Rebuilding the Lives of Homeless Men

One Precious Soul at a Time

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength…” -

Isaiah 40:31

Jesus, Friend of Sinners

A Message from our director:

A word from Betty: “This I recall to mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord’s loving kindnesses

indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every

morning; Great is Thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3 : 21 - 23

This is one of my favorite passages and God has made it is so true in my

life as well as many of the men who come in our doors at Calvary! Just the

other afternoon I was speaking to some of the men coming to check in. One

man was so excited when I asked had he had a good day. He was anxious to tell me how

job. Then he attended the Hershey’s job fair here at Calvary and gotten a job. It is such a

blessing to see how men downtrodden come here and not only get a safe place to sleep and

eat, but most of all have the opportunity to hear God’s Word proclaimed nightly in our

chapel. God’s lovingkindness truly changes lives and each of you are a vital part in this

work as you pray, encourage, and donate to make all this possible. Only in eternity will we

know what impact on lives you have made. With the need to have a larger chapel to seat

the increased number of men and all the volunteers, we would request you prayerfully

pray about how you can help financially . Please note on your check for “the chapel” if

this is where you want your donation to be used. We are in need of your continued

donations to cover all our expenses with the larger building and number of men we serve

daily. Thank you so very much from the depths of our hearts for all you have done!

My name is Larry Moore and I have lived

at Calvary for 8 years. Following the breakup of my marriage, I moved into one of my cousin’s house. When his house burned I had nowhere else to turn. I found myself living under a bridge on Crump, but I prayed to ask God where I could go. I was

led to Calvary Rescue Mission.

We have all heard of love at first sight, but the moment that I first saw Calvary, I knew that this was where I needed to be. The staff welcomed me and I soon realized that I had worked with Brother Bob years

before at a lead plant in Memphis. I love the Calvary lifestyle - focused on God’s Word. Once I got settled in I rededicated my life to Christ and entered the Discipleship program.

I worked at various jobs, but a doctor (arranged through Calvary) discovered that I had heart issues and put me on disability. Since I could no longer work, I prayed for God to

show me more ways to serve Him. I now represent Calvary at many of the Mission Conferences held at many of the local churches, and I serve as our photographer.

Being at Calvary Rescue Mission has helped me reconnect in many ways. I have reconnected with my twin daughters and I get to spend time with them and their children (7 girls, 2 boys). I get to work with a lot of Pastors and various churches. I love

our Bible Studies and the overall program. Where else can you attend a Chapel Service every single night of the year? I hope to stay at Calvary until Jesus kicks me out!

RECENT CLIENTS TESTIMONY

Antonio Perry is our youngest client at the present time. He is attending Southwest Tennessee Community College, and working part-time to pay

off his student loans. He is making good grades and recently made the basketball team for next season as a shooting guard. Staying at Calvary helps him apply more of his salary toward his loans.

Antonio is from Memphis and was raised by parents who adopted him and other children. The environment where he was raised was not a loving home, so he joined Job Corps to get out on his own. Since he could not get plugged into

a job in Memphis he left Job Corps and moved into a different homeless shelter. While there, others told him about Calvary and he moved from that

mission.

Antonio said that he loves being at Calvary because it is like family and the food is good. He said that being here has helped him draw closer to God and get more involved in church. His

church is very important to him and he really loves to sing, “Victory in Jesus”.

Dear Betty and all,

I almost didn’t come to the

52nd Anniversary dinner

on Tuesday, but when I did

make it, I was blessed from

the time I stepped out of

the car, until I stepped

back in. The food, the

fellowship, but most of all

the love of Jesus that was

there filled my heart.

May God continue to bless

you as you serve Him So

Mightily!

By Brad Gardner,

Board of Directors, CRM

Being fortunate enough to be one of the

newer board members at Calvary Rescue Mission, I must say my experiences here at Calvary have already been some of the most rewarding in my lifetime. Growing

up in a small Baptist church here in Memphis, I have vivid memories of our founder, Milton Hatcher who was a fellow member. My memories of Milton were that

he had a passionate stance regarding his faith and calling. It certainly left an enduring impression on a young boy that I’ve never forgotten. I can also remember

beginning back then an aching in my heart upon seeing the man on the street. For many years, I felt those feelings but never made a move to determine where

they should lead me. Those feelings have truly stayed with me to this day. Several years ago, a dear friend and myself heard a local leader speak who strongly

encouraged all hearing his message to get involved in God’s work. My friend answered the challenge almost immediately and his life seemed to take on

a new meaning. It was inspiring to behold. Former president and fellow board member Ed Scanlon encouraged me to come check things out at Calvary. I chose

to stick my feet a bit in the water, and the next thing I know I was on the board of directors. I have been blessed to get to know some of our men who call Calvary

home as well as many of the support staff. As they say around here, burdens are lifted at Calvary, and I can attest to the reliability of that statement. Thank you

all for support and prayers for Calvary!
