ANIMAL WORLD OF AUSTRALIA

• One of the symbols of Australia is kangaroo. There are at least 50 different types of kangaroos, which can be found only in Australia and New Zealand. Strong legs and fat tail help the animal to jump.

• Kangaroos are very fast in jumping. They eat leaves from the trees and grass. Females have only one baby at a time, which they keep in the bag on the body until it grows.

• Another symbolic animal is the koala. It looks like a little bear and can climb trees very good. Koalas eat leaves of eucalyptus only. They sleep almost all day long. Females have only one baby at a time and are very caring mothers.

• A duckbill is a unique animal, which lives only in Australia. It has a bill instead of a nose, swims very fast and lays eggs. Duckbills eat small fish, worms and other water living organisms. Females usually have two eggs and grow up two babies at a time.

• Echidna is a very interesting egg-laying animal of Australia. It looks like a hedgehog, has long pins and has no enemies among other animals. Echidna lays one egg at a time and carries the baby in a special bag. Echidna eats insects and fruit.

• Cockatoo is a famous Australian parrot. It is a big white bird with yellow feathers on the head. The parrots lay not more then two eggs and have two babies at a time. Cockatoo eats fruit and nuts.

• There are many other birds and a lot of kinds of parrots in Australia.

• Along the eastern coast of Australia there is the Great Barrier Reef, which extends for 2000 km and is built by the coral polyp.

• A lot of different kinds of coral fishes live in the Reef. Also you can find lots of starfishes, sponges, horse-fishes and other sea animals here.
