculture and opportunities of agripreneurship & innovation available. More importantly the session commenced with a note on New Innovational vistas in Agriculture briefed by Dr. K. Ramesh, AI & IOT in Agriculture followed by application of various software’s for detecting diseases in plants and a way towards using these software applications in agriprenuerial mode by Dr Huma Naz, Pathologist by profession.

Dr Muheet Ahmed Butt, a renowned personality of J&K in field of computers sciences & Artificial Intelligence up hauled the session by providing a thorough know how on artificial intelligences and use of robotics in the field of agriculture. Dr. K.N Singh, a Stalwart in field of Agronomy deliberated on the use of Simulation models to increase Production of crops and reduce the impact of climate change, followed by Dr. A. K Singh, evoked a thought provoking session through his lecture on role of Agriculture in making India a 5 trillion $ economy.

Other speakers in the technical sessions viz., Dr. Y S Negi , a renowned Economist, Dr. Nidhi Verma , Principal Scientist, ICAR, Dr. Murugesan Former Director, Agri Business TNAU, Coimbatore, Dr. Daleep Kachroo Chief Scientist, IFS SKUAST Jammu, Prof. N. T Yaduraju Former Director ICAR- DWSR, Prof. A. R Sharma, Director Research Central Agricultural University Jhansi Former Director ICAR DWSR, Dr. Rakesh Singh, Professor & Head, Agril Economics, Banaras Hindu University and Prof. M. S Bhular, PAU Ludhiana briefed the participants by their skilful expertise of teaching and motivation on aspects of use of robotics in weed management; agripreneurial oppurtunities in agriculture and Integrated farming system as a mode of Agri preneurship.The lectures humbled the participants by their insightful contributions to these lectures which reflected their calibre as proving their mattlle as stalwart subject specialists.

Mr Qamar Javaid DGM NABARD briefed on various agri preneurship Schemes/ policies available to students through NABARD; key elements in drafting a detailed Project Report (DPR) ; benefits provided by various agribusiness schemes like ACABC centers and provided satisfying response to all queries raised by aspiring students.

The technical sessions were preluded by a pre evaluation assessment test of the participants which showed 90% inclination of the participants towards entrepreneurship and innovations.

The workshop concluded with a plenary session chaired by Prof. Nazir Ahmed Ganai, PI-NAHEP SKUAST K co-chaired by Dr. Farahanaz Rasool, Dy Director, Trainings , Prof. Farooq Ahmed Zaki HRM consultant and Dr Naveed Hamid BDA, IDP-SKUAST K NAHEP. The PI thanked the organizers and participants for the smooth conduct of the workshop. The programme concluded feedback/ post program evaluation from the participants.

Recommendations

9 Participants acquaint sufficient information on the productivity of agricultural systems now and under different climate impact scenarios.

9 It prepared participants to provide innovative and sustainable agricultural monitoring systems, methods and tools integrating geospatial.

9 It made participants able to work for nutrition-sensitive and sustainable agriculture

9 It helps in changing the mindset of participants to work for better livelihood, productivity and more diversified income portfolios during the implementation of innovative research intervention.

9 Participants would now be able to develop and cultivate greater linkages to markets and capacity building opportunities

9 Participants would be able to develop a business model and competitive strategy in the field of agri- innovation.
