Sales Management CommentsThe name “Simmsational” is as synonymous with quality Simmental sales as any in the nation! Not to mention the fact that it’s also the longest running Simmental female sale in Canada! Passing the test of time and commitment from the best breeders in Saskatchewan is the recipe for it’s success and the continued respect for it’s guaranteed quality.

Simmsational is the “meeting grounds” of more Simmental breeders on a national level annually than any other sale. This event not only offers the opportunity to acquire top stock but a networking dream to boot! The nationally central loca-tion has made this a wonderful opportunity for Simmental breeders from the Atlantic to the Pacific to gather to expand their marketing virtues and enjoy some great fellowship with like-minded people.

As suggested above, we hope to see you in Moose Jaw on December 8. However if you are not able to attend in person but require buying assistance, don’t hesitate to call any of cell phones to utilize our professional absentee buyer services.

See you in Moose Jaw.

Welcome to Simmsational 2016 at Johnstone Auction Mart, Moose Jaw, SK on Thursday, December 8th. It’s getting close to 40 as this is the 39th Annual Simmsational sale. We have consigned to all 39 sales and how the breed has changed since those first sales. Simmental has positioned itself as one of the leading breeds in the cattle industry with its high maternal traits, performance, carcass values, docility and are readily accepted by the commercial and feedlot industry. I think this breed has listened better than any other breed as to what our feeder industry and commercial operations want and expect. We’ve changed our type of cattle dramatically over the years for the better and are reaping the rewards with our strong bull sales, top feeder prices, and the most sought after replacement female market going. You, the breeders, have done a wonderful job over the years of putting the Simmental breed in a very strong position in the livestock industry.

We are consigning eleven bred heifers to the sale this year, headed up by six outstanding red daughters of IPU Red Zone 16A. This phenomenal herdbull has produced outstanding progeny for us and X-T Simmentals. His first sons to sell in our annual bull sale in March averaged just over $19,000. His daughters are the most powerful, deepest bodied, broodiest females I think we’ve ever raised. Five of the six heifers are bred to the $77,000 Sheriff son, IPU Red Deputy 25C. What an exciting mating this will be. Our black section is headed by a super El Tigre daughter that is a full sister to the One In A Million bull. Our El Tigre daughters are making super cows with their fleshing ability, broodiness and good udders. It’s been a while since we have offered a fullblood in our offering, but as we build our numbers back again in fullbloods we are consigning a beautiful, cherry red, goggle eyed Standout daughter that we’re really proud of. These heifers are all A.I. bred and have no exposure.

Come and join us at Johnstone Auction Mart December 8th for the 39th Simmsational sale. There will be some great cattle on offer, good hospitality, food, fun and Christmas spirit. From all of us at LaBatte Simmentals we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Barry

P.S. Grandkids are all doing great as usual. Can’t believe by the time this catalog is out that we will have a grandson that will be a teenager. Where has time gone! Lynlee & Hayley’s boys are all involved in hockey, all three in different age groups, so lots of miles put on their vehicles going to practices and games. Janalee and Tim’s girls are involved in karate and gymnastics. Again lots of up and down the roads, but wonderful to see them healthy and full of energy.

One of the most powerful females we have ever offered for sale. A Red Zone daughter off of Red Es-sence 197X, going back to the great Pocahontas 68M cow. This heifer has been a standout since she was a baby even though she was a twin to another super Red Zone heifer. 197X raised them both, weaning 61C at 745lbs and 60C at 700lbs. I truly believe this is one of the greatest females we’ve ever produced with her broodiness, thickness, depth of rib, structure and is so nicely made through her front end and head. This female has donor cow written all over her, homo polled by parentage and mated to the exciting Sheriff son, IPU Red Deputy 25C. She has the potential to raise breed leading sons and elite daughters and is backed by one of the greatest cow families that has ever walked our pastures, the Pocahontas 68M cow family. Her maternal sister sold in last year’s sale to Quinn Wilson for $25,000.

She is so deep, angular and broody, is setting up a beautiful udder, is very stylish and goes back to another great cow family, the Noremac 16M cow, who was the 2005 Agribition Reserve Grand Champion Female. 66C is very much like her grandmother; powerful! 16M was one of the easiest fleshing females we ever had. She was also the mother of IPU Revolution 172U who had a great show career and did a super job for High Country Simmentals and Beechinor Bros. His females are truly outstanding. This female is, again, one of the top heifers we have ever offered. With her power and pedigree she should become a feature cow in her new owner’s herd. LaBatte Simmentals

This is his first consignment to Simmsational. Wade has been with us for about 15 years now and when he came to work for us he came with some purebred Gelbvieh in which he did quite well. Slowly but surely we got him switched to Simmental and 104C’s mother, Tamale 1U, was his first Simmental purchase. He bought her from Sandra Jeffery as a heifer calf right out of this sale. She’s turned out to be a really nice female with an absolutely perfect udder. Her Red Zone daughter, 104C, is going to be exactly the same type of female; broody and is too setting up a beautiful udder. Bred early to the calving ease specialist, Kuntz Sheriff 8A. Red Zoe’s dam, a super Red Chief daughter, at age 12 still has an absolutely perfect udder and has another heifer in the keeper pen this year. Mated to Red Deputy her calf could be something very special with a resulting pedigree that includes Red Zone, Red Chief, Sheriff, Liner 56U and the Desi cow family. heifer is so easy fleshing, deep and broody. If you go back far enough in her pedigree you will find our old Matron 304Y cow that started our black program off in the right way. Her sire, Black Bolt, is a blaze faced, black, All In son that was a powerhouse at Crossroad’s 2014 bull sale. We, along with WJ Simmentals and Jay Hagar from Alberta, purchased him together. His progeny have power and substance. Bred to Cobra we think this broody, black blaze heifer should have a very interesting calf come this time next year. With her capacity, broodiness, udder and color, 2C should be a great investment and, as an added bonus, she is homo polled.

They had great success showing him and selling his progeny. Our El Tigre daughters are in production now and we couldn’t be more pleased. They are deep, soggy, easy fleshing females with great udders. The service sire of 102C is a black blazed Vision son that you are going to hear a lot more of. He and his mother were, as a pair, Grand Champions at Ag-Ex in Brandon last fall and he was Champion Bull Calf and Reserve Grand Champion Bull. He went on to Agribition and was Reserve Champion Bull calf there. Ourselves and Circle 7 Ranch were able to purchase him out of the stall at Agribition last year from Kolton McIntosh and we couldn’t be more pleased as he has matured into a great herdbull prospect. He is really smooth made, deep bodied, great haired and is mothered by a beautiful uddered Wallbanger daughter going back to a Liner 56U cow. We mated most of our El Tigre daughters to him this spring and are very excited to see his first calf crop.

Clair was heading our black donor program. She was a beautiful made Temptation cow that was long, deep, great uddered and powerful. We believe these El Tigre daughters out of Clair are going to be the same type and kind. Bred early to Priority, this mating should be very exciting. A black blaze face bull or heifer out of 105C could be a very valuable calf. The resulting calf will be polled and black as both Priority and Clair 105C are homo polled and homo black. As you may know the Tylers, Darren and Josh from Red Willow Ranch, purchased our fullblood cows in December of 2012 in its entirety. Well, except for two or three cows - big mistake - of course I kept them, one just was getting older and another had a sore foot. I’ve always liked the fullbloods but we were just getting too many cows around. Well pretty soon I was buying a couple more and now we bred about 30 in total this year. So here we are with an excellent, dark red, goggle eyed, Westgold Standout daughter out of a very good young Wallace female we purchased from the great people

at Virginia Ranch, Harry & Michelle Satchwell. This heifer is moderate framed, big bodied, very deep, has a good udder coming, is stylish and is going to make a great cow. She is bred early to Crossroad Radium whom we had great success with using on heifers for calving ease and very useful progeny, both bull calves and female calves.

If we didn’t have a large group of tremendous bred heifers and the best crop of heifer calves we have ever had, these three individuals would not be for sale. The two Red Zone heifers are a tremendous example of the type of females he has produced for us. He stamps them out very consistently in type and they

all look to be setting down beautiful udders. We are very excited to get the Red Zone females into production. Red Rose herself is so thick made with a big round rib and a lot of natural muscling on a moderate, deep frame. We feel she is the kind to crank out herd bulls consistently. Her dam is a very productive young black cow we purchased from the Maxwells as a calf. The first daughter to sell sired by a bull we purchased out of the highly respected Doll Ranch program in North Dakota. His calves look really good. They are very attractive with lots of body and are all polled. Red Doll’s dam, 131X, is a real powerful, dark red, performance cow. Welcome to Simmsational. As always, it is a pleasure to be a part of this wonderful sale. My sale offering consists of a Stubby daughter and a Stubby granddaughter bred Kuntz Sheriff and a Mader I’m A Gangster daughter and an Erixon Crossfire daughter. Selected for feet, legs, disposition, and easy doing ability, they are some of the best heifers of their respective calf crops. The bred heifers were pictured in late August, so have changed considerably, but due to the weather and mud situation, I was unable to get updated pictures in time for the catalog. If you have any questions about the sale offering, please feel free to call or stop by any time.

Homozygous polled. 4C has that easy doing, big bodied, always stays in good shape look to her. Her dam did an excellent job as a first calf heifer and her 2016 Capone sired heifer is in our replacement pen. We have weaned our first calf crop off of MRL Capone, and they are dark haired, well muscled, good footed cattle. We think the Capone x Casino cross will produce a very marketable calf.

Reggie 86C is a deep bodied, feminine, yet powerful heifer, that is easy fleshing and the spitting image of her dam. Her dam, 2X, has been a no fail cow. Her first daughter, 171Z, is a beautiful Walk The Line cow that as a 2 yr old had the high selling bull calf in the 2015

86C that will be our daughter’s 4H project. 86C’s granddam is none other than Reggie 110R – the foundation of our red program. She is a donor for us and at 11 years old, still has perfect feet and a flawless udder. Reggie 86C is from the very heart of our herd. Her potential is endless.

We are beyond excited to be offering this very unique heifer. You hear time to time people saying one of the most cliché terms in the cattle industry “this one should be staying home.” But we believe in order to further our existence in the industry we need to offer “one that should be staying home”. This girl’s pedigree runs deep in our herd with much of our black herd going back to her great grandam X-T Destiny 73K. Her dam is also proving to be an elite cow in our herd with this being her third straight heifer, and the other two being retained in the herd. This is only the bottom side of her pedigree. When we first saw Olympian on pasture we saw the cow power behind him and knew we could build a herd around him. This heifer is sure to turn heads her whole life, so take advantage of this exceptional opportunity to add this front pasture female to your herd!
