One Nation Under Godis a visceral, politically-charged play that attempts to hold a mirror up to an America divided by party, class & race. The entire play takes place on the evening of Barack Obama’s Presidential victory on November 4, 2008. Obama's campaign & subsequent win provokes a discussion on the ever-widening economic, social, & political chasm. The setting for this discussion is a black-owned barbershop in Crown Heights, Brooklyn; and a white-owned barbershop in Griffith Stone Mountain, Virginia (a fictional coal-mining town). The play is highly politicized and perhaps controversial, but contains enough humor and likeable characters to make its hard to swallow truths, palatable. “One Nation Under God” was written in 2007 by Davian Peat, a Jamaican born writer raised in Brooklyn. Peat co-produced the play with Artistic Director Shantell Cargle, a Michigan born actress and Director.
