ONE-DAY NATIONAL WORKSHOP On
Recent Advances in Manufacture of Aerospace and Automotive Components (RAMAAC 2017)
THE COLLEGE
PSG College of Technology, a premier institution for engineering education in India, started in 1951 has
developed into a centre for advanced studies and research in several areas of engineering, technology, applied
sciences and management. The college is autonomous since 1978 and is ISO certified. The laboratories,
workshops and library of the college are all well equipped with modern facilities suitable for learning and
research.
PRODUCTION ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
As manufacturing activities play a major role in the development of the country, PSG College of Technology
envisaged the need for trained manpower in manufacturing and thus the undergraduate programme in
Production Engineering was started in the year 1975. Subsequently, department grew in several dimensions
of academic excellence with time. Department offers three PG programmes in the area of Manufacturing,
Product Design and Digital Manufacturing. All the laboratories of the department are approved for carrying
out research, leading to Ph.D Degree (full time and part time) by Anna University, Chennai. The department
offers consultancy in manufacturing processes, design and testing a range of products.
SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
The workshop aims at highlighting the latest advances in manufacturing techniques. The workshop will
include lectures and demonstrations on the state of art manufacturing techniques including Additive and
Subtractive Manufacturing, Machining and Metal Forming. The applications of manufacturing techniques
mainly include aircraft structures, automotive components, biomedical implants and infrastructure industry.
The workshop will include lectures from leading experts and technology demonstrations.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Lightweight, high-strength, high stiffness and low-cost materials have been identified as a key cross-cutting
technology for overall development of manufacturing industries especially in the field of aerospace, automotive and
defense sectors. Improvements and innovation in manufacturing and assembly techniques for advanced materials are
needed to meet cost and stringent performance targets to enable wider adoption across multiple industries.
Addressing these technical challenges may enable Indian manufacturers and researchers to capture a larger market
share of the world and could support domestic manufacturing demands. Improving the manufacturing speed, quality
and reducing their manufacturing costs-could accelerate their use in aerospace, automotive and other industrial
applications. The workshop will foster an exchange of information on technical issues and challenges faced in
manufacturing related to achieving high quality products and impacting academic researchers experience and Indian
manufacturing competitiveness in various fields with main emphasis on aerospace and automobile industries. The
workshop includes presentations by eminent personalities who have rich experience in the fields of manufacturing
and shall facilitate breakout sessions to gather input from participants. The workshop is being organized to inform
the current developments in the field related to the manufacture of aerospace and automotive components with an
expectation to motivate the students, faculty members and professionals to pursue a career in manufacturing
research.
