Reflection of the Gospel:

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned

from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit

into the desert for forty days. Following

his baptism, Jesus is led out into the desert.

Though he is without both human compa-

ny and food he is not lacking comfort and

nourishment. Jesus is led by , and filled

with, the Holly Spirit. We, too, are called

into the desert of Lent. For forty days we

embrace fasting, prayer, and almsgiving so

as to empty ourselves in order to be filled

anew with the abundance of God.

Lleno del Espíritu Santo, Jesús regresó del

Jordán y fue llevado por el Espíritu al de-

sierto durante cuarenta días. Después de su

mentos, no le falta consuelo ni alimento. Je-

sús es guiado y llenado por el Espíritu San-

to. Nosotros también somos llamados al de-

sierto de Cuaresma. Durante cuarenta días

abrazamos el ayuno, la oración y la limosna

para vaciarnos y llenarnos de la abundancia

de Dios.

MINISTRY ASSIGNMENT

We have started the Season of Lent with the

celebration of Ash Wednesday. We received

ashes on our foreheads, reminding us of our

mortality and the need to have a penitent heart

and belief in the Gospel. Remember, all of us

that we are dust and unto dust we shall return.

Although our body turns to dust when we die,

our soul continues to live destine to be with God, our Father.

Our way to the Father is our Lord Jesus who said: I am the

Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except

through me” We are called to embrace him with faith, and live

a life of constant conversion and change through the Gospel.

Repent and believe in the Gospel is the formula that we usually

use as we put ashes on the foreheads. Lent is a time of renewal

we are called to renew our faith in our Lord Jesus who offered

his life for us that we may have salvation and redemption. It is

also during the time of the liturgical year that the catechumens

are being prepared to celebrate the paschal mystery as they

come closer to the celebration and reception of the sacraments

of Christian Initiation, Baptism, Confirmation and Holy

Communion. Likewise, the faithful, all of us, are enjoined to be

more attentive to the word of God and prayer, preparing us by

penance for the renewal of our baptismal promises. The Season

of Lent runs from Ash Wednesday until the Mass of the Lord’s

Supper exclusive of Holy Thursday. During this period, let us

open our hearts to the grace of this season, as we continue to

experience the love and mercy of God. That as we look forward

to the celebration of the Glorious resurrection of our Lord Jesus

Christ on Easter, we may be filled with hope for a continuing

growth in our relationship with God and with people as we do

the traditional practices of praying and fasting, abstinence and

almsgiving.

DID YOU KNOW? Trained adults can take steps to prevent suspicion The Protecting God’s Children program is in place to raise

awareness about behaviors of adults that may indicate a threat to the

safety of children and young people. Through this program, trained

adults learn how to prevent abuse from happening, in part by taking

steps to eliminate suspicious behaviors, such as being alone with a

young person. Creating a culture of openness and transparency goes

a long way towards alleviating concerns of inappropriate behavior

by adults, and helps children feel safe in their environment. For a full

Hemos comenzado la temporada de Cuaresma

con la celebración del Miércoles de Ceniza.

Recibimos cenizas en nuestras frentes,

recordándonos nuestra mortalidad y la

necesidad de tener un corazón penitente y una

creencia en el Evangelio. Recuérdenos, todos

nosotros que somos polvo y al polvo

regresaremos. Aunque nuestro cuerpo se convierte en polvo

cuando morimos, nuestra alma continúa viviendo destinada a

estar con Dios nuestro Padre. Nuestro camino hacia el Padre es

nuestro Señor Jesús que dijo: Yo soy el Camino, la Verdad y la

Vida. Nadie viene al Padre, sino a través de mí. Estamos

llamados a abrazarlo con fe y a vivir una vida de conversión y

cambio constantes a través del Evangelio. Arrepentirse y creer

en el Evangelio es la fórmula que usamos habitualmente

cuando colocamos cenizas en las frentes. La Cuaresma es un

tiempo de renovación, estamos llamados a renovar nuestra fe en

nuestro Señor Jesús, quien ofreció su vida por nosotros para

que podamos tener la salvación y la redención. También es

durante el año litúrgico que los catecúmenos se preparan para

celebrar el misterio pascual a medida que se acercan a la

celebración y recepción de los sacramentos de Iniciación

Cristiana, Bautismo, Confirmación y Sagrada Comunión. Del

mismo modo, todos los fieles estamos obligados a estar más

atentos a la palabra de Dios y a la oración, preparándonos por

penitencia para la renovación de nuestras promesas

bautismales. La temporada de Cuaresma va desde el Miércoles

de Ceniza hasta la Misa de la Cena del Señor, exclusiva del

Jueves Santo. Durante este período, abramos nuestros

corazones a la gracia de esta temporada, a medida que

continuamos experimentando el amor y la misericordia de Dios.
